Choosing a gym is a personal decision, and while many factors play a role, some stand out as particularly important. For residents of Chicago, especially in the West Chicago Avenue area, Anytime Fitness offers a few key reasons why it might be a great fit. The primary advantage is undoubtedly the 24/7 access. The flexibility to work out at 3 AM or 3 PM is a massive benefit that traditional gyms often can't match. This makes it easier to stay consistent with your fitness routine, regardless of your schedule. The on-site parking is another major convenience that reduces the stress of finding a spot in a bustling neighborhood.
On the other hand, some past members have raised valid points that are worth considering. Concerns have been noted regarding the billing process, with a third-party company handling payments, and some found the cancellation process to be complicated. Pricing transparency has also been mentioned as an issue for some. While the gym aims to provide a clean environment, some users have reported that cleanliness could be improved, especially during off-peak hours. The size of the free weight area has also been called out by some as being limited, and some have felt that the equipment is older and less maintained than they would like.
It's also worth noting the business model where the company, in this case, Anytime Fitness, sends out promotional offers to potential or past members. A former member noted a discrepancy in a '40% off' ad, finding that the actual cost was higher than what they had previously paid, which they felt was misleading. For this reason, it is always a good practice to inquire about the exact details of any offer before making a commitment.
Despite these points, many members have had positive experiences. The 24/7 availability remains a compelling feature for many, along with the generally convenient location and the presence of dedicated staff during peak hours. The overall experience appears to be a mixed bag, but the core services and the around-the-clock access are undeniable strengths. For a local in Illinois looking for a gym that fits into a demanding schedule, this location offers a solid foundation of services. It provides all the essentials for a comprehensive workout, from free weights to cardio machines and personalized training options. The best way to determine if it’s the right fit for you is to visit and see the facilities for yourself.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Was a member for a couple of years and generally had a good experience. Convenient location, nice employees, open 24hrs, most of their machines worked, and was only really packed during lunch and after work hours.Their third-party billing(which I know is normal for gyms), cleanliness, size, ads, and lack of transparency with pricing is the reason I gave up my membership. They bill you every two weeks(I was paying $27.50 or $55/month) instead of monthly for some reason and you have to call or email a different company to cancel the membership but they were so quick to collect my money to start. My schedule changed towards the end of my membership and I didn’t have the patience to go during peak hours and wait for equipment longer than actually working out.I had only ever seen someone cleaning during the busy times instead of before and after which meant trash cans were full and no more paper towels if you were there during “off hours”, and it smelled strongly of industrial sanitizer/cleaner if you were working out during this time frame- not the end of the world but so easy to plan for and remedy with the data they have access to.Lastly, AF(the company) emailed me a 40% off membership ad to rejoin and I called to ask about the rates and they are charging more than they were previously. They said it would be $80 to re-enroll, i would get 2 months free but the cost would be $60/ month if I signed up for a year…So before I paid $660 for a year and now they want me to pay $680(including the enrollment fee) for a year? …And they want to tell me it’s 40% off? The ad(included a screenshot) also says in bold, “last chance to save over $400”, a strange approach to try and get past members to come back by lying to them.
August 25 · Fred NoinajAvoid Anytime Fitness. Canceling is a nightmare, and they’ll still try to charge you extra. I was on the month to month to make it easier nope! The gym itself is tiny, smells bad, and isn’t well maintained it’s super dirty The free weight area is practically non existent, and most of the equipment is old and worn out. Overall, not worth the money. And for the staff not the brightest. Don’t be fool by the pictures it doesn’t look anything like it.
August 12 · Ricky DaVinciiI’m a member of Anytime fitness and come here all the time. The facility itself is fine but the bathrooms are something out of a SAW horror movie. Toilets are often clogged and I just walked in and one of the toilet seats is on the floor next to the toilet vile stuff not giving a one star because the employees work here are pretty chill, but overall this facility needs major help.
July 27 · Gavin DavisI usually reserve reviews for standout experiences—good or bad—but after this, I feel compelled to share. For the past nine months, this gym has been withdrawing money from my account for someone else’s membership. Not a billing error. Not a misunderstanding. Just taking my money. And while they were able to pull funds in seconds, getting my money back has been a slow, outdated mess. No apology (till I begged for a simple acknowledgement of how shitty this is), no interest, and no urgency—just a vague promise of a paper check in the mail that still hasn’t arrived. If any other business held your money for nine months, we wouldn’t call it a “refund”—we’d call it what it is: taking money that doesn’t belong to you. Now, the gym itself isn’t bad if you go before 5am or during the midday lull around 2–4pm. Any other time and it’s wall-to-wall, with equipment gridlock. I suggested a dynamic pricing model to encourage off-peak workouts and reduce crowding—something that could benefit both the gym and its members if they’re serious about experience design.I don’t write this out of bitterness—I write it in the hope someone in leadership will take it seriously. Because while the front desk team is great, the back office operations feel stuck in the Stone Age
April 13 · Ryan NewmanI've been a member of this gym for a while and it's been fine. By far the most crowded of any of the locations, I only have it as my home gym because the location is so convenient. I do like being able to access any of the other franchises when I can. It's usually clean enough but has gone through periods where that isn't the case. It could have better maintained machines or a better distribution thereof in my opinion. At one point both the stairmasters were broken with no ETA on repairs and eventually they were replaced with machines that are more annoying to use (in my experience the emergency stop button is very easy to accidentally hit with your knee). In fact, while I'm average height (5'7") a lot of the macines feel like they're designed for taller people (men?), but that may be an issue with gym equipment in general. Often I have to change my workout plan because there's too many people waiting for the equipment I wanted to use, but there's almost always something I can find to do.However, be warned if you want to make this your home gym. My main issue is with their third party billing service which you have to go through if you need to freeze and unfreeze your account, like I tried to do when I had surgery. You cannot simply talk to the front desk workers or email a gym employee. Instead you must email a third-party which seems to be staffed by AI or people who don't know much English. I clearly stated the day I wanted the freeze to begin; they started it two days later so I was charged for an extra billing cycle while I was in the hospital. I clearly stated the number of weeks I wanted the freeze to last; they froze it for twice that. It's even been a nightmare trying to unfreeze "early", to the point where I'm just making do at home rather than continue to deal with it. Honestly that's made me realize I don't need this overcrowded gym that badly and have begun looking into other options.
