Whether you are in your thirties or your eighties, you will find a group of people who are banding together to help each other physically, mentally, and emotionally. The dedicated coaches are trained to work with the specific needs of individuals with Parkinson’s, ensuring that every exercise is safe and effective. ★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1There are so many great things about Rock Steady Boxing as an organization, the Channahon location and Maria specifically. PD is not an old man's disease. This group ranges from people in their thirties on up to their eighties, that band together to help each other physically, mentally and emotionally. This has helped my mom improve her balance, coordination and strength. At first she was reluctant about going to "boxing" because of arm injuries and now she is a killer at it. Maria keeps each persons' own issues in mind to keep them exercising safely. She is a great motivator with a smile all the time.
January 17 · Jill StapayHaving been a volunteer at RSB Channahon for 4 years I have seen first hand the benefits of this program, physically, mentally and emotionally. Maria is a compassionate coach and leader of this group. She tailors to individual needs. She motivates participants to reach for higher goals, even when they feel it’s not possible. Usually in 2-3 months of a new participant starting I will see great improvement in balance, coordination and strength. Last, but not least of all, this group is like family. They support each others in ways that only other individuals with Parkinson’s Disease and their family members can understand. It is always a judgment free zone in which everyone feels accepted in a wide range of ages and abilities. As a volunteer I have learned so much from those facing a chronic disease with no cure.
January 15 · Cynthia DayIf you’re hesitant just try it! Rock Steady Channahon is made up of an incredibly strong group of fighters and lead by Maria, who is patient, motivating, and caring. This unique program has helped my dad greatly improve his quality of life and gain back the ability to do simple tasks again.
