Squatbox Gym Introduce
Introduction / Overview
For fitness enthusiasts across the Westside of Los Angeles, finding a gym that moves beyond general access to offer genuinely individualized and expert-led strength training is key to achieving serious, lasting results. Squatbox Gym, located in Santa Monica, is a specialized facility that operates on the philosophy that physical strength is the cornerstone of a long, healthy, and independent life. Unlike high-volume, general-purpose gyms, Squatbox is a dedicated personal training and weightlifting area where every workout is a structured, coached session.
The gym's core focus is on the SquatBox Method—a proven weight training program developed by owners and master trainers Rudy Mettia and Jennifer Ellis, who bring over 40 years of combined experience to their clients. This method emphasizes technique, safety, and efficiency while focusing on the major barbell lifts. They cater to a broad clientele, including experienced athletes, individuals returning from injury, and absolute beginners seeking to establish a foundation of strength.
The highly personalized nature of the training is consistently highlighted in customer reviews, which speak to the coaches' 'incredibly knowledgeable' expertise, warmth, and intuition. Members often share that they 'actually look forward to working out' because the training is meticulously designed for their body and current level. This boutique approach ensures that clients are not just lifting weights, but actively gaining skills, confidence, and a deep understanding of strength training principles, ultimately helping them feel stronger, move better, and feel uplifted after every session. It is a unique health and fitness paradigm that truly sets Squatbox Gym apart in the competitive Southern California fitness landscape.

What is worth choosing
For Californians in the highly competitive West Los Angeles fitness market, Squatbox Gym is worth choosing because it provides an antidote to the large, impersonal gym environment. It’s a solution for anyone serious about making fundamental, lasting changes to their strength, mobility, and overall quality of life, whether they are a seasoned athlete or an individual who has been hesitant to try weight training due to past injuries or lack of knowledge.
The primary reason to choose Squatbox is the unparalleled quality of its personal coaching. You are not just buying time on a machine; you are investing in the decades of specialized knowledge possessed by Rudy Mettia and Jennifer Ellis. Their ability to deliver personalized programs that focus on technique and safely adapt to physical issues, as evidenced by the three-year client training success despite a back issue, provides confidence and peace of mind that is rare in the fitness industry. ★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Rudy and Jenny are the heart and soul of the place. They're incredibly knowledgeable, but it’s their warmth, intuition, and encouragement that really set them apart. Every workout feels personal—like it’s designed just for you, your body, and where you’re at.I actually look forward to working out. I feel stronger, I move better, and I just feel better overall.. I always leave feeling happy, energized , and uplifted.
June 22 · Gwen NeidlingerRudy and Jenn are awesome! They are very knowledgeable and have been creative in working around my back issue which has enabled me to continue to train with them for the past three years. I highly recommend Squatbox.
September 01 · Shelly DePalmaI've been lifting with Jen and Rudy once a week for the last three months and I've never felt better. My swimming has improved, my hiking and stamina has improved. They're really know what they're doing - best weight training I've ever had!!
August 16 · Michelle MercierSimply the BEST. Personalized, highly custom weightlifting program with the absolute best customer service. Rudy and Jenn have extensive knowledge and really care. Incredible results. Can’t recommend them enough.
June 29 · Lindsay CosgroveThere aren't enough good things that I can say about Squatbox Gym, but let me try by sharing my story.9 months ago, I walked through the door not knowing my way around weights. In fact, up until then, I'd done a lot of work to simply avoid them altogether. I was clueless and intimidated, to say the least, but I wanted to learn how I could grow stronger and become better. 🙂SQUATBOX IS EXACTLY WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR! I LOVE IT! ❤The gym is just big enough to feel spacious, while also feeling warm and inviting, rather than overwhelming. Training with Rudy and Jenny is simply the best. They work with you one-on-one to create a strength training program that is tailored to your specific goals. They take things at your pace and comfort level, and give you the individualized attention and focus needed to build up your confidence. 🤩For someone like me, who always felt discouraged or embarrassed to try and learn new things at the gym around other people, but also needed someone to help support and teach me, SquatBox is heaven sent - and Rudy and Jenny are the angels guiding you through literally each movement and breath you take. It's almost as if their strength training approach taught me how to be better attuned with not only my body, but my mind and spirit, too. 🤗When you're there, you get the gym all to yourself, which makes me feel a lot less awkward and way more at ease compared to times I've been in other gyms, and it gives me a special kind of laser focus that allows me to commit and give my all to my workout. Every day I go in there, I feel like I walk out better than I came in, even though I'm exhausted! 😅To add onto that, I can honestly say, I simply have fun there, knowing that I'm challenging and improving myself and having a good time along the way. Rudy and Jenny have become dear friends, and they really are the magic/secret sauce behind why SBG is so special. Plainly put, they know their sh*t and they're bad@$$ to boot. 💪🏼I started off going twice a week and not long after, I bumped up the frequency of my training sessions to 3 x a week. I joke that if I could afford it, I'd be there every day. They're stuck with me and now, they can't get rid of me! 🤣 I guess you can say I'm officially hooked, and it really didn't take long at all for that to happen.Everything about Squatbox is just incredible. Everyone should definitely experience it for themselves.
