This studio, which specializes in the Ashtanga Mysore Program, is more than just a place to practice postures; it is a community-driven space dedicated to the authentic lineage of this powerful and meditative practice. Founded with the mission to rebuild and cultivate a strong Ashtanga community, the AYLA Collective offers a deeply personal and enriching experience for all who walk through its doors, from seasoned practitioners to those taking their first steps on the mat.
What sets AYLA Collective apart is its commitment to the Mysore-style of Ashtanga. In this unique format, students practice at their own pace in a group setting, with a teacher providing one-on-one guidance and adjustments. This method fosters self-discipline, body awareness, and a personal connection to the practice. The ambiance of the studio is described as simple and meditative, creating an environment where practitioners can easily "lock in with their innermost self." The collective is led by highly knowledgeable teachers who are not only experts in the Ashtanga method but also beautiful souls who genuinely care about their students' experiences, leading with a gentle and supportive approach.
This approach has led to a communal yet highly personal atmosphere where practitioners can connect to a "source of light" without obstacles. The deep passion and many years of experience of the teachers are evident in their instruction, making the studio an ideal place for both beginners and advanced practitioners to deepen their practice. Michelle and Jim have created a beautiful Ashtanga community. They both are highly knowledgeable teachers with many years of experience and deep passion for Ashtanga. I would highly recommend the Ashtanga program to everyone from new beginners to experienced practitioners.
December 18 · Els CoThe ambiance is very simple and meditative, instantly I was able to lock in with my inner most self. I focused on the tip of my nose during my time in the shala very easily. Michelle and Jim are beautiful souls who genuinely care about their students experiences. They lead gently and with great knowledge. It feels very communal and yet one can connect to the infinite source of light without obstacles.
November 30 · Jenelyse WoolerySo lovely to practice weekly with Jim and Michelle in Silver Lake. They have cultivated a very warm and inviting space for us. There is a nice blend of new and old practitioners which I appreciate. As an Asian American I feel honored to be able to practice with two Asian American teachers.
