Mount Vernon Barbell Introduce
Mount Vernon Barbell (MVB) is a strength-focused gym located in Mt Vernon, New York, designed for individuals who are serious about their fitness journey. Our facility is a haven for powerlifters, bodybuilders, and strongman competitors, providing a specialized environment that is often difficult to find in a standard commercial gym. We aim to offer a space where dedicated athletes can train without the distractions of a typical fitness center. With a wide variety of equipment and a spacious layout, we cater to a community of like-minded individuals who are committed to pushing their limits and achieving their goals.
The core philosophy of Mount Vernon Barbell is to provide a "no-nonsense" training environment. Our gym is built around the needs of serious lifters, offering high-quality equipment that is essential for strength training. We understand that for many, a gym is not just a place to work out; it's a second home and a community. Our gym culture is intended to foster motivation and support, creating an atmosphere where members can feel encouraged to reach their full potential. While our environment is geared toward a hardcore lifting crowd, we strive to be a place where everyone can feel safe and inspired to work on their personal goals.
However, it is worth noting that some former members have raised significant concerns regarding the gym's environment. Feedback has pointed to issues with the interior temperature, with some finding the lack of air conditioning makes physical activity challenging. There have also been mentions of a cliquey atmosphere and hygiene issues, including unsanitized equipment and a general lack of cleanliness. Additionally, some members have reported that the presence of social media influencers who monopolize equipment for filming has created a disruptive and unwelcoming atmosphere. While we are committed to addressing these concerns and improving the member experience, it is important for prospective members to be aware of these past issues.

Deciding on a gym is a personal choice, and Mount Vernon Barbell is a great option for a specific type of gym-goer. What makes this gym worth choosing is its unwavering focus on serious lifting. If you are a powerlifter, a bodybuilder, or someone who "take their training seriously," as one review notes, you will find a home here. The "spacious" layout and "a lot of variety" in equipment, including specialized gear not found in commercial gyms, provide the perfect environment for a "no bullshit" workout. The gym's culture is built around motivation and getting after it, which can be incredibly beneficial for those who thrive in a hardcore atmosphere. The free chalk and the quality of the equipment are small details that demonstrate a big commitment to the craft of lifting.
However, it is crucial to consider the critiques raised by some members. Issues such as a lack of adequate ventilation, which can make the gym "unpleasantly hot," and concerns about cleanliness are important factors to weigh. The presence of social media influencers who may "monopolize equipment" and create a "cliquey atmosphere" is also a potential drawback for those who prefer a more inclusive and less disruptive environment. While the price might be "a little too steep" for some, the value is in the specialized equipment and community for those who need it. Ultimately, Mount Vernon Barbell is a gym for those who prioritize a serious, dedicated lifting environment above all else, and who are willing to navigate some of the challenges that come with such a specific gym culture.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1After careful consideration, I have decided to cancel my membership with MVB due to several significant concerns that severely impacted my experience at the facility.Firstly, the indoor environment is consistently uncomfortable. The gym lacks adequate ventilation or air conditioning, resulting in excessively high temperatures that make physical activity challenging and unpleasant. This persistent heat hinders focus during workouts and compromises the overall atmosphere for members.Secondly, the behavior of certain individuals, particularly those who appear to be social media influencers, has created a highly unwelcoming environment and inconsistent training facility for those who take their training seriously. These members frequently monopolize equipment for extended periods, setting up tripods and cameras to record content, which obstructs access to machines and weights. Their conduct is often blatantly rude—ignoring or dismissing requests to share equipment, speaking curtly to other members, and treating the gym as their personal studio. This entitled behavior disrupts the flow of workouts, creates unnecessary tension, and makes it nearly impossible for others to use shared spaces efficiently. The pervasive presence of these influencers fosters a cliquey atmosphere that alienates regular members. Most concerning is the inadequate hygiene maintained by both some members and the facility itself. Equipment is frequently left unsanitized, used towels are strewn about, and an unpleasant odor permeates the space, indicating insufficient cleaning efforts by staff. This lack of attention to cleanliness raises serious concerns about health and safety.Regrettably, the combination of oppressive heat, disruptive and discourteous influencer behavior, and poor hygiene standards made continuing my membership untenable. I had hoped for a professional and inclusive fitness environment, but these issues fell far short of reasonable expectations.I strongly urge MVB management to address these concerns to improve the experience for current and future members.
August 14 · Derrick HobbsI liked the gym. It was spacious alot of variety and even has free chalk for lifting. The music and staff was also good. The price is a little too steep for me, but it's deff a gym for those taking their workouts serious.
March 10 · GThe ONLY place to train in Westchester if you are serious about training. Simply the best… atmosphere, equipment, members and staff.
August 01 · Coach Pete MontpelierBest gym in the Tristate area. Tons of equipment and the new location is huge.Home of the legends
December 21 · Henry QuezadaUnprofessional business. They changed locations without any notification to the members and continue to charge me monthly despite not knowing where or when they would reopen. Spoke to the front desk today, and he said they don't have a phone number which is why I was unable to get in touch with anyone. Went to their website and it still lists their old address. I wanted to cancel my membership and he told me I had to do it via email, despite me already being there in person. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THESE PEOPLE, THEY ARE SHADY!
