Ashtanga Yoga School of Raleigh Introduce
Introduction / Overview
For North Carolina residents seeking an authentic, deep, and transformative yoga practice, the Ashtanga Yoga School of Raleigh (AYSR) stands out as a dedicated sanctuary. Located conveniently in Cary, this studio is a vital hub for the traditional and rigorous practice of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga in the Triangle area. Unlike many commercial yoga facilities that offer a broad mix of trendy classes, AYSR focuses on the systematic and profound method taught in the lineage of Sri K. Pattabhi Jois.
The philosophy here is centered on the idea that practice, combined with dedication and expert guidance, leads to profound self-realization and well-being. It’s an environment built for students who are serious about forging a consistent and disciplined practice. Local users often praise the knowledgeable, attentive teachers, such as the highly experienced Stacy, who are truly dedicated to helping individuals grow at their own pace. The studio caters to all levels—from those who are complete beginners without any yoga experience to advanced practitioners seeking to deepen their understanding of the practice's more advanced series and philosophical limbs.
AYSR fosters a supportive community where students feel comfortable to grow. As one local practitioner noted, joining the studio can "completely reignite" a yoga practice, offering the opportunity to advance with "fresh curiosity and joy." It is a place where personal commitment meets invaluable, hands-on instruction.

Services Offered
The service structure at the Ashtanga Yoga School of Raleigh reflects its commitment to the traditional method, focusing on depth of practice and individualized instruction within a group setting.
- Traditional Ashtanga Mysore Program: This is the studio's cornerstone offering. It is a self-paced practice where students memorize the sequence and practice at their own rhythm. Teachers provide crucial one-on-one guidance, adjustments, and new postures incrementally, functioning much like private instruction within a supportive group environment.
- Led Classes (Primary Series, Half Primary, etc.): Structured classes where the instructor guides the students through the sequence in unison, using the traditional Sanskrit count (Vinyasa count). These classes are essential for deepening understanding of the breathing (Ujjayi) and movement synchronization (Vinyasa).
- Private Lessons: Dedicated one-on-one instruction for clients who wish to address specific physical or alignment concerns, or those who prefer a highly customized approach to ease into the Ashtanga practice before joining a group setting.
- Vinyasa Yoga: While Ashtanga is its primary focus (being a vinyasa system), the studio may also offer classes or workshops that explore the principles of Vinyasa flow, breath, and movement connection in a broader context.
- Introductory Courses and Workshops: Specialized, multi-week courses designed to teach beginners the fundamental techniques of Ashtanga, including the breathing (Ujjayi), internal locks (Bandhas), and meditative gazing (Drishti), preparing them confidently for the Mysore room.
- Yogic Philosophy, Chanting, and Meditation Offerings: To honor all eight limbs of Ashtanga, the school provides opportunities for students to dive deeper into the practice through studies of sacred texts, meditation sessions, and chanting.
Features / Highlights

This deep-rooted knowledge ensures that the guidance provided is attentive, factually correct, and truly helpful for physical and mental advancement.
- Emphasis on Personal Attention: The Mysore format inherently ensures personal attention, which customers highlight as "crucial." Ashtanga Yoga School of Raleigh Reviews
Feeling Like a Student Again and Loving It!Joining this studio has completely reignited my practice. The teachers are knowledgeable, attentive, and truly dedicated to helping students grow. I feel like a beginner again in the best possible way, advancing with fresh curiosity and joy. Every practice challenges me, teaches me something new, and inspires me to keep showing up. I am beyond grateful for the opportunity to learn, progress, and fall in love with the process all over again.
August 12 · Blaze GordenIt's not easy to review a yoga studio (or anything, for that matter), so many inputs. For Yoga, personal attention is pretty crucial in my opinion. Stacy gives you all you need and more. Could the room be prettier? sure, if that's what you're focused on. If you go in with an open mind, willing to accept that Mysore Ashtanga is not a series of poses done in unison by all, you'll find great value in running your own routine with guidance.
June 12 · Reid Manchester (Reid)Ashtanga Yoga School of Raleigh has deepened my practice in ways I never imagined.Stacey is an absolute gem of knowledge, compassion, and humor. She creates an atmosphere of trust - where a practitioner can come to learn without fear of making mistakes, asking a "stupid question", or feel afraid of the often bad reputation that Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga often carries with it in being too rigid, dangerous or fundamental.Instead, she teaches to trust our own inert Guru within, the focus on breath above all else and allow yourself to enjoy your practice in whatever capacity you can give.Stacey, thank you for all you do
October 18 · Derek TeixeiraThis school was everything I looking for and so much more. I struggled for years with the mainstream yoga culture and because of it was always reluctant to associate myself with yoga in any way. However, I knew there had to be more to yoga than I what I was experiencing. Then I found AYS, unknowingly, at the beginning of a time when I was to most need it. I found that they are not only a warm, safe, beautiful community and they showed me what yoga truly is. It has, and continues to shape me. If you are serious about your practice, are craving the depths that come with it, and are ready to take that road, then this is the place for you. I am so grateful for them and will always recommend this shala!
December 27 · Imari ColónI had the privilege of learning from an incredible Ashtanga teacher Stacy. The overall environment creates a welcoming environment for all levels. Classes are offered both online and in-person making it accessible wherever you are. I highly recommend studying with AYS Raleigh if your looking to embark on a transformative journey. A genuine 5 star experience.
