October 04 · Earl HudsonGreat organization! My pops took me to the gym for the first time as a kid when it was upstairs on Leonard. He boxed when he was younger and its always been a deeply personal and positive source of motivation in my life. I always felt welcome to stop in and make an appearance over the years and check up on things. Since pops passed, I have often wondered if anyone remembers him from his fighting days, or at all. He preached the gospel of the sweet science to me from birth. He did that because he knew from his own experience all the invaluable lessons and critical life skills a young person can attain just by challenging themselves in the gym every day. I'll always be grateful to him for giving me that gift of focus, and do my best to give the same tools to my son and anyone else who wants it. Its what my dad would want of me. I guess its in our blood for good now.
June 12 · Neil ChavezA lot of fun to watch. The coaches help youth learn good sportsmanship and skills to be excellent boxers. Keep youth out of trouble and strive for success. 2019 was my first championship to watch. Will continue to watch every year. Who knows maybe I will fight some day. Way to go "Wyoming Pride".
April 14 · Dessaray RoseI wouldn't give Dave Packer, president of Michigan golden gloves, any stars. This is a guy and his wife Lois, who robbed/robbing their own son (Kevin) of a normal life, yet Dave claims, in another press article, to having saved over 10,000 youths. Kevin, about 40yrs old, who still lives at home (MGGA address) has never had a job of any length, never had a girlfriend and of course never been married. It's really sad for me to see this year after year (22 years). Don't believe me, ask Dave or Lois about Kevin. Just remember, Dave Packer is a compulsive liar on top of being a severe hothead.I wouldn't believe Dave Packer if he told me the sun was shining on a sunny day. The guy is one of the biggest liars I had the misfortune of knowing. And his temper is one of the worst I've seen in my life (61 years). Like any con man, Dave does what he has to do to maintain the cushy life he has enjoyed the last 22 years I have known him. Just look how much MGGA has grown in the last 30 years. Virtually ZERO growth. Mayweather donated $140,000 to MGGA and there has never been an accounting of that money? About the same time, Dave, Lois, Kevin all got brand new vehicles(3). Of course when your wife is treasury secretary of MGGA, it's like two foxes guarding the hen house. And how does Dave Packer respect his neighbors, he doesn't. Just to give an example, this guy use to put his trash out Sunday morning for a Monday afternoon pickup. He was notified of the smell but doesn't give a hoot about anybody not connected to boxing. He almost killed one of my dogs, both black, while barreling into my driveway with his large white MGGA van. After four emails and a threat to call police, he finally stopped. For years Dave would park his large van across the sidewalk forcing pedestrians, some elderly and some with children/pets to walk into the street around van, back onto the sidewalk. He had the nerve to call police on me when ONE time I parked to close to his mailbox. Shortly after I returned the favor when I called police about him parking across the sidewalk. The police came and warned him that it's illegal and dangerous to block sidewalk.I can only wonder how far MGGA might have grown had it been somebody else who truly cares for the youth and worked at it 40 hrs a week, not the minimum 10-15 a week tops. Dave Packer is at home/office over 95% of the time yet he is quoted in the press as saying his biggest regret is not being able to spend more time with his family? I almost fell off my chair when I read that. Such a liar and deceiver! Not to bore anybody, but I could write a book of all the run-ins and observations relating to Dave Packer and family and, why I would never donate to MGGA. I realize words are cheap, but you won't find too many people more honest than myself.
