LA Fitness Introduce
For those on Long Island seeking a comprehensive gym with a variety of amenities, LA Fitness in Lake Grove, located at 110 New Moriches Rd, has often been a go-to destination. As a prominent name in the fitness industry, this gym offers a wide array of services and facilities designed to cater to various fitness goals, from weight lifting and resistance training to more dynamic classes like yoga and Pilates. The facility is a full-service gym with the potential to be a standout fitness hub in the community, providing members with a spacious environment and a variety of equipment to choose from. While it has the "bones to be an amazing gym," as one member put it, its current state and management have been points of concern for some local users.
The gym's physical structure and array of offerings are undoubtedly impressive. It boasts a large space with areas for cardio, free weights, and resistance machines. For members who enjoy a varied workout, the presence of a swimming pool and a basketball court adds a significant layer of value. The sauna is a great amenity for post-workout relaxation and recovery. These features, on paper, make it an attractive option for anyone in Lake Grove and surrounding areas. However, the experience of a gym is defined not just by its amenities but by their functionality and maintenance. Multiple long-time members have raised concerns about the upkeep of the facility, including a high number of broken machines and a lack of essential equipment like weight pins. These issues, if not addressed, can create a frustrating experience, as members are left to improvise or search for working equipment.
The importance of attentive management and staff cannot be overstated in a service-based business like a gym. Members have noted a disconnect between the potential of the facility and its day-to-day operation. With broken machines that have reportedly been out of order for extended periods, and essential parts like weight pins missing from a significant number of machines, the frustration among paying customers is understandable. This has led to members feeling "disgruntled and frustrated," having to go to extraordinary lengths, such as buying their own pins or using makeshift ones, just to complete their workouts. This not only impacts the workout experience but also speaks to a broader issue of maintenance and management. As a member pointed out, a responsive management team that takes pride in their facility is crucial for its success and member satisfaction. The feedback suggests that this is an area where the Lake Grove location could significantly improve, especially given the competitive landscape of gyms in the area.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1If zero was an option that would be it. This gym has the bones to be an amazing gym. However multiple machines do not work with signs of being repaired for years … stairmaster bikes treadmills elliptical. The circuit weight machines often jerk in movement and tension is off and missing levers to change weight. Most recently there are NO pins in 80% of machines probably more. To the point customers are buying their own pins or customers are using makeshift pins jamming up the equipment which is then unusable. Staff do not care. When they are touring new perspective clients they aren’t saying the machines with signs have had these signs for months or years with no repairs. Corporate doesn’t care bc if they did they’d come out and help get the gym up and running appropriately. The staff are kids and although I feel bad they are the sounding board they are representing this gym. People are buying pins on Amazon overnight yet the facility can’t resolve the issue. Everyday I hope to walk in and see the issues resolved; thinking how can this even be real but to my disappointment no progress. Customers are walking around disgruntled and frustrated searching for pins and unable to complete workouts. With Centereach location recently closing you’d think they can get pins from there and swap out for working equipment. Bathrooms are outdated dirty and not cleaned regularly. LA fitness needs management who take pride in their facility. In addition they are less then a mile from DICKS where they can get pins even if it’s temporary. Now they offer pins at the desk “for collateral” and these pins don’t fit in all machines. This gym is surrounded by other gyms within a mile which are way less money and in working order.
March 18 · Lauren RobertsonThis gym needs new management. The bathrooms are always dirty. A lot of the machines do not have the weight pins, people have removed them. I have counted atleast 10 machines and this has been going on more than a month . Management won’t do anything except text and talk on the phone .
March 08 · David FrancoisThis gym used to be my favorite location, the size is great and I never have an issue getting on a machine. The staff is very friendly but this gym is absolutely DISGUSTING. God forbid, you have to use a stall.. every single toilet has piss on the seats or feces everywhere. If you need a paper towel, GOOD LUCK bc it’s always out or has a “for service” sign on it for months now. The showers are nasty, water pressure inconsistent and half the time there is no soap. I feel like they updated the gym to get members and now since Centereach closed, they don’t have to actively put renovations or proper cleaning into it. This is not against the employees who work here, just the staffing ratio or oversight. Besides the bathroom/locker rooms, the gym itself is great. If I didn’t have to shower before work, I would never walk into them LOL.
August 24 · Nick LinborgI like this gym location more then most. It has spacious areas workout in, multiple variety of equipment from cardio, weight lifting, and free weights. The staff are professional, kind and curious to clients. I find other clients are nice as well, and more open to talking then at other locations. Only thing that needs fixing, elipical machines are out of date and need be replaced, some weight lifting machines like arm curl etc need replacing. Also, the bags in this gym are filled with concrete. I can go to any other location go bare handed with the bags. This location, filled them with concrete. They need update the list of protein smoothies as well at the juice bar. Honestly, every location should be modeled after this location minus filling bags with concrete.
August 25 · Jay Ososothis gym kind of sucks. equipment is always broken and the weight rack is a mess. There’s not enough of each weight either. I’ve never had this problem this other gyms. At crunch everything is organized. the weight rack is in order, there is tons of each weight, and easy to find what you need.I only switched for the pool, but very disappointing.
