Carter's Gymnastics Academy Introduce
Introduction / Overview
For families in Mesa, Arizona, and the wider Phoenix metropolitan area, finding a dedicated and effective gymnastics academy for their children is a key step in fostering athletic development and a healthy lifestyle. Carter's Gymnastics Academy, located in Mesa, is a facility that has positioned itself as a place for serious training, particularly for those with competitive aspirations. The academy’s approach seems to be designed to offer a more focused and personalized experience, a stark contrast to larger, more crowded gyms. This "smaller gym by design," as described by one enthusiastic reviewer, is intended to give each athlete more and better attention. The goal is to provide a high level of instruction that leads to improved technique and, ultimately, higher scores in competitions. Coaches such as Jack, Erin, and Shelby are lauded for their passion, commitment, and authenticity, and for their track record of success at important events like State and Regionals. This emphasis on quality coaching and a focused training environment is the core of Carter's Gymnastics Academy's identity. For parents seeking a gym where the primary goal is competitive success and technical proficiency, this model may align well with their expectations. It’s an environment that seems to be built for dedicated young athletes aiming to excel in the sport. However, it's worth noting that the experiences of customers may vary depending on the specific program and a family’s individual goals, as is common with many local businesses. This article aims to provide a factual and comprehensive look at the academy, drawing from public data and customer feedback to help local families make an informed decision.
The academy's mission appears to be centered on nurturing high-performing gymnasts. The focus on technique and competitive results is a defining characteristic of the business. One review highlights the effectiveness of the coaching staff, noting that their athletes "win most" in key competitions. This suggests a strong emphasis on a rigorous training curriculum and a dedicated coaching staff that is committed to the success of their competitive teams. This kind of specialized focus can be a major draw for families who are already invested in the sport and are looking for a place that can take their child to the next level. The personalized attention that comes from being a smaller gym is also a significant selling point, as it can lead to more tailored instruction and faster progress. However, it is also important to consider the experiences of all customers. Another review, for example, raises concerns about the experience for non-competitive or recreational gymnasts, citing issues with supervision, coaching, and communication. This conflicting feedback provides a more balanced view, suggesting that the gym's strengths may be most apparent in its competitive programs, while its approach to recreational gymnastics and general management might not meet every family's expectations. The varying experiences highlight the importance for potential clients to clearly communicate their needs and observe the gym's programs firsthand to ensure a good fit.

March 27 · Tim BrownMy daughter’s went to Carter’s for a few months. For the last month, I have not seen my daughters use the bars. They have mostly been using the trampoline and the rope. One time the instructor asked my daughter if she knew how to do a back hand spring. My daughter told her no but she was working on it a few months back before we started at Carter’s. She had her do one and didn’t really spot my daughter and she fell and had hurt her neck and back due to falling a bit hard. She didn’t say anything but she teared up in the car on our way home. Thankfully it wasn’t a need to go to the doctors.I have been asking for proper placement and a more organized training and I have yet to see any improvement, other than the competitive teams on the floor. I have asked several times to the staff about helping my kids. The receptionist has been the only one to really help which is why I gave them 2 stars because she was very nice.Yesterday(4/19/23) I went to the restroom which is located inside the gym floor area and had to coach my daughter to use her legs to help her climb the rope since unfortunately the teacher was not providing any tips/coaching/etc. Another time she didn’t help my other daughter with her splits. What are the coaches and teachers for then. Not once did I go on the floor of the gym other then walk towards the restroom and I wouldn’t have said anything if the instructor was actually helping my daughters. Well, earlier today they sent me a long email stating that they are basically kicking us out because I distracted everyone yet not once has anyone addressed my previous concerns. I feel this is very unprofessional and I can tell now why this place is usually pretty empty. If you are looking for proper training then I wouldn’t recommend Carter’s.
April 20 · Amber Rose MUAsigned up for a trial class, got there about 20 minutes early and nobody was at the front desk. One of the teachers came to the desk, left her stuff and didn’t care to greet us or help us in any way. Waited 25 minutes and still got no help at all. Ended up leaving. Much better experience at USA gym.
April 17 · Cassandra MetoyerWe have been going there for over 2 years. My girls started there in kindergarten at age 5. They had done basic gymnastics/tumbing for a year prior and quickly were placed in the future stars group after being evaluated by a coach. My girls only do the recreational program but they have something for girls and boys from ages 3 & up. They have a competitive team and another program that some of my friends' children have been invited to join as a fast track to preparing for competitive gymnastics. My girls have had positive coaches and lots of fun. I like that they see the team practicing when they are there so they can see what dedication and talent those girls have. They see level 4-10 girls doing bars, floor, flips on the beam, practicing vaults and more. I also like that they have several levels that your child moves up so they feel a sense of accomplishment. Every few sessions they evaluate your child and the skills they have as mastered, still working or beginning and give you this evaluation for feedback on your child's progress. I feel like kids can progress and the coaches are aware of when the kids are ready to do so. My girls have moved up 4 levels since we started. When they are ready to move up, they do, they don't have to even wait for the next session. Since we do recreational gymmastics, I feel it has been an excellent balance of conditioning, skills, and fun that keeps my girls looking forward to going to gymnastics for over 2 years now! They have gained strength, flexibility and confidence. We also had their birthday party there and it was great- everyone had so much fun. You can choose to go 1x, 2x or 3x a week to help fit your goals for your little gymnast. They also offer a free trial class!
September 30 · Kristin KThe 4-5 year old children definitely learn gymnastics at Carter's Gymnastics Center. They are taught the fundamentals of gymnastics and are evaluated on their skills each session. My daughter has been going to Carter's since she was 5 years old. She is now 13 and a level 9 gymnasts. If you want serious gymnastics, go to Carter's. They know how to get skills out of their gymnasts. They give personal attention to each gymnast. I have coached at other gyms and the kids get lost in the shuffle. Carter's notices each individual child. Their gymnasts do skills that other gyms are not doing.
