★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1This gym has truly become a second home to me, and I’m happy to say that it's improved significantly in the past few months. The morning front desk staff continue to be fantastic—always welcoming and friendly. The early morning regulars remain one of the best aspects of this gym. The camaraderie and motivation from this community make a huge difference. Whether I need a spotter, workout advice, or just a good conversation, I can always count on them. The shared fitness goals and positive atmosphere here are something special. One of the biggest recent improvements has been the addition of much needed equipment. The gym now has a hack squat machine, a pendulum squat, and a hip thrust machine and it’s so much better for it. These additions have filled a major gap, making leg days far more effective. The gym has definitely stepped up its game, and I really appreciate the upgrades.Another noticeable improvement has been cleanliness. Ever since the Hyland Boulevard Retro closed, this location has stepped up in a big way. There’s now daily cleaning while I’m there, and the gym feels much fresher and more maintained. It’s a huge difference and really adds to the overall experience. That said, one lingering issue is the middle greenspace area, which still tends to get cluttered and crowded at times. A bit of reorganization here would make it more functional for multiple people. And while this isn’t the gym’s fault, some members still don’t re-rack their weights, which is frustrating. Also, during lunchtime, the gym gets extremely crowded, and some of the younger crowd seems more focused on texting than working out, leading to equipment being hogged. A little more gym etiquette would go a long way. They offer daily classes throughout the week, though you’ll need to check their social media or the signs in the gym for schedulesThis gym has really transformed into a fantastic place to train. The new equipment, improved cleanliness, and strong morning community make it an even better experience than before. I look forward to coming here every day, and I’m excited to see it continue to improve!
February 26 · SeanThis gym is a disgrace. There are plates, ropes, dumbbells thrown all around the floor, you can barely walk in certain sections. It’s a mess. The machines are straight up on top of each other. You would be uncomfortably close to someone else if you were on any of the machines on the turf. You can’t even have a proper workout. This gym is way too small for the amount of machines they want to shove in here and way too small for it to be this unkept.
January 07 · Ava NI’ve been a member at Retro Fitness Staten Island for over 7 years, and while I’ve generally enjoyed the facility, I’m becoming increasingly concerned about safety in the parking lot. On more than one occasion, I’ve noticed a male member (short, bald) appearing to linger or walk behind women as they leave. Multiple women have switched their schedules to avoid this individual . My partner has also switched her schedule due to feeling uncomfortable. While I understand that not all behavior is easily addressed, the pattern has felt uncomfortable enough that I and others reported it to gym staff. I sincerely hope management continues to monitor and take member safety seriously. Safety — especially in the parking area — should be a top priority for any gym.
April 23 · Edwin MansourThere was an ruckus early this morning. I was in the shower and I heard someone yelling and screaming about there is no showers available. First of all who the hell does he think he is those are public showers. There aren't assigned to no one in particular. And then when I had gotten out or the shower he was in the other shower. Craziness the owner needs to pay more attention to what's going on there. The owner should install cameras there. Because in a court of law the person that was yelling and screaming is totally wrong. Hey Mister wait your turn. What went on today isn't good. And you lost me as customer. I go there to workout not to deal with emotionally disturbed people. Who knows it might be roid rage, it might be he had an argument with his wife, girlfriend, children, or whatever the problem. And he brings his problems to the gym. And anyone reading this bring your phone into the shower with you and if its not water resistant keep it by the inside door on a small tripod video recording if anyone on the other side of the shower door is yelling and screaming about what I messaged above. And show the person at the front desk. This will not be tolerated police will be notified. Suppose if that crazy person had opened the shower door what would of have happened? That's something for all of us to think about. I think the person is in the Con Edison vehicle the one who comes early in the mornings on the weekdays 4:00 am. Is he even supposed to be there? I hope that the owner has someone at the front desk to check people in to make sure that they are supposed to be there. Because anyone can walk in and safety should be the first priority. This particular location has gotten negative reviews on certain weirdos going there. I hope that the gym management will be more cautious on what's going on and take the appropriate action.
May 27 · Jamesim going to get right to the chase.this is a decent gym for the money they charge.it has the bare minimun of what a gym should have.the one complaint i do have that they really cant change is that it is way to small for all the stuff they pack in there and is most of the time unorganzied.the fact that they have certain machines less then 3 feet away from each other is a scary sight because god forbid someone unloading a bar makes a mistake and the bar tilts.there will be times im working on incline dumbell bench and there is somone doing a diffrent workout next to me and our dumbless are about to hit.whats even more scary is that there are only 3/4 adjustable bench's thats how small it really is.Another thing is , there never fixing issues.it seems the roof is always leaking when it rains. I have been coming here for 4 years and the same leak next to the middle bench has been there since i got there.it can be unorganized at times but for the most part only the middle section is un organized. Also the fact that this gym has only one/ two racks is horrible. There are some cardio machines that people don't even touch that can be replaced with another rack. The employees however are very nice and are there to help you if needed.if you are just trying to stay fit and mainly focus on cardio and little bit of weights this is the gym for you. If you are new to the gym and trying to get into weight lifting this gym is a great start. Although if you arent new to the gym and not trying to wait 5-10 mins for some machines i wouldn't go here.another gym i would prefer but is a little more expensive is intox(any of the locations are great)it is 45 monthly and some of the best gyms on the island.
