Orangetheory Fitness Introduce
Introduction / Overview
For Illinois residents seeking an innovative, science-backed approach to group fitness, look no further than Orangetheory Fitness. This fitness center, located in the dynamic Lake View East neighborhood of Chicago, is celebrated for its unique, one-hour, full-body workout designed to produce a phenomenon known as Excess Post-Exercise Oxygen Consumption (EPOC), or the "afterburn." This metabolic lift means your body continues to burn calories at an elevated rate for up to 24 hours post-workout.
Orangetheory Fitness differentiates itself from traditional gyms by providing heart-rate monitored interval training in a high-energy group setting. Each class blends cardio and strength training, incorporating treadmills, water rowers, and weight room exercises to target endurance, strength, and power. The intensity is regulated by a personal heart rate monitor, displayed on screens throughout the studio, which guides you through five different training zones. The goal is to spend 12 or more minutes in the "Orange Zone" (84% or higher of your maximum heart rate) to achieve the desired metabolic boost. This system ensures every participant, regardless of their current fitness level, is working out at the right intensity for their individual goals, with expert personal trainers on hand to lead the class and offer modifications.
The Lake View East studio in Chicago is a well-regarded location that embodies the core principles of Orangetheory: technology-driven training, expert coaching, and a motivating group atmosphere. While some new members have shared initial experiences that felt less welcoming, the overall consensus among long-term attendees highlights the professional coaching staff and the studio’s excellent physical layout, creating an environment that many consider to be one of the best Orangetheory locations in the city. The program focuses on providing a structured, no-planning-required workout, ideal for busy Chicagoans and Illinois locals who want maximum results in minimal time.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I do not recommend this location. From the moment I arrived, the experience was unwelcoming and unprofessional. No one greeted me when I came in, even though it was my very first class. I showed up 25 minutes early, they told me I needed to leave and come back at exactly 30 minutes before class. After calling me over 30 times to get me into the studio, I expected a friendlier environment, but instead I was treated poorly. I suggest choosing a different gym where new members are treated with respect and made to feel welcome.
September 17 · Karo CDefinitely the best OTF location in the city, specifically because it’s the best gym layout compared to the other ones I’ve tried but more importantly because they have the best coaches. I specifically can’t say enough good things about Coach Miles. I go out of my way to the Wrigleyville studio to try and book as many classes as I can with him because he’s really engaged with the members and is extremely motivating. He remembers you by name and calls it out during class to tell you you’re doing a great job, he remembers details about you like any injuries you may have, he corrects your form as you’re working out which is exactly why I prefer a coach rather than going to an open gym where I don’t know what I’m doing. He’s also super high energy (I can’t imagine him ever having a bad day) and plays the best music out of any coach I’ve had (keep playing the 2000s Alt Rock and I’ll keep coming to his classes). He motivates me to work harder in class and shows he truly cares about our performance. Whatever you’re paying him, it’s not enough.
August 19 · Ranana GordonI cancelled my membership because I didn't like the atmosphere. One person can really ruin an experience that was meant to be incorporated into my daily life. NATALIE WAS THE WORST TRAINER with the most unpleasant attitude. After only two encounters, I made an effort to avoid her classes, but unfortunately, she attended classes frequently which made it nearly impossible to completely avoid her. My first experience was with Miles, which was great; he was actually the reason I initially signed up because he was easy to work with. My second experience was with Natalie, who was rude and treated me as though I should know the rules of Orange Theory on my second day there. Instead of kindly explaining, she treated me disrespectfully. She had a huge attitude, rolled her eyes, and was unprofessional. This happened again on my third encounter with her, and even the fourth time when I asked her what my number was because I forgot it. She had an attitude about that, like she couldn’t be bothered. She was beyond unprofessional; I've witnessed her gossiping at the front desk about who knows what, but definitely complaining. I can't go back. I don’t want to go back. I would rather pay extra for Barry’s where everyone is cheerful and easy. Miles and the other two trainers were great. And on top of that, I thought the heart monitor came with each session. What the heck, not until I signed up did they tell me I needed to buy or rent one for each session. Very disappointing. I was sold on Orangetheory and I only got that experience once. Combined with Natalie's behavior, it's just not worth it. I expect a certain level of service anywhere I spend MY money. I don’t mind paying more for a better experience and better treatment.
May 01 · Milwaukee ManagementJust about a month into my OrangeTheory journey, and I'm LOVING IT! :) All the coaches at this location are so encouraging and make each class not only intense, but so much fun! Jenna is especially nice; made my first class very easy (mentally, definitely not physically ha-ha!) :)I love all the different events through the month, and it's definitely worth it to invest in the fitness tracker; I love tracking my progress! It also feels great to not feel self conscious being one of the biggest persons in most classes; the coaches offer praise on hard work and the other people in class always offer high fives! Can't wait to keep pushing towards bigger goals!
August 08 · Zachary ThomasI’ve been attending this Orangetheory close to a year now and it is a part of my weekly workouts! I love the mixture of cardio and weight training. Miles is one of my favorite trainers because he is so enthusiastic!
