Pilates Garage Introduce
Introduction / Overview
In the bustling and dynamic landscape of Brooklyn, finding a dedicated space that combines expert instruction with a deeply personal approach to wellness can be a challenge. Pilates Garage, a women-owned studio located in the heart of Brooklyn, offers a refreshing and transformative solution. This isn't just a place to exercise; it’s a sanctuary for building a stronger, more aligned, and more mindful body. The studio specializes in both Pilates and the Alexander Technique, two complementary disciplines that focus on improving posture, movement, and overall body awareness. Clients, from complete beginners to seasoned practitioners, are guided through a series of exercises that, while sometimes conceptually tricky, are made clear and effective by the studio's encouraging and optimistic instructors. The mission of Pilates Garage is to help New Yorkers achieve remarkable physical improvements, from increased strength and flexibility to a newfound sense of ease and freedom in their daily lives. The studio's commitment to personalized attention and a supportive environment creates a space where real, lasting change can occur, moving beyond simple fitness to a holistic sense of well-being.
The essence of Pilates Garage is its dual focus on two powerful modalities: Pilates and the Alexander Technique. Pilates is renowned for its ability to create long, lean muscles and a strong core, while the Alexander Technique teaches individuals to become more aware of their habitual patterns of movement and how they can be changed to reduce tension and strain. By combining these two practices, the studio provides a comprehensive approach to body mechanics that is rare to find. This thoughtful integration is what leads to the "miraculous" results some clients have reported, such as an increase in height due to improved posture. The studio's friendly and professional tone, coupled with its proven effectiveness, makes it a trusted destination for anyone in the New York area seeking a thoughtful and results-driven approach to their health. Whether you are looking to recover from an injury, improve athletic performance, or simply feel better in your own skin, Pilates Garage offers a path forward, guided by passionate and knowledgeable teachers who are invested in your success.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1This place is amazing and JoLynn is the best instructor and teacher of all time. I had never done Pilates. I came in and said "I want to work on glutes and abs" and JoLynn and I got to work. Pilates is a tricky concept to learn and the exercises don't always make sense but JoLynn makes them clear. She is an encouraging and optimistic person. I trusted her to guide me and she gladly answered all of my many questions. She helped me build mat exercises for me to do at home. We set goals together and updated them as these goals were achieved. The results have been nothing short of miraculous. I am in much better shape. My abs, hips, and glutes are strong. My posture is so much better that when I saw my doctor and he measured my height I am now 1" taller!!! I move so much freer and easier than before I started. Pilates Garage and JoLynn have changed my life - thanks soooooo much!!!!!!
April 09 · Jim BTried a community mat class with Abby Lee-Zampi and it was amazing. I've never really liked any kind of exercise class before, but with her, I've been craving going back again and again. Wish she taught more sessions. I'd follow her into hell if she had classes there.
July 29 · Rusty SI had been meaning to try the Pilates Garage for a while now (I live just up the street) and I’m so glad I finally did! I had an incredible first session with Paige – she was super encouraging and engaging. I appreciated the variety of the session and all her guidance to make sure it was totally comfortable and accessible (though still challenging!) for a beginner like me. I left feeling better than when I came in, and I’m looking forward to making this part of my weekly routine.
May 01 · VeronicaI love the Pilates garage! Theresa is an extraordinary teacher and I look forward to our time together every week. I started doing Pilates Because of chronic lower back pain and I am feeling better and stronger every week. Highly recommend.
May 22 · Sari TomsonI have been going to Pilates and working with Margi Douglas for several years. She always tries to mix up the routine whether it is virtual or in person and really personalizes the session for me. She is also very mindful of any issues I may have with my ankle or other parts of my body each time and always asks me prior to the session if there is anything she should be aware of or anything I would like to work on that day. She mixes in some Alexander treatment with the Pilates for me so working with Margi is interesting and I always feel great whenever our session ends. The studio is also very comforting and they have been super careful during the pandemic. The studio is always sanitized and I rarely see more than one other instructor working there for my in person sessions and most of the time it is just myself and Margi.. I would highly recommend her if you are looking for hands on personalized sessions..
