What is worth choosing Crunch Fitness?
Choosing a gym in the competitive San Mateo fitness market requires careful consideration of what a facility truly offers. Crunch Fitness, while having a well-known brand, has a mixed reputation among local users. The primary value proposition of Crunch is its comprehensive range of equipment and services. For someone looking for a one-stop-shop for their fitness needs—including cardio machines, strength equipment, and group classes—Crunch aims to provide that. The availability of amenities like towels is a nice touch, though potential members should be aware that these might not always be readily available during peak times. The pricing structure, with various membership tiers, can be a major draw for individuals and families looking for an affordable gym option. However, it is essential to be vigilant about membership costs and potential changes over time, as some members have reported unexpected price hikes. The gym’s layout, while providing a variety of equipment, has been noted as inefficient by some, with machines feeling cramped despite available space. The hours of operation, particularly on weekends, might also be a limiting factor for those with very restrictive schedules. Customer service and facility cleanliness have been areas of concern for some members, with feedback highlighting issues with staff responsiveness and the maintenance of shared spaces like showers. For someone in San Mateo, choosing Crunch Fitness is a decision to weigh the brand's established presence and wide range of equipment against the feedback regarding operational consistency and customer service. It may be a suitable option for those who prioritize a variety of equipment and a generally accessible location, provided they are prepared for the potential inconsistencies noted by other members in the local community.

Crunch Fitness Reviews
The hours are terrible, especially if you have kids and you need to squeeze the gym in when you can. Only being open to 10pm on Fridays and only until 8pm on the weekends is limiting. There are about two employees on the staff that are beyond pleasant, and then there’s a major drop off in customer service, where their phone screens have rendered them zombies. The equipment layout is terrible. Machines pinched in together when there is so much wasted space. Two different turfs on the top floor, that aren’t utilized enough to keep. There are not enough cables or benches during all hours. I’ve gone to this gym for 6+ months at 6am, another 4+ at 10am, and the last 6+ at 9pm, and the sporadic trends in traffic leave me confused on how this is not being addressed. The dumbbells don’t go too heavy on the weight, and when I’ve asked management/employees about heavier weights they just nod their heads in agreement, but not providing any solutions. The gym stinks, smell like mildew, which is probably coming from the turf. I gotta know how this is considered a “Signature” Crunch, because outside of the towels that are provided, the gym isn’t giving me anything else. Lastly, when I first signed up with my wife we were paying $110 for our two memberships, and she took a year break because of giving birth and recovery, and when she signed back up, I’m now paying $140 a month. When I questioned the GM who was signing her back up, he ignored my questions around pricing. I don’t feel good about this gym, and wouldn’t recommend it to anyone in the San Mateo area. The management and staff just seem complacent, as if they’ve been limited in their own roles and power, to the point they’ve just given up trying, and that’s why all they do is not there heads in appeasement, so that they can get around the slightly difficult obstacle of actually helping a customer.
June 28 · Shane IeansI’m giving this place 2 stars for three main reasons, which unfortunately seem to never improve:1. No towels during rush hours – This is unacceptable. I don’t care if it’s peak time; more than 60% of the times I’ve come in, there have been no towels available. Please stock more towels and have enough washing machines to keep up with demand. This is part of what we pay our maintenance fees for.2. Front desk staff not very helpful or friendly – It’s mostly the same two people, and they seem more focused on talking to each other than engaging with members or answering questions.3. Showers not always clean – The showers need to be cleaned more thoroughly and more often.Overall, there is a lot of room for improvement here, and I hope management takes these concerns seriously.
August 11 · Jon SoferTowels! This gym hoards towels like it's money. They only have towels available behind the front counter so you must ask the very annoyed (and rude) staff how many towels and what size everyday you come in. No other gym I have been to struggles so much with a basic service. More often then not there are no towels available. Keep the towels stocked in the locker rooms like a normal gym. Purchase more towels or have more laundry equipment if you can't keep up with the demand. This is the most frustrating experience about this location.
August 28 · John Smiththis review mostly pertains to the parking garage (upstairs & downstairs lair)had severe menstrual bleeding during my time parking a vehicle here. + nausea sometimes vomiting body aches fever chillsme thinks it’s the garage due to migraines starting while walking in and out ofuncanny how it all stopped when i no longer frequented.
