What is worth choosing?
TFTC Academy presents a compelling option for those in the North Carolina region seeking a martial arts school. For many, the decision comes down to the quality of instruction, the environment, and the value for their investment. The academy is clearly praised for its professional and clean facilities, as well as its welcoming and inviting atmosphere. Many parents, like one reviewer with over 15 years of martial arts experience, highly recommend the school, noting that it provides exactly what they would expect from a top-tier martial arts academy. This positive feedback, especially concerning the children's programs, highlights the academy's success in creating a positive and nurturing environment where students, young and old, can thrive.
However, it is also important to consider some of the challenges that have been raised by a few members, particularly beginners. One reviewer expressed significant concerns about the level of instruction and safety for new students. They mentioned feeling that proper techniques were not adequately explained, leading to confusion and, in some cases, hard slams and unnecessary hits. The inconsistent feedback and dismissive responses from instructors were also cited as frustrating and potentially unsafe. This feedback, while not universal, is a crucial point for prospective students to consider, especially if they are new to martial arts and prioritize a step-by-step, safety-first approach to learning.
Ultimately, the choice to join TFTC Academy depends on what a person is looking for. For those who are more experienced or who thrive in a fast-paced, challenging environment where they are expected to be proactive about their learning, the academy might be a perfect fit. The strong sense of community, the variety of classes offered, and the high-quality facilities are definite plusses. For parents, the positive reviews about the children's programs and the welcoming environment can be very reassuring. However, for a brand-new beginner, it may be worth taking a trial class and openly communicating with the instructors about their concerns to ensure the teaching style aligns with their learning preferences and safety expectations. The academy's commitment to a professional, clean space and a membership-based structure makes it a serious contender for anyone in the Clayton area looking to start or continue their martial arts journey.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I wouldn’t recommend this place. They expected me and other beginners to know a lot of things without properly explaining them. For instance, I had to go out of my way to ask how to perform certain techniques safely to avoid getting hurt. They have you quickly sign a liability waiver but don’t put much effort into ensuring your safety afterward. As a beginner, I ended up taking some hard slams in jiu-jitsu and unnecessary punches in kickboxing because I wasn’t properly taught how to handle those situations. When I asked for clarification, their response was dismissive, like, “Duh, you’re supposed to-,” even though they hadn’t explained it beforehand.Another issue is their inconsistent feedback. They’ll tell you to perform a move a certain way, tell you you’re doing it right and then, within the next minute, tell you you’re doing it wrong. This happened multiple times, which made learning frustrating and confusing. They don’t do what they should in order to ensure your safety, you’ll end up getting head injuries and brain damage.
May 19 · LamarMy son started attending here about a month ago. He really loves and enjoys this school, teachers and students. My youngest daughter also joined this past week. She has fallen in love with it as well. Having over 15 years of martial arts training myself, and visiting numerous schools, this school is very welcoming, inviting, clean and professional. It is exactly what I would expect and is highly recommended.
October 13 · brian paveyWent there for a few months when ever i was first starting bjj now as a far more experienced martial artist and fighter who has trained at many different gyms this was extremely underwhelming. In the the time i spent here there was a very small amount of classes in comparison to the price the gym was always dirty and classes were extremely overcrowded as a beginner I barely had a grasp of the basics and just got thrown into random techniques without understanding much i got the chance to roll with a brown belt who just sandbagged me continuously overall very poor experience and very overpriced for whats being offered
September 23 · Trent ManessAn amazing place to learn BJJ and Kickboxing. They’re really family friendly, engaging, and love working with the kids. They have lots of patience and will work with you. There’s truly a family here. What are you waiting for? Sign up!
October 06 · Ezekiel MendezI am experienced at training martial arts. This gym is solid, top shelf, and as good as other competition gyms. They are very good. There was an emphasis on safety, but it didn't impact normal rolling.
