August 02 · Tiffany BerryRooted in Flow Yoga is everything you want in a yoga studio. From beginner to advanced, you'll find a practice for you (or several) in a judgment free and frankly beautiful environment. Every teacher is warm and welcoming, and they each bring a unique voice to practice. There is no pressure to go beyond what your body is capable of; just gentle guidance + encouragement, with reminders that we're all uniquely built and that there is no such thing as a 'correct' way when it comes to yoga. Modifications are always offered, and the pace is what you want it to be.The atmosphere is light, fun, and engaging. The studio itself is breathtaking, with a high and ornately decorated ceiling, cozy fireplaces, and lush live plants in an otherwise minimalist setting. Perfect for clearing the mind and settling into practice. No matter where you are on the age, gender, income, or experience spectrums, you will find great enjoyment, fulfillment, and a deep sense of community at Rooted in Flow.
November 06 · Melanie Ihde FlynnThe elevator doors open to reveal something unexpected: a soaring ballroom where ornate tin ceilings catch the afternoon light streaming through tall arched windows. Gas fireplaces flicker at either end of the room. This is yoga class?Welcome to Rooted in Flow Yoga, perched on the third floor of a meticulously restored 1800s Federal building in downtown Berwick. Here, where tannery workers once labored, practitioners now flow through sun salutations beneath original architectural details that would make preservation societies swoon.Katherine West, the studio's founder, greets students with the warmth of someone who's traveled the world—which she has. Armed with a Master's in Social Work and experience spanning 40 countries, West returned to her native Maine with a vision: creating "something more grounded and restorative" than her previous work in refugee education and global advocacy. The transformation shows. What could feel intimidating—yoga in a grand ballroom—instead feels welcoming. West's trauma-informed approach creates what students describe as "an empathic, supportive container for healing," evident in how she adjusts poses for different bodies and encourages modifications without judgment. The space itself tells stories. The building's Federal architecture speaks to early 19th-century prosperity, while its current incarnation as a wellness hub represents downtown Berwick's thoughtful revitalization. Full elevator access and wheelchair-accessible bathrooms ensure the historic grandeur remains available to all.Classes range from energetic vinyasa flows to restorative sessions, but the real draw is the atmosphere. During a recent evening class, as the tin ceiling reflected candlelight and snow fell past the windows, it felt more like yoga in a palace than a small Maine town. The studio's "yoga is for EVERYBODY!" philosophy isn't just posted on walls—it's practiced, with offerings spanning from vigorous movement to gentle meditation. The building houses more than yoga. Downstairs, you'll find Truth Custom Tattoo, Beau Henry Farm Stand, and HYGGE on MAINE coffeebar, creating a destination that keeps visitors lingering. It's the kind of thoughtful mixed-use development that other small towns should study.West's programming extends beyond traditional yoga into breathwork, sound therapy, and even shamanic dreamwork circles—offerings that might seem ambitious for rural Maine but feel perfectly natural in this space. The monthly workshops and seasonal celebrations create community rituals that bind practitioners together. After class, walking back through downtown Berwick—population 7,500—the studio's impact becomes clear. This isn't just a yoga studio; it's an anchor for community development, the kind of business that makes small towns worth visiting. The details matter here: Classes cost $18 for drop-ins, with unlimited monthly memberships at $129. The studio offers teacher training intensives and workshops that draw practitioners from across New England. Parking is free and plentiful—a small-town luxury that I city yogis will appreciate. For travelers seeking something beyond typical tourist experiences, Rooted in Flow offers authentic community connection wrapped in architectural splendor. West's background brings clinical understanding to yoga instruction, creating what feels less like mindless group fitness and more like group therapy with incredible views.Whether you're an architecture enthusiast drawn to perfectly preserved historical details, a yoga devotee seeking skilled instruction, or simply someone curious about how small Maine towns are reinventing themselves, this ballroom studio delivers something real nice: beauty, community, and transformation under one spectacular tin roof.

October 25 · A CassThis is a wonderful yoga studio. It has beautiful natural light in a large space. The teachers are welcoming and all levels and abilities of practice can find a class here. Though I've been practicing for over a decade, I really love the non judgemental feel this studio has. It is great for those who are new to the practice and those who just want to give yoga a try.
