What is Worth Choosing
Pulse Fitness is an excellent choice for individuals in Michigan—especially those in Pleasant Ridge, Royal Oak, and surrounding areas—who value a highly structured and professionally-led fitness environment.
The single most compelling reason to choose Pulse Fitness is the quality of its coaching and the proven effectiveness of its Personal Training service. As a satisfied customer remarked, trainers like David are "knowledgeable, motivating, and genuinely invested in his clients’ success," tailoring every session to specific goals and fitness levels. This personalized approach to instruction is a substantial upgrade from a large, unguided open gym, ensuring better form, faster results, and higher accountability. The energy and community found in the Group Fitness setting also provide a powerful motivator, helping members to look forward to the challenge and "become energized about working out again." For people who need that external push and expert oversight to stay consistent, Pulse Fitness fills a critical need.
However, local users should be aware that the strong emphasis on group classes has sometimes led open gym users to feel less prioritized, with one review noting a preference for "classes" over "open gym" members. The intensity and high volume of group class activity, particularly the use of loud music, may also affect those who prefer quiet, independent workouts, necessitating the use of headphones during open gym hours. While the facility offers a great workout, as with any local business, prospective members should take advantage of any available trials or tours to assess whether the atmosphere and maintenance of all areas, including bathrooms and equipment placement, meet their personal standards before committing to a membership. Ultimately, if your priority is expert, personalized training within a challenging group setting, the focused model of Pulse Fitness offers a highly effective pathway to achieving your fitness and wellness goals in Metro Detroit.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Incredibly disappointed. From the area but moved away for work, have followed Pulse throughout the years and was looking forward to joining when I moved back home. Joined for 2 months and cancelled. If you go while there’s a class, don’t bother bringing headphones. If you join and only use the open gym, they’ll treat you as such. Classes are what they care about and if you aren’t drinking the kool aid you will feel unwelcome.I was working out on their turf section, no class going on, one of their trainers came into the back room and turned his music on the loudspeaker and audibly laughed as I took my headphones out because I couldn’t hear.We were told a sauna was being put in. If it’s anything like the bathrooms, don’t go in it. Fruit flies all over the bathroom.Lastly, why would you put the cardio machines in the hottest part of the building? Upstairs in the corner? All in all, the least welcoming gym I’ve ever been a part of. Would not recommend for $100.
August 29 · Cameron CavazosI am newer to Pulse and have been training with David for a few months now, and I can confidently say he’s one of the best personal trainers I’ve worked with. He’s knowledgeable, motivating, and genuinely invested in his clients’ success. Every session is tailored to my goals and fitness level, and he strikes the perfect balance between pushing me and keeping things fun and sustainable.Overall, my experience at Pulse has been great! From my training to the rest of the staff. Highly recommend if you are looking to challenge your fitness goals and become energized about working out again!
May 06 · Natalie GajewskiPulse Fitness is an outstanding gym. The open gym is always clean, well-equipped, and never too crowded. It’s the perfect spot to focus, train hard, and stay consistent. The environment is welcoming and motivating — you feel it as soon as you walk in.Big shoutout to Liz and Christian for always going above and beyond. Their energy, support, and passion make a huge difference. Highly recommend Pulse to anyone looking for a gym that actually delivers.
May 22 · Drew BrouckaertWill never spend my money at this gym when they very clearly don't support democracy, the LGBTQ+ community or fundamental rights for asylum seeking immigrants or refugees. And as a Michigan business, they fully support the federal government pulling all funding from Great Lakes research. Wild. Find another place to workout.
April 25 · SashaAminaPulse Fitness is great. Happy to see all the 1-star voters below my review are sticking with Planet Fitness and complaining when others set off the lunk alarm.
