However, it is important to be aware of the business practices and customer service experiences some members have faced. Reviews from customers mention issues with unexpected membership changes and a lack of clear communication from the staff regarding these transitions. One review from a long-time member highlighted a particularly poor customer service experience when trying to adjust their membership, noting a lack of flexibility and transparency. Another customer shared a similar story, expressing frustration over a base membership being switched without notice and the staff's inability to provide a smooth transition. These points are important to consider, as they can impact the overall experience of being a member. While the physical facilities are highly praised for being great and well-maintained, the administrative and customer service aspects appear to have room for improvement. It is advisable for prospective members to inquire about all membership terms and potential changes upfront to avoid any surprises. Ultimately, if you prioritize a gym with excellent equipment for serious training and are prepared to navigate any potential customer service hurdles, Catalyst Fitness - Maple offers the facilities to help you achieve your goals.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I've been a member of Catalyst for several years. The gym is generally clean and equipment updated, but the men's bathroom is constantly in need of cleaning. The subject of this review is the very poor customer service experience. My keycard was denied, and then Darnell at the front desk started into a speech about how I'm paying $26.99 for multi-use locations and how I needed to upgrade to $29.99 or drop down to one-location for $19.99. I said, fine, downgrade me to this Maple Rd location. He said, "that doesn't apply to this location." Then he preceded to tell me that my link to the Visa card will now incur an additional $3/MONTH fee. I asked him about whether I was currently paying that and we went round and round over the definition of "current." Finally I agreed, but didn't have my bank info to avoid the $3/month fee. I asked if I could still work out and he said "no, you cannot work out without signing a new contract." Since I was concerned about 6 pages of fine print and possible penalty clauses I left. Unbelievable....
July 27 · Michael jFacilities are great. Equipment gets fixed quickly and is well maintained. My issue is this location recently switched so that its base membership level is no longer allowed at this location, and as far as I can tell there was no notice this was happening until it happened.I walked in on a Wednesday and my key tag no longer worked and the girl at the desk didn’t notice me slip in. On Thursday a guy working the desk stopped me and informed me of the change. He said when I was done working out I could let them know what i wanted to do. When I made it back that kid was gone and another one stood there and said “oh we can’t switch that here.” So obviously they did a bang up job training the staff on this change. So my choices were upgrade my membership or go to another location and sign up there, zero assistance with the transition they didn’t tell anyone was coming.
June 12 · Joseph RadeckiI have never written an online review- I have never felt the need to until now. I have been with Catalyst since Colvin was women-only, and then I transitioned to Maple once Colvin was under renovation.I was frustrated at how long the renovations took, but I stayed loyal to Catalyst. I loved the equipment and amenities. As a college student, I was also happy to pay a "freeze plan" in which I only paid $5 a month to keep my membership active while I was away at school. I looked forward to going to Catalyst during my winter and summer breaks from school, knowing I was paying a fair price and getting great perks. This plan no longer exists (which was not clearly communicated to me until I called for clarification). As I am now moving to my college town full-time, I decided to cancel my membership.Attempting to cancel my membership has been an exhausting process. I never complain, but I have had to hunt people down, call several times, and be told "the back office is still processing this" far too often. I looked at my bank account, and to my dismay, realized that I was still being charged the new increased membership fee.I was even asked to send proof of my move, which I did. I got no response after that, and then, after I called for clarification, I was told to email my proof of move to yet another person. I am lucky I called and clarified, or else who knows if my information would have ever been processed. Members (especially of several years) should not have to hunt people down to make sure their membership can be processed and cancelled. It's that simple. My mom and I called, to which the representative said the documents still needed to be processed through the “cancellation department.” It turns out, she herself is the cancellation department. Lots of smoke and mirrors.I love Buffalo. I love people. And I love moving my body. I hope Catalyst can get back to these simple roots rather than recklessly pursuing profit over people. I miss the intimate and compassionate feel of this gym.I hope these sentiments can be a Catalyst for change! While this business model may work for some, it simply isn’t conducive to a student’s lifestyle, especially those who go away to school. I feel that Catalyst should offer more for students.I wish Catalyst all the best, and maybe there would be a day I return. But a lot would have to change between now and then.
June 12 · Katie SquiresI love it here! You can’t beat all the amenities for the monthly price. If you’re looking for easy access to all the equipment you want to use, I would recommend going during off peak times. But even if you don’t, the people here are friendly and will be courteous if they know you’re waiting.
May 21 · Lucia MolitorGreat equipment options and love the cardio theater. It’s very popular so be mindful of the time of day you go if you use a lot of machines at the gym. Otherwise, plenty of space in most areas. Only thing about this location is that there’s tons of younger people. Kudos to them but could make someone older (like me) feel out of place. But definitely worth visiting.
