★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I originally signed up for AMP in 2019 and have seen an incredible improvement in my fitness. They have recently moved locations to 14th and Olympic in Santa Monica (originally on 19th and Olympic) and the additional space is superb! You have an indoor area where most of the workouts take place, locker rooms with showers and an outside area with picnic benches, coffee shop, sauna, cold plunge and even more workout equipment (if you like to get your tan on while training).AMP is great for people at any level of fitness because they offer many different types of classes and a very flexible schedule. Personally, my favorite is the Hybrid class where you first have a Strength portion either working squats, deadlifts, push press, bench etc., followed by a WOD which is usually a pretty intense workout that may incorporate some lift like thrusters, snatches, power cleans, STOH and cardio on the machines (row, ski erg, bike erg, echo bike), jump rope, box jumps or a run. But, if you’re not into that style, they also have a Strength class, Open Gym, Olympic Lifting, and various workshops, like a Mobility class for example. There’s workouts every day of the week. Monday-Friday starting at 5am going to 7pm usually, and Saturdays and Sundays starting at 8am. They also have special events that could be fundraisers for charity, beach workouts or their annual AMP Invitational.Above all, the best part about AMP is the community – the owners, coaches and members. Alex and Ahnna started the gym in 2018, participate in workouts, encourage you when you’re struggling and give you specific tips on areas for improvement. Recently, I was experiencing a bit of discomfort in my elbow area and Ahnna told me that could be due to tight lats and showed me some stretches which has been helping. The coaches, Jake, Leah, Nick, Sarah, Danny, Amanda, Nadya, Nikita, Gus, Juvie, Zack are awesome people, very knowledgeable, they break down each movement, can help you modify a specific activity, keep an eye on each member during the workout and are also very encouraging to keep going the WODs. The members are incredibly awesome, very supportive, help each other out, pick up the weights/barbells, reset the gym before the next class and you can expect a high-five, fist-bump after going through the wringer together. I’d consider many of them friends. If you’ve been thinking about trying something new or already familiar with Crossfit and want to check it out AMP – you will not be disappointed!
October 23 · Sebastian UrtizI joined AMP at the end of December 2023. I had moved from London in July, leaving such a strong CrossFit community in which I was entrenched. For 6 months I have tried different places, yet did not find a community nor a good programming until I came across AMP. I had lost a lot of my fitness / strength over those 6 months; but the way I was welcomed into the AMP community has helped me get back on track and not get discouraged as I was/still am trying to rebuild my fitness/strength levels! The love/care/energy Alex, Ahnna, and all the coaches put into the space and community are unmatched! I’m so happy to be part of the community and see it expand and grow even more! Wherever you are in your fitness journey, you’ll find your spot at AMP!
July 15 · Yousra El AlaouiI highly recommend AMP. I have been a member for just over a year, and it took a minute to find the right program, schedule, and community that worked for me. Now, I have found a place where I feel motivated, supported, and challenged. A few hours a week, I get to shut out the noise and focus on something simple (but intense) like knocking out 100 burpees. While I know not everyone has had the same experience, I still encourage people to give AMP a try. We all have different fitness goals and preferences, and AMP offers a wide range of class types (strength, hybrid, cardio, and flexibility) so there likely will be something that fits your needs. As for the community, like anywhere, you will meet some coaches and members you really click with and others you probably wouldn’t grab drink with. That’s just part of the experience. The gym offers a free trial week, so you can see if it’s a good fit for you. If it is, great. And if not, no hard feelings.Bottom line: try it out for yourself.
July 27 · Ming ChuangI’ve been a member of amp association for over a year now and it has been the best decision I’ve ever made! I moved to LA a year prior and found it hard to meet new people. Once I moved closer to Santa Monica, I searched for gyms that had a welcoming atmosphere, community building events, top tier coaching, accountability and I’ve found all those things in amp. The owners Alex and Ahnna also make it a point to know every member that joins the gym, making it feel like family. If you’re looking for a place to push yourself physically and build new friendships, this is the place for you!
July 14 · Jillian FarrenJoining AMP Association has been a game-changer for me. After a few trial classes, I proudly signed on as a full-time member. AMP Association is so much more than just a gym; it’s a community filled with amazing people who make the experience truly special. As a soccer player and marathon runner, jumping back into strength training has been incredibly beneficial. Since joining, I've continued to break personal records in all my race times. If you're looking for a competitive yet supportive and motivating environment to achieve your fitness goals, I highly recommend AMP Association!
