★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I have been going to East Coast Gym for almost 4 years now. The gym is well kept and the machines and weights are maintained well. There are a variety of free weights and machines to work out with, the owner occasionally adds new ones as well. The owner is incredibly kind, but takes no nonsense when it comes to proper gym etiquette, like putting weights away. It's this exact reason why the gym always looks organized and you never have to worry about weights being left everywhere. The community here is great, whether you have been working out here 10 years or 10 days, you are treated like family. I highly recommend this gym!
July 28 · Robin LuoI’ve been a member of East Coast Gym for a number of years and have even used Marvin, the owner’s, training services a couple of times. I love it there. The fact that the gym is private and you need a code to get in really is a plus. It makes you feel safe when you are training at all hours of the day and night. The gym is always neat, clean and well organized. There are plenty of machines for all your fitness goals and if Marvin is in the gym when you are training and you are having difficulty using a piece of equipment he will show you personally and even give you tips on how to get the most out of the machine you are using to match your fitness goals. If you happen to sign up with him to train you get a spectrum of services. Nutrition counseling, workouts, everything you need to meet your fitness goal. I can’t say enough good things about East Coast Gym and Marvin the owner. He is very reasonable and friendly. Come check them out. Take a tour and talk with him. I’m sure you’ll like what you see.
July 29 · Denita JohnsonIf you want to take it to the next level, this is the place to be. East Coast Gym is the best gym in Virginia Beach with no doubt in my mind. As a competitive bodybuilder, I’ve trained all over, and nothing compares. It’s never crowded, and you never have to wait for a machine. Marvin, the owner, has 40+ years in the sport and is always there to help. Whenever I'm out of town, no matter where I lift, I still end up missing this gym. For the people who are serious about fitness, East Coast Gym has everything you need.
July 25 · Robert PyBeen going to this gym for many years. Have been a member since it was at the old location on Indian River rd. This is how I blow off steam and unwind. I come in and talk with a few people for a little bit then put my headphones in and get to work. Marvin, the owner is always welcoming to my kid on the rare occasion I need to bring them in with me. Plenty of weights which I like and lots of machines and cardio equipment if that is your thing. Open 24 hours which is great for me being as I like to workout late most nights. Also I can appreciate how clean it is compared to some other gyms I have trained at.
July 31 · Rick ShyI've been going to this gym for a while now, and I can honestly say it's one of the best-run facilities I've ever been a part of. The gym is immaculately clean, well-maintained, and the equipment is always in great shape. That’s all thanks to Marvin, the owner, who runs a tight ship and sets the tone for everything.Marvin is also my trainer, and hands down the best I’ve ever worked with. He’s right there with you—watching your form, pushing you to hit that last rep, and making sure you don’t just show up, but actually put in the work. He doesn’t let you slack, and that’s exactly what makes the difference. One thing I really appreciate: if you don’t re-rack your weights, Marvin will say something—and if it happens again, you’re locked out. No drama, just accountability. It creates an atmosphere of mutual respect that makes this gym stand out.Another huge plus: no tripods, no filming your workouts. I love that. It keeps the focus on training—not on social media—and I don’t have to worry about walking into someone’s video or navigating around camera setups. If you’re more into filming yourself than actually lifting, this isn’t the place for you. Try Planet Fitness. This gym is built on respect, discipline, and community. The people here look out for each other. Over time, they’ve become like a second family to me. If you're serious about training and want to be part of a real gym with real people and a world-class trainer, this is it.
