★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1The Y was recently renovated. It is better than before. They have new showers, tiles, floors, swimming pool is better. We now have more space to have a Pilates class each week and not be cramped in a storage space. I love what they have done. It is worth the value being a member and having options for different classes, days and times to choose that best fit your schedule and lifestyle.
July 20 · Bergina CruiseI joined the Gwinnett Family YMCA a few months ago because the facility looked great, recently renovated and in a convenient location.Unfortunately, my experience has been disappointing. I pay over $122 a month for a family membership that I’ve barely used, mostly due to a busy schedule. I usually visit after work hours on weekdays or occasionally on weekends. I had also signed up with hopes of enrolling my young daughters in swim lessons and possibly summer camps, but I’ve had to reconsider after several frustrating experiences. From day one, things started off poorly. When I first signed up on a Saturday around noon, the front desk staff, particularly a young woman, handled the process very unprofessionally. They entered my name, address, and email completely wrong, despite having my driver’s license and the completed paperwork right in front of them. This caused a major issue: I needed accurate payment receipts to get reimbursed by my employer, but my reimbursement was denied for two months due to the incorrect personal information they entered into the system. It took a month and another trip to the YMCA before someone else at the front desk finally corrected the errors.Another concern: the outdoor pool isn’t well-maintained. Even though there are plenty of staff around, the pool was dirty when I took my daughters there, and unfortunately, both of them got sick afterward. That was the final straw. I went back to cancel my membership in early July around 7 PM on a weekday. I filled out the cancellation form, and when I asked if anything else was needed, the staff member (a young man) assured me the process was complete on my end and that I’d receive a confirmation email. I never got that email, and now I see that I’ve been charged again for August. It’s frustrating and feels disorganized. When I signed up, I’ve also asked about various programs what they offer, and most of the time the staff don’t seem to know much. They just direct you to the website or hand out brochures. Most of my interactions have been during after-hours and weekends, and unfortunately, the customer service during those times has been consistently lacking. The YMCA has a lot of potential, great facilities and a nice location, but they really need to invest in properly training their front desk staff. Clear communication, basic attention to detail, and professionalism go a long way, and sadly, those are all areas where my experience has fallen short.Over a decade with LA Fitness and never a problem. I’m back now, lesson learned after wasting time and money at the YMCA.
August 03 · Hassen H.I love the wide variety of classes offered - there is truly something for everyone and the coaches are friendly and encouraging. The cardio and weight rooms are top of the line too, with a ton of great quality equipment. Even at peak hours, you will always find a spot. The gym was recently renovated so there are brand new locker rooms, showers, sauna, and steam room, and I see staff around cleaning frequently. 10/10
September 05 · Angela CoccaI’m an early bird. It’s not unusual for me to get there at six or 6:30 in the morning and be there till 930 or 1030 depending on what aqua classes are offered the wellness coaches are very friendly and I’ve always been helpful the ones at the front desk are also very friendly, especially that early in the morning And Randy the lifeguard he is hilarious. I think he knows everybody that comes in the wire has become my community so to speak I look forward to seeing the different people. I may not know their names, but I recognize faces is friendly faces and smiles. It’s very positive place to be.
July 01 · Cindy RyanYMCA Summer Camp Registration ExperienceI recently completed an application to enroll my child in the YMCA summer camp and wanted to share some feedback about the registration and payment process. After submitting the application, I approached the front desk to make a payment using a card different from the one on file. The staff member informed me that the Registrar would need to process the payment and assured me I would receive a call before anything was charged, allowing me to provide the correct card.Unfortunately, I never received a call. Instead, I got an email receipt an hour later showing that the charge was made to the card I had specifically stated I wouldn’t be using. I had to call the YMCA myself to address the issue and was transferred to the Registrar, Ms. Sherry. She was not apologetic and implied that the responsibility was mine for not ensuring the message was passed along—though I had clearly communicated it to the front desk. The application does give two options: to pay in full or to provide a card for automatic draft. I selected the option to pay in full but did not enter card information for drafting. Despite this, Ms. Sherry accessed my membership account, used the card I had flagged not to use, and charged an amount that was more than expected. This situation caused my account to go into the negative, and I had to contact my bank for assistance since a refund could not be issued directly. I feel strongly that those in charge of registration and payments should be more accessible and in communication with the front desk team to avoid these types of issues. It’s frustrating when front desk staff aren’t equipped to help and you’re left emailing back and forth for answers to what should be simple questions.I hope this feedback encourages a review of the communication process between departments and leads to a more coordinated and responsive experience for families going forward.
