★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1This place is AMAZING!! I signed up my young son, unsure of what to expect... however after one class with Coach Carson, my little guy was HOOKED. Coach Carson is patient, kind, firm, and VERY knowledgeable- exactly what my son needed. I saw immediate respect displayed by my son because he respects Coach Carson so much- he also incorporates fun in between skills to keep the kids engaged (and tired by the end)! We are thrilled we found this place. I cannot say enough good things about how this gym is run!
June 26 · Hayley SGRIT MMA is by far the best martial arts gym around. I was relatively new to martial arts before signing up here, and a little bit intimidated. Coach Carson and his wife Haili were both very welcoming, along with the rest of the Grit team.I had previously been going to another gym that was larger, but I didn't receive half of the experience I've gotten from Carson. Carson is a phenomenal coach, with 15+ years of professional fighting experience. He's able to adapt to every skill level regardless of it's your first day, or you're training for your next pro fight. Coach Joey leads most of the classes if Carson isn't available, (and has his own Muay Thai classes T/TH mornings) and he's another awesome coach who's very experienced and knows how to teach and instruct. Not only is the coaching great, but the team there is awesome. You're not just another number, and it doesn't matter if you're in there to compete or just to have fun. It's a very family oriented gym full of awesome guys and girls. You get a lot of one on one and individualized training and critiquing, along with being able to hang out with a bunch of amazing people. I HIGHLY recommend!
July 18 · Christian WhiteThis is a great place to learn, improve in, and further a career as fighter in, mixed martial arts, or as a kickboxer or grappler as well. The head coach, Carson Frei, is a professional MMA fighter, who (at the time of me posting this review) is still competing professionally, and in my opinion has a great fight record that not only shows he has a deep understanding of which fighting methods work best in the cage, but that he also understands the business of sport fighting and can successfully assist as a manager for those wanting to compete as an amateur or professional fighter. There are a few other things that have really stood out to me while I've been training at Grit MMA. One is that there is a visible correlation between the time a person spends at Grit MMA training and how good they are at sport fighting (Kickboxing, grappling, & MMA), which in my observations, those who have been training there for awhile have developed into really good martial artists.Another thing that has really stood out to me is the training culture there. It's one where everyone positively supports each other. Even though we are all there for our own personal goals, there's also just this understanding amongst everyone to be mindful and supportive towards those who we are training alongside with. Even those whose abilities and skills sets are quite above where I'm currently at are still kind and understanding towards me whenever we interact with each other. It really feels like a good community of people to train alongside with, which to me I find to be refreshing. The other big thing that has stood out to me while I've been training there is that it's fun. I trained in MMA back in the very early 2000's for a few years and got a lot out if it. I probably could have done somewhat well as an amateur fighter if I had simply applied myself just a little bit more back then. Faster forward a little over a couple of decades and I find myself needing to lose some weight after injuries from an auto-collision caused me to become more sedentary than I used to be. Since training in MMA in the early 2000's caused me to get in the best shape I've ever been in, and I already know how safe MMA training actually is, since I now have to be mindful about the lasting effects of my injuries, that I figured I'd train in it once again. I'm also just personally curious if I apply myself better than I did before if it's possible for me to become a better martial artist than I was back then. I think Grit MMA is a great example of how MMA training has evolved since the early 2000's. I had some serious critiques with some of the training practices and toxic personalities I came across back then. Grit MMA is a place that has filtered out those problematic things and it really has made training more enjoyable. It still requires work, discipline, and foregoing comforts in order to improve in this sport, but with it being more fun it's a lot less difficult to apply those necessary attributes.I know I've written a lot here, but I think people should know why I think this place deserves to be given 5 stars. And to Carson, I'm sure you're going to get a notification about my review shortly after I've posted it, and will likely promptly read it, so to you I want to say that I've genuinely meant every word I've written here. You really have something great going there at the gym.
March 29 · Mr VGreat place to learn. I’ve been attending the kickboxing class for a few months. My son does the kids class and has a blast.I know It can be intimidating to walk into an MMA gym with no experience. Trust me, Coach Carson does a fantastic job of teaching the basics, making you feel comfortable, then improving in a short period. The other gym members are very welcoming and supportive.Take advantage of the free trial, you have nothing to lose. You’ll be impressed at how quickly you’ll catch on and start improving. Also, you don’t need to be “in shape” to start. You’ll get a great physical workout, better than the gym.
March 11 · christopher JohnsonI started training with Carson in 2020. He’s always been an Amazing Coach, Great Motivator and a Creative Trainer. The Gym provides a family feeling no matter how big the classes get as well as a very professional and hard working environment. Training with Grit MMA got me in the best shape I’ve ever been in, helped give me confidence and taught me very valuable life lessons as well as teaching me how to fight and defend myself. I would HIGHLY recommend joining Grit MMA.
