The Pound Gym Introduce
For residents in Scottsdale, Arizona, and the surrounding areas, finding a fitness community that is both challenging and supportive can be a game-changer for their health journey. The Pound Gym stands as a unique and highly-regarded facility, specializing in boxing and group fitness. It’s a place where individuals of all ages and fitness levels can come to improve their physical health, learn valuable skills, and become part of a welcoming community. This is not just a boxing gym for competitive fighters; it is a space for everyone, from former master's boxers to individuals looking to boost their cardiac health and coordination. The atmosphere is consistently praised for being motivating, safe, and positive, which is a key reason why so many locals have made it their go-to fitness destination.
A significant part of the positive experience at The Pound Gym is the quality of the trainers. Duane, one of the leading coaches, is a cornerstone of the gym’s success. He is highly respected for his patience, expertise, and encouraging demeanor. One customer, a 67-year-old retired USA Master's Boxer and personal trainer, specifically highlighted Duane’s approach, stating that he would "NEVER yell or belittle anybody." This is a powerful testament to the gym's philosophy of positive reinforcement and respect for every member's journey. Duane's ability to work with a wide range of clients, from "disabled to athletic competitive athletes," shows his versatility and genuine passion for helping people improve. His sessions are described as a perfect blend of boxing fundamentals, agility drills, and bag/mitt work, ensuring a comprehensive and effective workout.
The gym’s appeal extends beyond just the training itself. For many, The Pound Gym offers a unique solution to their fitness needs. One member, who recently renewed their membership, was specifically looking for a way to improve their "cardiac health, work hand-eye coordination and balance, and sharpen agility/reflexes." They were concerned that their lack of interest in contact sparring would be a barrier, but found that this was "no issue here." The gym's focus on non-contact training, which is built on boxing fundamentals, is a huge draw for those who want the benefits of the sport without the risks of sparring. This approach provides a "killer workout" that builds strength, cardio endurance, and skills in a safe environment.
The community aspect of The Pound Gym is another major highlight. Members consistently describe the other people there as "fantastic," always ready to offer pointers and tips. This supportive network creates a welcoming environment where everyone feels like they belong, which is often a crucial factor in maintaining a consistent fitness routine. The trainers, including Maddie, who also receives high praise, foster a "no bull approach that still meets anyone where they're at." This balance of being straightforward and accommodating ensures that members are always challenged but never overwhelmed. The variety in the sessions means that no two workouts are the same, preventing "routine fatigue" and keeping members engaged and motivated to "be better the next time I walk in."

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I was a member at The Pound until it was time for my knee replacements.I'm a 67 yr old retired USA Master's Boxer, personal trainer, and coach.I loved going to The Pound because I could train and do my own thing without being bothered by anybody.I've watched the trainers and even took some sessions with Duane along with a couple of classes. You can pretty much be at any level, and it's a great gym and atmosphere.Watching Duane MANY times with clients would NEVER yell or belittle anybody! I have a ton of experience with clients of all types. Being semi retired, trust me that I know how to work with people of ALL types. From disabled to athletic competitive athletes.Duane is a very good trainer and is patient with his members/clients.AND when I recover from knee replacements:"I'LL BE BACK"
November 10 · Ramsey AbdinJust renewed my membership after trying out one month - having an absolute blast.I was looking for something to boost my cardiac health, work hand-eye coordination and balance, and sharpen agility/reflexes. Boxing fits that bill, but I'm not interested in contact sparring. I thought that would be a barrier to me giving it a try, but that's no issue here.Duane's sessions are a perfect blend of boxing fundamentals, agility drills, bag/mitt work, and everything between. Plus, it's just a good old fashioned killer workout. My shoulders are getting stronger, my cardio endurance is increasing, and I learn new things every session.Couldn't have asked for a better coach (Maddie's classes are a hit too!) with a straight forward, no bull approach that still meets anyone where they're at. No session is the same, but each one bleeds into the other. All the other members are fantastic too, always ready to give pointers and tips. All I can say is I walk away from every session sweaty, in a great mood, and actively thinking of the ways I can be better the next time I walk in. What else could you ask for?
March 12 · Nicolas CochranI see some reviews that have given the gym 1 star and I believe these are personal attacks from bitter people or competitors. The gym is immaculate. Please see the pictures I provided or stop in and see for yourself. I think they have several world champion trainers and the facility is the nicest gym I have seen in Scottsdale. The classes are busy but not over packed and the instructors really know what they are doing. I wouldn't believe people who leave one star reviews for almost every business they review, seems like hate speech to me! Enjoy The Pound!
August 20 · Ashley orrI spend most of my time on the East Coast and go to an outstanding boxing gym there. I have been searching for a similar high-caliber boxing gym in Scottsdale, where we spend about 1/4 of our year. Unfortunately, the vast majority of boxing gyms here focus on "boxercise," which, if that's what you're looking for, is great. However, I like to focus on boxing technique and improve my overall boxing capabilities. I found that The Pound is the only place in this area that fits that bill. Duane is knowledgeable and experienced, and like my gym back home, spends time on technique as well as getting a great workout. My philosophy is why not learn proper technique as well as get a great workout. I highly recommend The Pound.
October 09 · J GCame here after my last gym closed. I was looking to improve my technique and refine my boxing skills. Duane is the real deal. It didn't take too many classes to improve my form, conditioning, and expand my boxing knowledge. I wanted a place where boxing was taken seriously, and Duane and Rashod create a training environment that I'm always excited to return to.
