★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Let’s start with the most baffling flaw: the operating hours. In what world does a premium gym—one that charges a small fortune for membership—decide that 10 PM is an acceptable closing time? This isn’t 1995. People work late, travel, and keep unconventional schedules. A gym that prides itself on being a global brand should understand that fitness doesn’t adhere to banker’s hours. The fact that they still cling to this outdated model speaks volumes about their priorities—and it’s clearly not member convenience.Beyond that, the value proposition crumbles under scrutiny. Yes, the facility is clean, and the equipment, while not cutting-edge, is maintained. But cleanliness and basic functionality are table stakes, not selling points. For the price, you’d expect more than just the bare minimum—like, say, enough space to actually move during peak hours without playing human Tetris with other frustrated members. And let’s talk about the crowding. When a gym charges this much, it should either limit membership or expand facilities. Gold’s does neither, leaving you to fight for a sliver of bench space like it’s Black Friday at a discount sporting goods store.Bottom line: A relic with a polished facade. If you value your time, money, or sanity, look elsewhere.
July 25 · nivea maria ferreiraExcellent Environment, Equipment, Cleanliness & Customer Service. I would definitely return to Gold’s Gym in Long Branch, NJ
March 30 · Christopher LondonI don’t come to Gold’s all the time but after Zumba w/ Shanelle I am seriously considering a membership. Her class was SO FUN and her energy was there to match. The zumba moves were easy to follow but also got you a nice sweat, it was great! And let’s not talk about the music THE BEST, everything was perfect. I would def come back a million times more !! (She also makes a killer protein smoothie featured below) highly recommend!
February 20 · Julia BridgesFor a gym that positions itself as a premium option, Gold’s Gym in Long Branch leaves much to be desired—especially when you consider the steep membership fees. While the location is undeniably convenient and the facility is generally well-maintained (staff is amazing), there are glaring issues that make you question whether the price tag is justified.First and foremost: the operating hours are unacceptable. In an era where 24-hour gyms are the norm, closing at 10 PM is laughable—especially for a brand that charges premium rates. If you’re going to demand top dollar, at least provide the basic convenience of late-night or round-the-clock access. Now, onto the neglected maintenance:- Broken machines sit unrepaired for weeks, if not longer. If you’re paying for access to equipment, it should actually be functional.- Faded weight labels make tracking progress needlessly frustrating. A simple repaint would solve this—why hasn’t it been done?- The air conditioning is practically nonexistent in warmer months. If the goal is to make workouts unbearable, mission accomplished. Then there’s the layout and atmosphere:- The StairMaster placement at the entrance is awkward at best, uncomfortable at worst. It’s 2025—gyms should prioritize member comfort, not outdated floor plans.- Teenagers loitering, shouting disrespectful comments? This isn’t a food court. Staff should enforce basic gym etiquette. And let’s not forget the small but telling oversights:- Empty soap dispensers, missing towels—these aren’t luxuries, they’re basics. If you pride yourself on cleanliness, actually maintain it.Now, with the rebrand to Phorm Fitness and the supposed addition of a cold room, one has to wonder: Will this be a genuine upgrade, or just another excuse to hike prices without fixing existing problems? If history is any indication, I’m not optimistic.Final Verdict: A decent gym with frustrating flaws. For the price, you deserve better—whether it’s later hours, working equipment, or just basic respect for your membership. Fix these issues before demanding more money.
July 25 · Joao Felipe Nolasco FerreiraGold's Gym is clean and well-maintained, with older equipment that still works fine. However, it's extremely overpriced for what it offers. Some machines, like the hip abductor, are only available in one unit—unacceptable for such an expensive membership.Another major downside: they close at 10 PM. Seriously? Many people need a gym open later. Now they're rebranding to "Phorm Fitness." Will anything actually improve, or is this just a fancy name for the same disappointing experience?
