Storefront for Somatic Practice Reviews
As a student in Landscape Architecture at the Graduate School of Design, I got to take Drawing, Movement, and the Built Environment with the artists' collective ARE (Aesthetic Relational Exercises) one JTerm at the Carpenter Center. The class was deeply engaging and measured, with lots of joyful exploration of the body in space through its movements and senses. Helen, Chris, and Josh teach with a curiosity, working alongside their students to learn through play. I have found both the practicing and drawing of the Feldenkrais Method lessons to be clarifying. The hybrid practice of moving and drawing refined numerous ways to observe the body. I'm grateful for my introduction to the practice through ARE and look forward very much to the types of exploration that will be generated through the Storefront for Somatic Practice. I admire the committed and even hands that gave rise to it.
