Xtreme Fitness of Westchester Introduce
For New Yorkers who are serious about their fitness and value substance over style, Xtreme Fitness of Westchester in Mount Vernon offers a refreshingly straightforward approach to working out. This isn't a trendy, high-end boutique gym; it's a place where the focus is strictly on getting the work done. Spanning three floors and packed with a huge variety of equipment, Xtreme Fitness is a throwback to the classic gyms of the 80s, providing a no-nonsense environment that's all about lifting, sweating, and achieving your goals. Its reputation is built on its unbelievably low prices and the sheer volume of equipment available, making it an ideal spot for those who want maximum value for their money without the added frills.
The gym has a distinct, old-school feel that many members find appealing. Unlike the modern, sleek fitness centers that can often feel crowded and impersonal, Xtreme Fitness provides a raw, authentic space. You will find a mixture of older, well-used equipment that, while not new, gets the job done. This vast array of machinery and free weights ensures that even during peak times, you're more likely to find the equipment you need without a long wait. This is a significant advantage over many other local gyms that are frequently overcrowded. The gym’s atmosphere is a melting pot of the Mount Vernon community, attracting people of all races, genders, body types, and fitness levels, creating a genuine and diverse environment where everyone feels comfortable.
While the aesthetic might be a nod to the past, the gym’s commitment to providing a comprehensive workout experience is firmly in the present. It offers a broad range of services that cater to different fitness interests and goals. From group classes like Zumba and Aerobics to specialized training in Boxing and Martial Arts, there is something for everyone, whether you prefer to work out on your own or with a group. The availability of personal training and nutrition consulting means that even in this budget-friendly setting, you can still get the expert guidance you need to create a structured and effective fitness plan. For younger members, the youth classes provide a safe and engaging way to introduce a healthy lifestyle from an early age.
One of the most appealing aspects of Xtreme Fitness is its incredible affordability. The gym offers a variety of membership options and day rates that are exceptionally low compared to the industry standard in the New York metropolitan area. This makes high-quality fitness accessible to a wider audience, breaking down financial barriers that can often prevent people from prioritizing their health. The gym's commitment to affordability is also evident in its active military discounts, a small way of giving back to those who serve. This dedication to providing value and being a community-oriented business is what builds a loyal and appreciative member base.
The gym's three-floor layout is another standout feature, providing ample space for different workout zones. This separation helps to manage crowds and allows members to find their rhythm, whether they're focused on cardio, strength training, or a group class. The presence of a sauna adds a valuable amenity for post-workout recovery, helping members soothe their muscles and relax after a tough session. While the reviews mention some issues with the age and maintenance of the equipment and facilities, the sheer amount of gear and the incredibly low cost are seen by many as a worthwhile trade-off. This gym isn't for those who expect a pristine, high-tech experience, but for those who value practicality and a supportive community above all else.
The sense of community is a major highlight. Members describe the gym as a place with a great atmosphere, where people are respectful and friendly. It's a space where you can focus on your workout without feeling judged, a sentiment echoed by the diverse crowd it attracts. From seasoned bodybuilders to beginners just starting their fitness journey, everyone coexists and works towards their own goals. This camaraderie and down-to-earth vibe are hard to find in larger, more commercial chains. It’s a gym where people say hello and offer a spot, creating a genuine and encouraging environment that makes it easier to stay motivated and consistent with your routine.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1OK first things first- it is an older gym with older equipments and weights BUT it has 3 floors of old equipment. Once you get familiar you will find the pieces that work. It has a Donkey Press. I've only seen that once in 30yrs. Arrived btw 12-3 a couple of days and NOT CROWDED!! A certain gym who has location in scarsdale and Pelham, always packed. Only gonna spend a month here while family is in town but starting to grow on me. There is parking but 25 cents/15mins. Looks like there's a parking lot across the street. A couple of restaurants across street and a barbershop i will peek in soon. This is how gyms looked in the 80s so it doesn't really bother me. My college weight room looked like this until my senior year. $15/day, $40/month which i believe is going rate for most gym. Internet is spotty but it seems the whole area is like that. No need for music because they play a variety. Mixture of all races, gender, sexes, body types and fitness levels
June 11 · Brien LingXtreme Fitness is DIRT-CHEAP, with prices so low it’s almost unbelievable, and it boasts a ton of equipment across its three floors! But make no mistake: this place is an absolute DISASTER ZONE. The cleanliness is UTTERLY DEPLORABLE --think grime-caked, SMELLY TOILETS AND neglected junkyard vibes. The entire building feels like it’s teetering on the edge of collapse, with a roof that looks like it’s about to cave in any second. It’s a miracle it’s still standing.Grab a weight plate or dumbbell, and your hands are instantly coated in vile, greasy grime--like you’ve been wrenching on a car engine. It’s not just gross; it’s a hygiene nightmare. EVERY SINGLE MACHINE in this sprawling three-floor gym is falling apart and desperately needs repair. The upholstery on the pads is a total catastrophe--shredded, torn, and disintegrating, with some machines barely usable. The equipment is ancient, creaking, and visibly deteriorating. Sure, it might still “work” for now, but every day, more machines break, and management? They’re doing ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to fix them. No repairs, no care, no hope. The squat rack on the third floor is a particularly terrifying example of the neglect. It’s MISSING ITS SAFETY PINS, making it a serious injury waiting to happen, and the frame itself is CRACKED, wobbling dangerously under any weight. It’s a lawsuit in the making, yet management ignores it like everything else.Free parking in a URINE-SOAKED, HOMELESS ENCAMPMENT-FILLED GARAGE, free Wi-Fi that CONSTANTLY DROPS AND BARELY WORKS, and free water are supposed "perks"--but they’re barely enough to keep this dumpster fire of a gym afloat. In short, you get what you pay for: a bargain-basement gym that’s crumbling faster than you can say “hazard.” Bring your own sanitizer, a hard hat, and maybe a prayer.
May 11 · Derrick HobbsXtreme Members ,We know Xtreme's a great deal, but let's be real – some of the equipment has seen better days. To keep everyone safe and injury-free, a quick check before your workout goes a long way. Here's what to look for:Cables: Always check for fraying or damage. If a cable looks worn, don't use the machine.Leg Presses: This is crucial. Make sure the leg press is fully locked and secure before you get on. Double-check those safety stops and the release handle.Dumbbells: Give them a quick wiggle to ensure the heads aren't loose before curling or pressing.Weight Stack Pins: Make sure the pin fits and is fully inserted into the weight stack. A half-in pin can make the weight unstable and collapse during your set.Treadmills: If the treadmill’s belt is slipping or feels off when running, immediately stop the machine and step off to prevent falls and injury. Additionally, if the set speed if fluctuating up or down, also stop running and exit machine. Lastly, please check to make sure the treadmill belt is not running when first stepping on in the event a member forgets to turn off treadmill when exiting. At the end of the day, if you spot something off or unsafe? Tell a staff member immediately.
June 09 · DNSo I joined this gym almost two months ago and this is what I think about this gym. It is very large (3 floors), free parking, Large selection of machines, long hours of operations and they open on holidays (even if they close early for the day). The only two drawbacks from the gym is that the parking lot is unconviniently located down the street and you also have to go up 4 flights through a filthy staircase thats is often filled with urine and garbage. Also the bathrooms are not always clean. Other than that, I would still recommend the gym. Much better than Blink and Planet Fitness
February 19 · GGo elsewhere. Customer Service is nonexistent. I was shopping around visiting several gyms and looking for a trainer and this was the worst experience of the ones I visited. They have to do better. Front desk person not friendly or welcoming. Could not get anyone to give a tour or even schedule one for a later date. No way to get trainer information so you could select a person of choice. They could not tell me much and when I wanted to speak to the owner to get more information I was shut down for that as an option. Left feeling discouraged. Very disappointing. A little customer service goes a long way. I mean I am spending my money but I guess that doesn’t matter to this establishment.
