What is Worth Choosing
Choosing SB Gymnastics is worthwhile for California families looking for a gymnastics center with an unparalleled dedication to the sport's highest standards. However, prospective members should evaluate their needs based on the program level:
**For the Competitive and Motivated Athlete:** The value is immense. Athletes benefit from the expertise of world-class coaches and the daily opportunity to train in the same dedicated facility used by one of the nation’s top collegiate programs. This immersion in an elite environment, designed for high-performance training, is a rare and powerful motivator for achieving personal bests and advancing to higher levels (Level 3 and above). The focus here is clearly on long-term athletic development and excellence.
**For the Beginner/Recreational Athlete:** The choice requires careful consideration. While the facility is beautiful, and the coaches are friendly, feedback suggests that younger, beginner classes may face challenges with overcrowding and space-sharing. Reviews indicate that 'the little kids are blocked access to equipment' and often spend up to '90% of their time waiting' due to the need to accommodate larger, higher-level groups in the shared space. Parents enrolling young children (who may require smaller class sizes and more hands-on time) should inquire specifically about the current class-to-coach ratio, the availability of dedicated beginner space, and the structure of activities to ensure the class time is used effectively. It is a victim of its own success, balancing elite training with local recreational demand.
Ultimately, SB Gymnastics is a premier destination for serious competitive development in the California area, leveraging the facilities and expertise of a top-tier athletic program. For families seeking this elite inspiration, especially for older or more committed children, this center is an exceptional choice. For very young beginners, it is recommended that parents verify that the current class structure aligns with their expectations for active learning time.

SB Gymnastics Reviews
Beginner level gymnastics is a weekly gamble. The little kids are blocked access to equipment by every other gymnastics class up to high school/college level - they all share the same space at the same time. So if the little kids are scheduled to learn a piece of equipment, but competitive gymnastics decides to use it (unscheduled) then the little kids have to move away to something else. Sometimes this works out if the gym is relatively quiet and other equipment is available, but sometimes the gym is very busy and the beginners are left with nothing much to do. That's a waste of everyone's time and money, and limiting for the instructors. There are 8 kids in a class with one instructor, and since the kids have to go one by one on any equipment (the floor is always monopolised by older groups), on days when all the students are present, they spend a lot of time waiting - like up to 90% of their time waiting. On the positive side, the boys seem to be inspired by watching the "big boys" in the same space. And the experience may be better for competitive gym (level 3 or higher). But overall, there are better options out there for young kids.
December 06 · Tamsin MaxwellThis is a review of the beginning boys group class. The facility is beautiful, the instructor is friendly, but so far most of what the boys are doing is sitting waiting. There are 9 in the class and 8 of them sit while 1 is assisted on the equipment. So about 5 minutes of activity in an hour class. The good news is - I see the older boys who are in the gym at the same time, and they clearly have some good skillz. But I gotta wonder if they started somewhere else, or if perhaps this beginning class is a victim of its own success and is now too large to be effective?
