★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I joined Onelife Old Town almost two years ago. Prior to Covid, I’d been a “gym rat” most of my adult life and was just looking to get close to my former level of fitness after three years of basic workouts at home. I have well surpassed that level and, in my 70s, am in the best shape ever. A major factor is a great trainer. The other is state-of-the-art equipment that allows me to add incrementally more weight while making it virtually impossible—with proper instruction—to injure myself. I love this place.
June 01 · Nannette CroceI’ve belonged to many gyms and OneLifeFitness is among my favorites. Especially the Old Town, Alexandria, location. The staff is always friendly and helpful (Lannia is a great manager)! I mean always… equipment is great. The locker rooms and bathrooms are tidy and clean. Classes are good but do wish for more spinning clssses at different times.
August 09 · Catherine MadduxEver since that I had moved back to the area a few weeks ago, I have been coming to this gym. It's quite expansive with three levels of space for people to workout. My best guess is that the have around 30 treadmills, and an great number of other cardio type equipment. The location is ideal for me, and I also like the hours that they are open. I work really hard to get here every other day at right around 5:30am. I think weekends they open slightly later. For me it's always best to get the workout completed first thing in the morning, because later on in the day or after work, there wouldn't be a chance for me to workout. My workout always starts out with a 20 minute run followed by a small break. After that I head on over to the incline bench to do 4 sets of 14 presses. Then I spend some time working the biceps, and shoulders. Finally I will always pass time with their abdominal machine. My whole routine lasts for less than one hour, and it's enough for me at this stage. I would definitely recommend this gym to anyone!
September 07 · Stephanie JordanJust joined three weeks ago. So far nothing to complain about. The gym is much bigger in person with pretty much everything you could need. Free weights, olympic bars, bumper plates, Smith bars, dumbells up to over 100lbs. All kinds of accessories, plenty of machines, tons of cardio equipment, trx straps, ropes you name it. I have not done any classes because that is not my thing. But all in all a solid gym. Also the staff seems helpful without being overbearing.
April 14 · Dave PetteyUnder a multi-club membership, I’ve exercised at OneLife Old Town for the past three years. The gym itself is well-provisioned, with ample space and equipment. It is well-maintained, consistently clean, and offers a full range of resistance stations, along with the traditional range of free weights. The location has a diverse group of trainers, and membership matches that diversity. Given its location in Old Town Alexandria (Virginia), the membership might skew slightly to an over-50-year-old cohort, to which I include myself.A recent feature that I've found very useful is the Recovery Room, featuring Red Light Therapy, HydroMassage, Percussion, and Compression Therapy. What I find most useful at this location is the number of group exercise classes offered there. Most of these classes are held in one of two large gymnasiums, and classes are offered throughout the day – starting early (at 6 a.m.) and ending late, typically lasting an hour each. I’ve regularly attended Pilates, barre, and OneLife’s high intensity interval training called APEX.Also available are classes in yoga, breath, and meditation, kickboxing, Zumba, Tai Chi, Decade Dance Express, and proprietary training, including LesMills Body Pump and Body Combat, SoulBody Barre, and Cycle Express 30. On any given week I’ve counted more than 60 group classes, all held in one of the two large rooms. My only concern – and it’s not really a complaint – is that recently classes in Tai Chi have been scheduled to end with only five minutes between those classes and the long-standing APEX and Body Pump classes. This becomes a problem when the Tai Chi instructor continues her class beyond the scheduled ending, cutting into time for the two noon-time classes that follow Tai Chi. Perhaps this is the price we must pay for having lots of choices in classes; but some thought might be given to ensuring sufficient time is scheduled between classes. That’s currently not the case on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
