★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I’ve been going to this gym for three years, and I keep coming back because it’s the only gym in the area that offers Les Mills classes. The instructors are fantastic—they genuinely make an effort to encourage everyone, regardless of age or ability, and they take the time to learn everyone’s names, which makes the atmosphere feel really welcoming. I love that there is a class offered every day and have lost weight and gained muscle thanks to that. However, the gym’s maintenance leaves a lot to be desired. As shown in the photos, the class space is not well maintained—the air vents are covered in dust, the walls are cracking with plaster falling out, and the room is never cleaned so there’s dust everywhere. It’s gotten to the point that I get dust in my eyes and throat while working out. The equipment used for the classes, such as the barbells, have been falling apart since I joined and we have to share equipment to get through classes sometimes which is a little pathetic.Overall, while the classes and instructors are excellent, the lack of facility maintenance and cleanliness is really disappointing. I’m not sure why the business has chosen to ignore a whole set of clients who otherwise are clearly loyal. If this changes, I’ll be sure to revise this post.
January 23 · Sophie SchwartzI used to go to the YMCA for years, but I switched to this gym because it’s closer and offers everything I need—at half the price! I’ve been coming here 3 times a week for the past six months without missing a day, which is the most consistent I’ve ever been with my workouts. The gym can get busy at times, so I usually go early in the morning or late at night to avoid waiting for equipment. My routine is about 40 minutes of weights and 20 minutes of cardio, and I leave feeling great. Overall, it’s been an awesome experience!
March 14 · Kenneth WongI joined Northeast Health & Fitness a few years ago for the sole reason of attending group exercise classes. I quickly learned that the instructors were all AMAZING as were the classes that they taught. Bonus factors were that your gym was located close enough to my home making it convenient, and the group fitness schedule meshed with my unpredictable work life.Recently, I was dismayed and frustrated to learn that I must now pre-register for group fitness classes and that classes will be canceled with less than a certain number of people registered. Sadly, for me, this will not work most of the time. My work schedule is sporadic at best and does not afford me that flexibility.Furthermore, under the recent ownership change, the membership costs were increased, however, I’m not sure for what reason? The overall experience has become increasingly frustrating. First, there is a lack of equipment available for the group fitness classes, and the limited equipment that is available is shoddy at best (plastic peeling off barbells and weights, etc…). The basketball court where the group fitness classes are held is a good size however the area where the equipment is stored is unkempt most of the time. I hope Northeast Health & Fitness will reconsider this pending shift in group class registration whose only purpose will frustrate and alienate members. There are definitely better gyms that prioritize customer service, cleanliness, and member experience.
January 27 · Maureen ODonnellI thought that since there is a new owner that this gym would get the upgrades and attention that is well over due. But alas, no! I've asked about new mats and exercise bands - both not high ticket items - but so far, no. I asked if the old and tattered TRX's will be replaced, no. The carpeting in the women's locker room stinks! The new paint on the walls looks good but that's not where the quality counts. This place has so much potential (hence the 2 stars) but the new owners only seem to care about security cameras and a useless charging station (out in the open where a phone could be easily snatched). Please put your money where it counts and soon!!
