Beauchamp Recreation & Wellness Center Introduce
The Beauchamp Recreation & Wellness Center, often referred to simply as "The Beau," is a premier fitness and recreational hub located in the heart of North Portland, Oregon. More than just a gym, this expansive, state-of-the-art facility is designed to support a holistic approach to health, encompassing physical activity, social gathering, and overall well-being.
Having opened its doors in 2015, The Beauchamp Center is a relatively modern and dynamic space, recognized for its award-winning design and commitment to sustainability (it is LEED Gold Certified). Its transparent design, featuring extensive glazing, creates an airy, welcoming environment that connects the indoors with the surrounding campus, making it a bright and inviting space for members across the Oregon region to pursue their fitness goals. While it is the central hub for fitness and recreation at the University of Portland, its quality and comprehensive offerings position it as a top-tier recreation center in the broader Portland area, welcoming those who meet its membership requirements to join the community.
This modern facility replaces the older recreational amenities on campus, bringing an elevated, fitness club-level experience to its users. It stands as a testament to the belief that physical and mental health are essential components of a complete life, providing a wide array of equipment and dedicated spaces to cater to nearly every type of workout and recreational interest. From intense weight training and cardio to group fitness and adventurous pursuits like indoor rock climbing, the Beauchamp Center offers an environment where everyone can find a way to stay active and engaged.
A commitment to inclusivity is also a core part of the center’s ethos, with amenities and an atmosphere that welcome all members of the community, including those who identify as LGBTQ+ and providing a Transgender safespace. This focus on a welcoming, whole-person approach to health is a significant reason why many local Oregon residents seek out and value the experience offered at the Beauchamp Recreation & Wellness Center. The large scale of the center—approximately 72,000 to 73,000 square feet—allows it to accommodate a diverse program of activities and equipment, ensuring that even during peak times, there is ample space for a productive and enjoyable workout, though some areas may experience greater crowds in the evenings, as noted by users.
In summary, The Beauchamp Recreation & Wellness Center is a leading facility in Portland, dedicated to providing a high-quality, engaging, and comprehensive range of services and amenities that support the physical, mental, and social health of its community.

For Oregon locals, particularly those who are part of or can obtain membership through the University of Portland community (students, faculty, staff, and Holy Cross members), this facility offers an unparalleled value proposition.
The primary appeal lies in the center's sheer quality and diversity of offerings. It is not merely a weight room but a 72,000+ square foot destination for complete wellness. The existence of a spectacular rock-climbing wall and a suspended indoor track offers unique, adventurous, and weather-proof workout options that are hard to find in a single facility. The three dedicated fitness studios and the comprehensive schedule of group classes—ranging from Aerobics to Kickboxing—ensure that motivation remains high and the workout routine never becomes stale.

Beauchamp Recreation & Wellness Center Reviews
The gym is great and all, but I miss having a pool on campus. Trying to get all the way to the park and then pay to use the public pool is a hassle when I remember that I used to be able to just walk to Howard Hall to swim. I get that Howard Hall had to go. I also understand that it may have appeared as though few people used the pool at Howard Hall so it would have been wasteful to build one with the new rec center. However, the one in Howard was pretty small, over chlorinated, and required walking past the weight lifters on the way between the locker room and the pool - a new one with fewer issues would have been used in a regular basis.
August 11 · Kathryn PhamSpent a lot of time here working out. Love the equipment and the people. Definitely room for improvement. I hope in the future the weight room area will be bigger with more equipment. It definitely got crowded in the evenings.
May 26 · M BrownGreat place to work out. They have an a lot of cardio equipment as well as individual strength training machines and free weights. There is also an indoor running track that has 2 different lap lengths. They have 3 dance studios with wall to ceiling glass mirrors. They also have a place where you can get your bike repaired. I believe that this is exclusively for the University of Portland students and I visited it (did not actually use it) when my daughter and I were touring their campus.
April 22 · Ranjit RozarioTowels aren't always rotated and wish there was a steam room or something but I guess my tuition isn't enough to pay for that. Lol great place though
September 27 · Mitchell McCauleyDoesn’t allow visitors/guests due to Covid. Cool looking building tho
