LA Fitness Introduce
LA Fitness is a well-known name in the world of fitness, with a widespread presence that has made it a convenient option for many Californians. The Downtown Los Angeles location, situated in the bustling heart of the city, offers a comprehensive gym experience that aims to cater to a diverse clientele. As a large-scale fitness center, it provides a wide array of equipment and amenities designed for general fitness, strength training, and group exercise. For many, its main appeal lies in its affordability and convenience, offering a straightforward path to fitness goals without the high price tag of more boutique studios. This location has become a staple for many in the Downtown area, providing a go-to space for workouts that range from a simple run on the treadmill to a more structured class with an instructor. While its extensive facilities are a major draw, the experience can vary, as is often the case with high-volume gyms. It's a place where you can find a variety of fitness options all under one roof, making it a potentially practical choice for those looking for a broad range of services without needing to go to multiple different locations.
The philosophy of LA Fitness is rooted in making fitness accessible and convenient for a broad audience. The brand's model is built on providing a wide range of services for a relatively low monthly fee, attracting a high volume of members. This approach is exemplified by its wide variety of cardio and strength equipment, as well as a full schedule of group classes that are included with membership. The gym is a place where members can design their own workout routines, from traditional weightlifting to modern functional exercises. It also offers personal training for those who need more structured guidance and motivation. However, this high-volume model sometimes comes with challenges. According to several member reviews, the management of facilities and equipment maintenance can be inconsistent, with reports of broken machines and issues with amenities like air conditioning. These are important factors for potential members to consider, as they can significantly impact the overall workout experience. The gym is best suited for individuals who prioritize a vast selection of equipment and the ability to work out on their own schedule, and who are willing to navigate some of the potential downsides of a high-traffic environment.
The location of LA Fitness in Downtown Los Angeles is a key factor in its popularity and accessibility. Situated at 700 W 7th St Ste G300, Los Angeles, CA 90017, USA, the gym is in a prime spot within a major urban center. This address places it near offices, residential buildings, and public transportation hubs, making it a convenient stop for a workout before, during, or after work. The facility offers on-site services and is designed to be accessible to everyone, with a wheelchair-accessible entrance, parking lot, and restroom. This inclusivity is a vital feature, ensuring that a broad range of individuals can utilize the gym's facilities. The convenience of its location in the LA Bloc building is a major draw for people living and working downtown. While the reviews mention that the restrooms can be "hidden" on the ground floor, it's a common characteristic of large, multi-level fitness centers located within commercial buildings. The ease of access for local residents and office workers is one of the most significant benefits of this gym, making it a logical choice for those who want to integrate fitness into their busy urban lifestyle.
LA Fitness provides a comprehensive suite of services that cater to various workout preferences. A major component is the availability of group classes, with options such as Yoga Class and Pilates Class. These are perfect for members who thrive in a structured, guided environment and enjoy the motivation of working out with others. The gym also offers a robust personal training program, where members can work one-on-one with a professional to create a customized fitness plan tailored to their specific goals. For those who prefer independent training, the gym floor is well-equipped with a wide range of equipment. This includes areas for Weight Lifting and Resistance Training, as well as dedicated spaces for Functional Exercises. The inclusion of a swimming pool is a standout amenity, providing a valuable option for low-impact cardio, swimming laps, or participating in water-based fitness classes. With so many options available, members can easily switch up their routines to prevent boredom and target different muscle groups. This variety is a core part of the LA Fitness offering, ensuring that every workout can be different and engaging. The gym’s ability to provide multiple workout disciplines under one roof is a major selling point for those who want a one-stop-shop for their fitness needs.
Services offered include:
- Personal Training
- Functional Exercises
- Pilates Class

- Weight Lifting

- Group Fitness Classes
- Swimming Pool Access
The features and highlights of this LA Fitness location are a mix of both positive and challenging aspects, as highlighted by public reviews. On the positive side, the gym is known for its wide range of amenities. The inclusion of a swimming pool, restrooms, and showers are significant features that add value to a membership. The presence of Wi-Fi is another modern convenience that members appreciate. The gym is also prepared for a modern clientele with its payment options, accepting credit cards, debit cards, and NFC mobile payments. Furthermore, the gym is wheelchair accessible, with a dedicated entrance, parking lot, and restroom, which is a commendable feature. However, the reviews point to significant issues in the day-to-day operations. Concerns about broken equipment, non-functional air conditioning in key areas, and a perceived lack of facility maintenance are recurring themes. Members have also reported issues with locker security and a less-than-ideal atmosphere with "sloppy" behavior and poor management of a high volume of people. While the gym does offer many desirable features, the overall experience can be impacted by these operational challenges. The promise of extensive amenities is a strong selling point, but the consistent maintenance of those amenities is a crucial aspect to consider.
Features and highlights include:
- Onsite services with a wide array of equipment
- Swimming pool for aquatic workouts
- Wheelchair accessible entrance, parking lot, and restroom
- Restrooms and showers
- Wi-Fi available for members
- Flexible payment options (Credit cards, Debit cards, NFC mobile payments)
To get in touch with LA Fitness in Downtown Los Angeles, you can visit them at their address: 700 W 7th St Ste G300, Los Angeles, CA 90017, USA. You can also reach them by phone at (213) 624-3933 or on their mobile phone at +1 213-624-3933. Since membership is required, it is best to contact them or visit during staffed hours to inquire about membership options and receive a tour of the facility. The reviews indicate that the sign-up process can be a lengthy one, with managers requesting personal information, which is something to be prepared for. Direct contact with the club staff is the best way to get a sense of the current state of the facility and its offerings before committing to a membership.
So, what makes LA Fitness a worthwhile choice for a gym in California? The main appeal is its combination of affordability and convenience. For those who live or work in Downtown LA and are looking for a gym with a wide variety of equipment and amenities, it offers a practical solution. The presence of a swimming pool is a major plus, as are the group classes that provide a structured alternative to solo workouts. The ability to use a membership at multiple locations is also a key benefit for those who travel or have a flexible schedule. However, it is essential for prospective members to manage their expectations based on the realities expressed in public reviews. The gym may be best suited for individuals who are self-motivated, don't require constant equipment functionality, and value a high-volume, low-cost model. It provides a solid foundation for a fitness routine, and for many, the price point and location outweigh the reported issues. It's a gym that promises a lot of options, and for the right member, it can be a convenient and effective place to work out, provided they are prepared for the potential challenges of a high-traffic, large-scale facility.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 16/11/25: gym unexpectedly closed without notice. LA Fitness could have sent a message through the app, knowing that we attend this gym based on scanning in. I’m exhausted by this company’s incompetence.3/17/25: lockers, broken into and items stolen. See image of broken locker. Staff here do a poor job of monitoring who enters the gym and they permit people who are not working out and not using the showers to linger in the locker room, which allows them to observe who has valuables and what lockers to break into.. i’ve seen people in this locker room, have psychotic episodes, make threats, and sleep.2/11/24 more treadmills broken!11/18:24 4 treadmills have been broken for months. No sign on them, nothing is done to fix them. Completely incompetent management that doesn’t check the equipment.8/15/24: Air conditioning in the cardio area hasn’t worked in months. I’ve emailed the company a few times and it doesn’t get fixed. This is typical for LA fitness to neglect the facilities, but this location in particular is one of the worst I’ve been to.Ask to see the service schedule. It doesn’t exist. Equipment stays broken here for months at a time. It’s not all bad though, inexpensive. Members at this location can be sloppy douchebags. Update: I’m reducing my rating from 2 to 1 star because the incompetent management can’t even keep toilet paper stocked- had to wipe my ass with toilet seat covers.Been going here for 5 years because it’s convenient. The staff and management is a revolving door and equipment stays broken for months. There is a piece of chewed gum on the wall that has been there for 5 years.7/23/24 update. It’s 95 degrees outside and the AC isn’t working in the gym. It hasn’t worked in the cardio area for months.
June 11 · Joe MTerrible gym. We got free access to the gym by staying at a nearby hotel, and this is easily the worst gym I’ve been in. Not only is it at max capacity at all times, but the equipment is broken, dirty, and there is barely any Space. Additionally, the restrooms are hidden on the ground floor, and you will not easily be able to find them. There are even additional secret rooms with machines that are packed to the broom. If you stay at a nearby hotel, be prepared for this gym to ask you for all your personal information. Full name, date of birth, phone number, physical home address, email address, license to scan, and the confirmation number to your hotel stay. Do not give this confirmation number from your hotel because anyone with that number cannot only cancel any reservations, they can also gain access to your room by giving the confirmation at the front desk. I told them I would not be giving anything besides a name, phone, email. If you decide to, unfortunately come here, just give them fake information. It takes about 10 to 15 minutes to even get access to the gym because you have to sit down with a manager to get all this information.Avoid at all costs.
November 18 · GourmandThis gym is below the average standard for gyms in Los Angeles and, within the DTLA area, probably the worst gym to choose from. You will never get a weight machine between noon to closing, the benches are always full, and the weights are never put back on a rack. In the two years I have had a membership, I have not seen any staff doing walk throughs of the gym and helping put back equipment where they belong. There is only one row of treadmills and four stairmasters. Every other treadmill has a functioning screen and maybe one of the bunch has a working fan. The A/C in the gym is weak and the air will get stuffy. As for the stairmasters, I am surprised these are still being used by the gym. They are so rusted and rotted out that I worry about using them. Look at the base of the display on the stairmasters and you’ll see that they’ve been eaten away from rust and consequently have removed their structural integrity — it’s a lawsuit waiting to happen if someone gets injured… and someone WILL get injured. The bathrooms are dirty, smelly, and often house homeless people. I would rather hold it in and wait until I get home than step in their restroom. This gym is poorly maintained and largely neglected with its only redeeming quality being its pool.If you are considering this gym, or have a membership that you want to get out of, I would recommend planet fitness. They have new and clean treadmills (with four rows of them!), the machines are relatively constantly available, and there are a lot let patrons at peak hours using the gym. You’re also paying half the price than this dump of a gym.
September 19 · Marc SFirst time to this location, had business to attend and decided to workout nearby. I was hesitant at first, after reading so many negative reviews. This LAFITNESS location did not disappoint, multiple layers of workout space, they have plenty of machines and free weights; all working. The locker room, bathrooms and showers were very clean. The entire staff was friendly and on top of things for what I saw. Also the people working out was cool and handling workout business.Parking structure seen safe and clean, walking security at all times. Validation inside the LAFitness front desk.Overall excellent gym and recommend! I’ll probably be back, had a good workout.
September 08 · Daniel AmaroLocker Theft & No Accountability – Extremely UnsafeI had an unacceptable experience at the Downtown LA Bloc LA Fitness on May 19, 2025. While I was working out, someone broke into my locker and stole my phone and wallet. The worst part? When I asked for help and requested camera footage, I was told the security cameras “just happened” to be down during the exact time of the incident. Seriously? There was no sense of urgency or concern from the staff. No one offered assistance or seemed to care that a member was robbed inside their facility. I filed a police report, and I’m now taking further steps because this wasn’t just unfortunate — it was negligent.I get that the membership contract says they aren’t liable for theft, but when you provide lockers and advertise a secure facility, there is a basic expectation that security is functional and staff are trained to respond. That clearly isn’t the case here.If you value your safety and your belongings, stay away from this location. This is not just bad service — it’s a serious lack of responsibility and basic security.
