The Connecticut Gymnastics Academy offers a wide range of programs that cater to different age groups and skill levels, from toddlers to competitive athletes. While specific class names may vary, the core services are focused on gymnastics and related activities:
Recreational Gymnastics: The academy provides programs for children who are new to gymnastics or those who simply want to have fun and stay active. These classes teach fundamental skills in a safe and positive environment, helping kids build strength, coordination, and confidence. Parents mention that their children start in the recreational program and then progress to more advanced levels.
Competitive Gymnastics Teams: For aspiring athletes, CGA offers competitive team programs. These are rigorous, dedicated programs where coaches work to build "competitive athletes." Reviews highlight that coaches are "tough in a loving way" and instill the values of hard work and focus, preparing gymnasts for high-level competition.
Pre-Team Programs: The academy also has pre-team programs for younger children who show potential and an interest in advancing to the competitive level. This provides a structured path for young gymnasts to develop their skills and prepare for the demands of competitive sports.
Tumbling Classes: While not explicitly mentioned in the provided reviews, most gymnastics academies offer tumbling classes, which are popular for gymnasts, cheerleaders, and dancers who want to improve their floor and acrobatic skills. The presence of coaches like AJ, who works with the "littles," and Brock, who works with "amazing athletes," suggests a range of programs for various skill sets.
What makes the Connecticut Gymnastics Academy a top choice for families is not just the services, but the overall environment and the quality of the people.
Exceptional Coaching Staff: The coaching team is consistently praised by parents. Coaches like Brock, Roberta, AJ, Kim, and especially Brittany, are described as "tough," "loving," "encouraging," and "great role models." This dedication and mentorship are the primary highlights of the academy, as they go beyond skill development to build character and a strong work ethic in young athletes.
Warm and Welcoming Environment: The academy is described as having a "warm and welcoming" and "positive" environment. This is a crucial feature, as it ensures that children feel comfortable and supported in their training. The staff, including Roberta at the front desk, contributes to this friendly atmosphere, creating a community feel for the families.
Dedicated to Long-Term Development: The academy's ability to take a child from a toddler's recreational class to a competitive athlete speaks volumes about their structured and progressive programs. This long-term commitment to a child's growth is a significant selling point for parents looking for a stable and impactful extracurricular activity.
On-site Amenities: The facility includes a restroom for convenience, a standard but essential feature for any gym or academy.
Safety and Encouragement: Parents appreciate that the coaches, while "tough" and running a "tight ship," do so "appropriately." This indicates a balance of high standards with a focus on safety and positive reinforcement, which is vital in a physically demanding sport like gymnastics.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1We love CGA - my daughter has been there since she was 8 and has had an amazing experience! Although the coaches are tough (which is expected), they do so appropriately and consistently support and encourage my daughter! Thank you Brock, Roberta, AJ, Kim and all those who have been instrumental in my daughter's love for gymnastics!!!
June 29 · Marla BuonoMy daughter started as rec when she was a toddler and is on preteam now. We absolutely LOVE Coach Brittany! She is a great role model for our girls - she teaches them hard work and focus! She is tough in a loving way and is exactly what a coach should be - encouraging, positive, and runs a tight ship! The girls are eager to make her proud and work hard for it! These girls will be competitive athletes thanks to Coach Brit! The entire environment is warm and welcoming - from Roberta in front, to AJ with the littles and Brock in the back with the amazing athletes that he has worked to hard to build! We could not be happier at CGA! THANK YOU to them!
March 12 · Tiffany Oliver GagnonWe attended CGA for over three years, at the recreational, preteam, and team level. I agree with the other reviewer that AJ is the only positive energy in the place. Brock, Brittany, and the other team coaches do not treat their gymnasts nor the parents with respect. There is a complete lack of communication and their egos and stupidity get in the way of being effective coaches. Thankfully my daughter is resilient, because they were completely shattering her self-confidence despite her hard work. I was shocked to learn that Brittany Dubovick teaches physical education at a local school. She lacks any understanding of what is developmentally appropriate for children.
June 09 · Elizabeth DeRoseI have been a CGA for less then a year. But definitely a great experience! I am doing things that I thought I was not going to do for a very long time. The coaching staff in amazing. They have helped me so much with gymnastics and mental health. When I needed to find a new gym I chose CGA right away. I was thinking a was going to do level 4 again. But the pushed me into doing level 5 and I’m so glad they did. That showed the really believed in me!
January 23 · Emma ConnellyAJ was the only good thing about this gymnastics place. He was very fair and was the only positive energy I felt in that whole place. Everyone else was a succubus of joy for myself and my 2 year old daughter just trying to have fun.....not in this place! All the parents were miserable and nuts.
