★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1We waited 5 months on a waitlist for a weekend preschool class. I received an email one week ago noting our spot had become available and to call their office within 24 hours to secure the spot. I called two times (left two voicemails) and sent two emails within that 24 hour period with zero response. Why am I being rushed and expected to meet a deadline when they don't offer the same respect to a parent?Over the course of the following days, I continued to call and email. Nobody answers their phones. I did miss two calls from them due to my own scheduling conflicts (work and a doctor appt), but every single time I have tried to call back... countless times... I get voicemail. I also received an email from them saying they were willing to answer questions over email but yet they didn't (I have posed questions twice to them now) and they simply haven't responded since. So I guess they gave away our spot? Communication doesn't seem to be even remotely decent and that's a big red flag for me - can't imagine how it would be to handle other minor things down the line.
April 28 · Sarah RogoffDisappointed in our experience here. There is zero communication with the coaches regarding your child’s progress or experience unless there was a behavior issue during class. We’ve been going here since August 2024 and I’ve never even spoken to my child’s coach. Parents are not allowed in the gym at all unless you’re in the under 3 class. Coach Roger, the owner, is very direct and brash about this, but we took it in stride and tried not to be overly protective of our oldest child. There are two small, screened windows to view the gym from the outside so it’s nearly impossible to see anything. There are cameras that can be viewed from the website during your child’s class time, but again, it’s a small view and there is no sound. My child typically takes a few classes to warm up to new experiences, so it was tough the first two classes as she didn’t fully participate and they seemed irritated by it, but again, parents are not allowed in the gym to assist with acclimating to a new environment. During tonight’s class (Nov 20), I received a call after 40 minutes, and was told my child wasn’t participating and needed to leave to “get some rest”. I was outside waiting so I went in where I was told by a young male coach that my child got in an argument with another child and was no longer participating. Seeing as my child is 5, this doesn’t seem unusual for the age. When I looked in the gym, my child was standing quietly. I was told to go into the gym to help remove her. As I walked up to my child, Coach Kim (not my child’s coach, but part owner of the gym) looked at me and threw her hands in the air saying “she needs to go! She has disrupted this entire gym!”. My child standing quietly began to cry because she didn’t want to leave class early. I was not offered an explanation of what happened other than what my child told me. Seeing how Coach Kim spoke to me in front of the entire gym leads me to believe she likely had far worse to say to my child when I was not present. This gym is great for anyone who thinks their 5 year old is an Olympian who needs harsh guidance, however, our family will not be returning. I regret I didn’t trust my gut the day I discovered parents could not enter the gym to simply watch their child enjoy a sport that they pay for.
November 20 · MarissaMy 3-year old daughter was showing interest in gymnastics so we decided to sign her up for a trial class with Fairfax Gymnastics Academy ($25). The website and sign up process was fairly straightforward and my conversation with them (via email) answered all of my questions. This is where the good things end. When it was time for my daughter to attend her trial, she was naturally a bit apprehensive. They have a strict "no parents in the gym" rule so my wife was unable to console her and help her feel included. Since my daughter was not actively participating in the class and apparently causing a "disruption" to the other students, the instructor dismissed her from the class before she could even get a chance to do anything. When I asked them for a refund since my daughter was unable to participate, they mentioned that the owner would get back to me but they never did. Our experience might have been different if our daughter had some prior gymnastics experience. For beginners, however, I would absolutely not recommend this facility and instead look elsewhere.
November 19 · Joshua SeltzerBit disappointed. I paid $285 for the fall 2's program for my daughter. They do not offer a trial class so I had to jump right into the full price. We did one class just to see that it was all just a bit too much for her tiny size and age (she just turned 2 and is 19 pounds and just a tiny child) the class level was all just a bit too far above a 2's level I don't want to force her and turn something that should be fun into something that she hates going to.After the first class I immediately emailed the owner giving him this information and was told that I would still have to pay many fee's etc etc. Long story short, I ended up only being refunded $180. So I paid $105 dollars just to do one class and quickly see the demands for toddlers is just too much for your average two year old. Very disappointed to pay so much for basically a trail class.
September 16 · Laura SullivanIt's not a welcoming place.. so not recommending for "new" athletes. I have a very shy, introverted 5 YO. When we visited the place for the first time just to spectate, one of the staff told us to watch outside because parents (me) are not allowed in the building. I asked the staff if we could stay and watch until my kid got a little comfortable, but she was very adamant. We ended up stepping outside only to find out that the windows were tinted, and we could not see the inside. Still giving 3 stars for doing her job... the approach can be improved as well as the facility 🙂 Hope it helps.
