When considering a gym in Fairfax, Virginia, LA Fitness is worth a closer look for its expansive offerings and amenities, but it is also important to consider the feedback from existing and former members. The provided reviews highlight a key theme: while the gym offers a lot of features, there have been some noticeable changes and challenges, particularly following the transition from XSport Fitness. One reviewer's comments about non-functional treadmills and cleanliness issues are important to consider, as are the mentions of the pool and jacuzzi being shut down and the steam room not working. This feedback suggests that the gym's quality and maintenance may not always meet every member's expectations. On the other hand, the reviews also point out that the gym still has many offerings that appeal to members, such as personal training and a variety of classes.
The choice to join this gym comes down to what you prioritize. If a wide variety of amenities like a basketball court, swimming pool, and sauna are essential for your fitness routine, and you are comfortable navigating potential maintenance issues, then LA Fitness may still be a good fit. The convenience of its location, the accessibility features, and the availability of services like personal training and youth classes are all strong selling points. However, if consistent hours and reliable, fully functional equipment are at the top of your list, it might be beneficial to visit the gym in person, ask specific questions about the status of the amenities, and perhaps speak with other members to get a more current perspective. Ultimately, for the right individual who values a large facility with many options, this LA Fitness remains a valid option in the Fairfax community, but it is a choice that should be made with a full understanding of its current state and a realistic expectation of the member experience.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I’ve been going here on and off since 2014 and it has gone down hill tremendously since then. 50% of the treadmills don’t work… also women’s bathroom smells like urine and stalls look incredibly disgusting. ALSO used to be 24 hour which i appreciated (reason why i moved gyms from planet fitness back during covid) and now they close early around 10 and sometimes unexpectedly earlier randomly.
June 19 · Audrey Kim🚨New Members, Read This Before Joining This Gym🚨This location used to be part of XSport Fitness, which was once a great gym. Over time, however, the facilities began to decline due to aging. When LA Fitness took over XSport Fitness, I was hopeful for improvements but unfortunately, they’ve made the gym worse than I could have ever imagined. Here are some of the key issues I’ve noticed since the transition:They shut down the pool and jacuzzi, which were major features of the gym. They cut off guest Wi-Fi access, making it less convenient for members. The overall upkeep and quality seem to be dropping compared to when it was XSport.Machines broke constantly, they never fix it and Steam room doesn’t work most of the time. (after LA fitness took over the Xsport)I’ve been a member of XSport Fitness for almost a decade, primarily frequenting the Fairfax, Merrifield and Alexandria locations. In comparison, this location is slightly better right now, but it still doesn’t meet the standards I was used to.It’s unclear whether LA Fitness is intentionally downgrading these former XSport locations or if it’s just a case of poor management. Either way, the changes have been disappointing, especially during these challenging and unpredictable times.I preferred XSport Fitness over Gold’s Gym because it was open 24/7, offering true flexibility for people with non-traditional schedules. Unfortunately, the current hours seem geared only toward desk job or blue-collar workers, making it less accessible for others.Consider these points before committing to a membership here. The gym’s current state doesn’t live up to its former reputation, and it’s uncertain if things will improve under LA Fitness.
December 03 · San DeeThis gym legit is bad for the average user. Weight machines and Cardio machines are all needing a lot of rehab. I’ve been coming here almost a year and some machines haven’t been touched in months for repair. Take this photo for example. Half the cardio machines don’t even work in the cardio area and these machines have been left unfixed for a few months now. And they don’t even bother to fix them. Customer beware if you’re planning on coming to this gym.
May 01 · Nelson JordanNone of the TVs work or work properly. If you're considering a membership go to their website first. Scam alert....Don't waste your time on the 3-day or 7-day trials. They will not honor them unless you buy a membership. All TVs are broken. If you visit the gym note how little cleaning solution is available to clean machines after use. Nobody cleans after use. Machines are covered in sweat. Weeks with no repairs to numerous machines. LA Fitness acquired xSport. This gym is in a total free fall. Pool is not going to reopen. many machines, message beds are down until further notice. Systematically removing TVs from cardio machines. TV screens are broken now with DirecTV down. Now few of the cardio machine TV screens work. Massage beds are under premium memberships. . . .TVs are not working properly. It's a staff free for all.... Just an FYI... Don't waste your money on either premium memberships. The hydro massage beds have been out of service for months. Don't expect to ever use them. It's been a slow burn. They have slowly removed services and increased monthly fees. Equipment disappears and it is never replaced. Things are worsening. Many cardio machines are broken. Billing is a disaster. So much for a premium membership. Now the 80lb, and 70lb curl bars are permanently gone. Both water message machines are out of order. Absolutely chaos at this club. Pool has been closed for months. Pool is closed permanently. Steam room closed until further notice. Water fountain drain has been clogged for a month.
August 20 · Glen BThis gym is the product of its customers. Either they stopped caring and management followed suit or due to disrepair, the customers stopped caring. Racking weights is non-existent. You see plates lying all over the place. This is chaos.I wonder if this place will be transformed into the better or worse (not even sure that's possible) since LA Fitness bought Xsports. Everything is either super old or barely functioning, I mean everything. This place should be burned down and rebuilt but we know that the shareholders needs are more important than the customers.I should have stuck with 24 Hour fitness but they aren't located in all the states I visited which caused me to switch. The biggest mistake of my life. But I'm hopeful. Also this will no longer be 24 hours as of 11/11/24.Lastly some of these restrictions are wild..And change the sign of the place. When I first drove up, I thought I was in the wrong spot.3/29/25 - any upgrades they are saying will occur will likely never occur. This gym is absolutely filthy and broken. No clue why anyone would intentionally sign up here if they grew up in this area. I would be at onelife fitness if it wasn't for their one year commitment, higher monthly cost, etc. I am still debating on sucking it up and changing over to 24 Hour fitness down the line.
