Performance One Advanced Sports Training Introduce
For residents of Mesa, Arizona, who are serious about taking their fitness, strength, and athletic performance to the next level, Performance One Advanced Sports Training stands out as a premier destination. This isn't your average gym; it's a dedicated facility focused on building athletes from the ground up, whether you're a seasoned competitor or just starting out on your fitness journey. With a rich legacy spanning over two decades, Performance One has earned a reputation for excellence in Olympic weightlifting and strength and conditioning. The philosophy here is simple but powerful: to provide the knowledge, motivation, and accountability needed to reach and surpass your goals. The environment is one where "effort earns respect," and every individual is empowered to unlock their full potential. This article will provide an in-depth look at what makes Performance One a unique and highly recommended training facility for the Mesa community, detailing its expert coaching, specialized programs, and supportive culture.
The core of the Performance One experience is the high-level coaching and meticulously structured training programs. As one satisfied customer noted, the sessions are "well-structured, challenging, and tailored to my specific needs and goals." This personalized approach is a key differentiator, ensuring that every athlete, regardless of their starting point, receives a program designed for their unique body and objectives. Head Coach Joe Micela, a 2012 Olympic Team Coach for Weightlifting, leads the charge with an unparalleled level of expertise. His experience is not limited to just one discipline; he has a diverse background that includes serving as the head strength and conditioning coach for the Arizona Rattlers Arena Football Team, showcasing his versatility and deep understanding of athletic development. His supporting coaches are also highly praised, with one reviewer stating they are "all outstanding too," highlighting the collective expertise of the entire team. This team of elite coaches is committed to building not just stronger bodies, but also a championship mindset, instilling values of discipline and hard work that extend beyond the gym floor. The focus on long-term athletic development (LTAD) means they are not just looking at short-term gains, but at sustained growth and excellence, preparing athletes for success in their sport and in life.

The facility is equipped to handle athletes of all ages and skill levels, with dedicated youth programs designed to build a strong athletic foundation. This commitment to all-age development shows their dedication to the future of sports in the community. The atmosphere all around is worth checking out for yourself. Highly recommend to anyone serious about strength training.
April 29 · Lindsey PalmerAmazing facility and elite level coaching. Joe Micela is as good as it gets in Weightlifting coaches. Really builds great relationships with his athletes of all ages. His supporting coaches are all outstanding too. My son has trained here for years - can't speak highly enough of this place.
April 16 · David GeorgeJoe and his staff do it right if you are a weightlifter or sport athlete who is serious about improvement. These coaches know their stuff and more importantly create a training environment for athletes to become their best athletic self regardless of talent level. If you love shiny objects, this isn’t the place for you. But if you have grit, toughness, and a genuine desire to improve, these guys will go the distance with you.
May 01 · JonBeen training under Joe Micela for over 8 years and he is the best Olympic weightlifting/strength and conditioning coach in Arizona, bar none. He cares deeply for his athletes and will go above and beyond for you. He is dedicated to his craft and it shows. You won’t find any place better than Performance One.
July 24 · Morgan HuppenthalI came here years ago to see if I would be any good at Olympic Weightlifting. I can confidently say Coach Joe is almost too good at what he does. There are weights I have been able to lift that I never thought I would be able to come close to. He believes in his athletes and the sport has taught me discipline and confidence not only in sport but in life. Whether it’s weightlifting or strength and conditioning, you will be molded into an athlete here. My most recent PR was a back squat double at 170kg (374lbs) posted here. Thanks Joe for all you do!!
