For individuals across California prioritizing their health, mindfulness, and physical strength, finding a truly authentic and community-focused yoga studio can be transformative. The Yoga Shala SF - Balboa St, located in the vibrant Richmond District of San Francisco, is an exceptional destination that provides a deeply rooted and invigorating yoga experience. The term "Shala," which means 'home' or 'school' in Sanskrit, perfectly encapsulates the studio’s mission: to be a community gathering space where practitioners of all levels can come to learn, deepen their practice, and create a powerful separation from the pressures of daily life.
This studio specializes in a form of yoga that is both athletic and accessible. The primary focus is on heated Vinyasa Power Yoga, an energetic and vigorous practice that builds strength, flexibility, and endurance. However, the atmosphere remains encouraging and personalized. Unlike large, impersonal fitness centers, The Yoga Shala SF prides itself on a strong sense of community and instructors who genuinely work with each student on an individual level. Whether you are a seasoned yogi or someone trying a pose for the first time, you will find clear guidance on progressions and modifications.
The environment is meticulously curated to be warm and welcoming. While classes are heated to enhance flexibility and promote detoxification, clients have the option to choose where in the studio they practice—a thoughtful detail that allows for personalized comfort. This blend of physically challenging practice, individualized attention, and a strong, supportive local community makes The Yoga Shala SF - Balboa St a highly recommended choice for those in the Bay Area seeking transformation on and off the mat.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1We absolutely love this place, my whole family goes to the Yoga Shala! The instructors are great and there is a real sense of community among those who attend. Each class is different and as intense as you want it to be. The instructors really work with everyone on an individual level. I feel like I learn or try something new every time I go. Highly, highly recommend!
September 02 · Michael CrehanThis is a great studio! I decided to try it out because I live so close. Every instructor I've had so far has been a gem (this is coming from a not-really-yoga person). Classes are warm but not too hot, and you can pick a more or less warm section of the studio, depending on your preference. Also, the practice here is fairly athletic and vigorous, which is something I also like. They clearly walk you through all the pose progressions. I also like that some of the instructors encourage you to introduce yourself to others around you to make connections
February 27 · Nina IvanovaLove this new hot yoga spot. Great instructors and a beautiful space! The classes are challenging and rewarding.
December 12 · Ellen LomonicoSo happy there’s a new Shala in town! Brittany (the owner) has brought the magic of the Sunset location across the park and I’m so excited to practice at this studio. There are a variety of yoga classes and all fitness and ability levels are welcome. I love how welcoming and community oriented the yogis at TYS classes are. 💛The heaters are great (especially during this cold winter) and the Balboa classes aren’t as hot as classes at the Sunset location!
January 05 · Karenna HuntI’ve been going to the Yoga Shala in the Inner Sunset for two years and am thrilled they’ve opened a studio in the Richmond, my neighborhood! The teachers consistently offer strong vinyasa flows, and Brittany and the team create a warm, welcoming vibe that makes you feel you belong, no matter your fitness level. The new space is great, and I’m excited to see the Yoga Shala community grow in the Richmond—I’ll definitely be part of it. Highly recommend!
