★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Sam Calvano, the owner and main teacher, gives such great instructions and inspirations in each and every class. She provides a flow sequence, which starts out with some basic poses, and then she adds on, eventually moving the class through a complex sequence at a faster pace which is an unexpectedly good workout. Her guided cool-downs are wonderful and help you put your priorities in order! What I mean is that you learn to value being present in the moment, and practicing mindfulness as an important part of the yoga practice. While all of the instructors have been terrific, Sam C is a very special teacher.
July 22 · Carolyn PattersonI love Practice Altadena! I started shortly after they opened and Sam, the owner, had me hooked after the first class! She is an extremely warm and knowledgeable person. They have a very welcoming atmosphere and diverse clientele. All the instructors I've worked with practice an "honor your body" philosophy and students do what they can. They have "flow", "rest" and "sit" classes along with a variety of special event classes that have included astrology and tarot. So glad this is so close to me. I will continue to come for as long as they are here!
December 03 · Anna WalkerLOVE this studio! I don't live in Altadena, but it's 100% worth the drive. Sam is an amazing yoga teacher and lovely person. She tailors movement to what people want to work on, and her classes (and fantastic playlists) always feel thoughtfully crafted. Whether it's a challenging flow or a more meditative "sit" class, I always leave the studio with the same sense of peace I have after a good massage, and I feel better physically, mentally, and spiritually. The space is beautiful, and Sam has taken great care to create a welcoming, communal environment. In addition to classes, the space is home to unique workshops and special events, like soundbaths, dance classes, and Heather Robb's quarterly "Something Blue" Songwriters' Round, which has become one of my all-time favorite events in LA. Sam's creativity and generosity shine in the fun activities she brings to the studio (the Self-Love challenge last February that ended with a bag of self-care goodies, the Bingo challenge in celebration of the studio's upcoming 1st birthday, and more). Finally, Sam has enlisted other fabulous teachers, like Bobby, to build a warm team. Can't recommend practice enough!
December 04 · Julianne JigourI joined this studio soon after it arrive at the neighborhood and it’s become my second home. I am so grateful for a place that encourages me to move my body at MY pace, but always with plenty of suggestions and room for play. This studio is a gem. Quality yoga and cozy/inviting atmosphere. We’re lucky to have this place in the neighborhood! Can’t wait to meet more of the community on the mat.
December 01 · Audrey MorenoBest yoga studio in LA. Friendly, non-pretentious environment with fun, challenging classes that are different every time! Sam is a fantastic instructor, and she’s super receptive to your individual needs. The studio also offers great community events, and the sound baths are so restorative!
