This central location makes it easily accessible for residents of Millburn, Summit, Maplewood, and other nearby towns. The studio is nestled within a vibrant part of the community, making it simple to incorporate a workout into your daily routine. Accessibility is a key consideration for any fitness center, and SLT Short Hills provides some important accommodations. The location features a wheelchair-accessible parking lot, which ensures convenience for all clients. Additionally, a wheelchair-accessible restroom is available within the facility. This attention to accessibility demonstrates a commitment to creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for a diverse clientele. The ease of getting to and from the studio is a significant advantage, allowing you to focus on your workout without the added stress of a difficult commute or finding a parking spot.
The services offered at SLT Short Hills are focused on their signature workout methodology. The studio specializes in classes that utilize the Megaformer, a unique piece of equipment that is central to their exercise philosophy. The core services include:
Megaformer Classes: The primary service is the challenging and effective group class format. These classes are designed to provide a full-body workout that strengthens, lengthens, and tones muscles. The exercises are performed slowly and with controlled movements, focusing on core strength, muscular endurance, and flexibility. The intensity of the workout is designed to leave your muscles "shaking" and feeling the burn, as described by a satisfied client.
Instructor-Led Sessions: The classes are always guided by an instructor who demonstrates the moves and provides verbal cues. As customer reviews suggest, the quality of this experience can vary greatly depending on the instructor. An excellent instructor, like Alexandra, is praised for clearly explaining the purpose of each movement, making the workout "intentional" and easy to follow for both beginners and veterans. This guidance is crucial for proper form and maximizing results.
Personalized Guidance: While classes are conducted in a group setting, a good instructor will provide individual corrections and encouragement. The most positive experiences are often characterized by instructors who are patient, clear, and helpful, ensuring that clients are performing the exercises correctly and safely. A negative review highlights the importance of this, noting that a "gruff" instructor who pokes without explanation can be a frustrating experience, especially for newcomers.
SLT Short Hills has several key features and highlights that set it apart from a traditional gym setting. These features are integral to the boutique studio experience and its unique approach to fitness. Here are some of the notable highlights:
Specialized Workout Equipment: The Megaformer is the cornerstone of the studio. This machine allows for a dynamic range of movements that target every muscle group. The exercises are low-impact, making them a great option for people who may have joint issues or are looking for an alternative to high-impact activities like running.
Focus on Form and Precision: The workout emphasizes slow, controlled movements to activate muscles deeply. A skilled instructor is critical to this process, and as one reviewer pointed out, the right teacher makes a world of difference by ensuring you never feel "lost." This focus on precision means that even though the workout is challenging, it is also highly effective when done correctly.
Clean and Maintained Facilities: The studio provides a clean restroom and a well-kept environment. While the amenities are not as extensive as a large-scale gym, the focus is on providing a clean, functional, and pleasant space for the classes.
Flexible Scheduling and Appointments: SLT Short Hills recommends that clients book their classes in advance. This approach helps the studio manage class sizes and ensures that every participant has a spot. Appointments are highly recommended, which speaks to the personalized and structured nature of their group classes.
Payment Flexibility: The studio accepts both credit cards and debit cards for payments, providing convenience for clients. This straightforward payment process makes it easy to book and pay for your classes.
Instructor Quality Varies: It is important for potential clients to note that, as with any fitness studio, the instructor can make or break the experience. The reviews provided highlight this duality, showcasing both highly positive and negative experiences. This suggests that exploring different instructors, such as the highly recommended Alexandra, might be beneficial for new clients to find the right fit for their personal needs.

For those in New Jersey who are looking for a fitness studio that offers a unique and highly effective workout, SLT Short Hills is a strong contender. The key differentiator is the Megaformer workout, which provides a challenging, low-impact session that is designed to sculpt and tone the body. While the experiences of clients can vary based on the instructor, the positive reviews, particularly for instructors like Alexandra, demonstrate that the studio has the potential to provide a transformative and empowering workout. Her ability to explain the moves and their purpose makes the workout both effective and easy to follow. This is crucial for beginners who might otherwise feel "lost," as noted in other feedback. Choosing SLT means you are opting for a specialized boutique experience rather than a large, all-purpose gym. The focus is on a single, powerful workout method, guided by knowledgeable professionals. It’s a great choice for individuals who are tired of their regular gym routine and are seeking something new that promises tangible results. Just be sure to read reviews or ask for recommendations to find an instructor who aligns with your learning style and goals, ensuring your experience is as positive and effective as possible.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Do not recommend Farah’s class as a beginner at SLT. I’ve done Pilates for months now and even took one other Lagree class and a Solidcore class prior, and I felt this class was harder to follow. For an “all levels” class, Farah shows little patience and is rather gruff when correcting you. Even the reception person advised me , “you’ll be totally lost, but that’s okay, just look to others and copy them.” How is that “all levels” ? A good instructor for an “all levels” should be relatively easy to follow without having to constantly look to others. She also did little to demonstrate the moves. I have another class with a different instructor booked in the hopes it wasn’t a good fit the instructor, but I’m not optimistic in light of the receptionist’s warning. So far, very disappointed. Solidcore is a tougher workout, but was much easier to follow.Updated 6/6: highly recommend Alexandra for beginners and veterans alike. It was a challenging work out but I never felt lost. She explained what each movement was targeting and everything felt very intentional. My muscles are still shaking, and I feel empowered to take on my day.The right instructor makes all the difference! I bumped up a star due to Alexandra.
July 06 · Sabrina DavThe instructor was rude, inconsiderate and pretentious. She didn’t care about truly instructing me. She didn’t clearly explain the transitions for someone who had only taken this class once before years ago. She would poke at me to place my body in the “correct way” with no explanation. She was rude as soon as I walked in. I wanted to leave five minutes into the class but decided not too because I paid for it. I would never suggest this studio or instructor to any of my friends and family. I work out 6x a week and was hoping to find something new to add to my workouts but after the experience with this terrible instructor I WILL NEVER GO TO THIS STUDIO AGAIN! Stick to Solidcore people! They are nice to clients and explain the exercises and transitions without attitude!
February 24 · Nichol CarterNew to SLT but come from Pilates world. So thankful to Lucy for her assistance and encouragement. Great instructor!
June 19 · Robin NapoliI'm never one to post a brutally honest review, but after my experience with Farrah today I felt the need.I've never done megaformer before. I'm a reformer Pilates instructor and was curious to see what the difference would be. The girl at the front desk showed us how to use the megaformer and it was useful to know the terminology. But when the instructor, Farrah, began teaching I was instantly turned off from the get go. The way she spoke to myself and my friend who went to the class with me was extremely discouraging. We are trying our best here in a new environment and spoke to me like I was clueless and her cues were demoralizing, to the point where I said to her I'm trying my best here (I dont believe she heard me). I ended up getting the hang of it towards the end but it was hard to hear her over the terrible microphone quality and loud music. Thank god for the woman next to me who let me follow her. At the end of class I wanted to get out of there as soon as I could but encouraged us to take the beginner class, which was comical considering the class we took was an "all levels" class. overall it was a great workout and I know I'll be feeling this tomorrow, but I would never recommend taking a class with her. If anything, it showed me what I DON'T want to do in my classes I teach.
October 06 · Elana KirschnerI absolutely love SLT short hills. The classes are incredible no matter what instructor I've had and the workout is amazing. The staff are always so kind and helpful.
