Loprinzi's Gym Introduce
For those in Oregon who appreciate history, community, and the true art of physical fitness, there is a gym in Portland that is unlike any other. Loprinzi's Gym, a Portland institution since 1948, is more than just a place to lift weights; it is a living monument to the "golden era of bodybuilding." In a world increasingly dominated by impersonal, corporate fitness centers, Loprinzi's stands as a proud and honest last bastion of a bygone era. It's a place where the love for lifting and a deep respect for physical culture are palpable in every corner. For local users, this gym offers a rare opportunity to experience a piece of old Portland, a place of passionate people and timeless values.
What makes Loprinzi's so special is its rich history, tangible in every piece of equipment and every story shared by its long-time members and the owner, Bob. Many of the machines are custom-made by Portland iron workers and welding shops that have since closed down, giving the gym a unique, one-of-a-kind feel. You can find original equipment here, including one of the very first Nautilus machines ever made, as well as classic globe dumbbells. This isn’t just a gym; it’s a fitness museum that you can actively train in. The owner, who has worked out here for over 60 years, is often on-site, sharing stories and upholding the special atmosphere that has made this gym a cherished part of the community for decades. This dedication from the owner and the rich culture of the place are what make it an absolute treasure that needs to be protected.
Loprinzi's Gym is conveniently located at 2414 SE 41st Ave, Portland, OR 97214, USA. Situated just off Division Street, the gym is easily accessible for residents of Southeast Portland and beyond. Its location in a classic Portland neighborhood makes it easy to find and reach by car or public transit, allowing members to seamlessly integrate their workouts into their daily routine. The gym is also committed to accessibility, offering a wheelchair-accessible entrance, parking lot, and restroom, ensuring it can accommodate a wide range of individuals. This thoughtful consideration for its members' needs makes it a practical and inclusive choice for anyone in the Oregon area.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Easily the best gym for those that have a passion for lifting. And confidently takes my #1 spot for best gym I’ve had the pleasure of working out at.Being the only gym in Portland for half its life, the owner has worked out there for 60 years. Most of the equipment is custom made by Portland iron workers and welding shops that closed down years ago. It has one of the first nautilus machines ever made, and a wealth of knowledge in classic bodybuilding magazines and books.Loprinzi’s is not only a small slice of old Portland, a place of local business and passionate people; it’s an honest last bastion of the golden era of bodybuilding, a place you can hardly find amidst corporatized and indifferent box gyms set up to make a buck. The owner is there every day and works out with us in between greeting guests and sharing stories about the history of the place.Thank you, Bob, for continuing to provide and maintain such a special atmosphere and culture that’s lost to us in most places. Loprinzi’s is a modern day monument to a lifestyle I didn’t think I’d be lucky enough to experience.
October 11 · DylanThis gym needs to be protected! What an absolute treasure it is. Rich in history and they do a great job at preserving it. It feels like you stepped back in time. Getting to train with original chain driven Nautilus equipment globe dumbbells were a highlight for me. I hope this gym stays open for many more years to come!
March 24 · Britton ShupeI was so excited to try out this no-frills gym that everyone seems to love. I was pretty put off by how cramped the space was, but whatever, I could get used to that. The real treasure was the women's locker room. Guys. This locker room looks like it's been abandoned for a few decades. Neither the lights nor water worked. The sauna is completely out of commission as well. I almost couldn't stifle my laughter; it was so unbelievably decrepit and abandoned. I felt like I was in Silent Hill. The owner seemed lovely and I'm sure if you're a dude you'll fit right in here. But unfortunately old-school also means that women aren't really welcomed here. At least that's how I felt.
January 03 · Genevieve St. CharlesI thought it might be old school but didn't realize how old school. The dumbbells appeared to be circa 1965. There's rust on machines and dirt and dust on everything. It's like working out in someone's garage.
February 21 · CoryAwesome gym. Great vibe, classic equipment, friendly staff, lots of freeweights.
