Barry's offers a very focused and effective workout model, centered around its signature HIIT classes. While the format is consistent, the classes are varied to target different muscle groups each day, ensuring a balanced and safe training regimen.
High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT): The core of the Barry's workout is a mix of treadmill-based cardio and strength training on the floor. This 50-60 minute class is designed to maximize fat-burning and muscle-building by keeping your heart rate elevated and your body challenged. The class is split into two rounds, with participants alternating between the floor and the treadmill.
Strength Training: The floor portion of the workout focuses on strength training using free weights, resistance bands, and other equipment. The exercises change with each class to target specific muscle groups, such as Chest, Back & Abs, Full Body (Lower Focus), and Arms & Abs. This strategic focus ensures that your body gets a balanced workout and proper time to recover.
Treadmill Cardio: The cardio component involves using state-of-the-art Woodway treadmills for a mix of endurance, hill climbs, and speed intervals. The instructors guide participants through various speeds, from light jogs to full-out sprints, allowing you to choose the intensity level that is right for you.
Double Floor Workout: For those who are not inclined to run, Barry's offers a Double Floor option. This is a no-treadmill class where you focus solely on strength training for the entire 50 minutes, providing a robust workout without the cardio component.
Barry's Philadelphia provides a number of premium features and amenities that elevate the workout experience and contribute to its "best of the best" reputation.
Signature "Red Room": The dimly lit, high-energy studio with red lighting and loud, motivating music creates a unique and immersive atmosphere that helps you stay focused and push your limits.
Professional Instructors: The instructors are a major highlight, known for their ability to explain exercises clearly, provide form corrections, and keep the energy high. They are a significant reason for the gym's dedicated following.
The Fuel Bar: The gym features an on-site smoothie bar where you can order a customized, pre- or post-workout shake. This convenient amenity allows you to refuel and recover with a nutritious beverage right after your session, which can be pre-ordered on their app.
Showers and Premium Amenities: The locker rooms are well-equipped with showers, towels, and high-end products, making it easy to freshen up and get ready for the rest of your day. This is a key feature for those who work in the area and need to get back to the office.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I was in Philly with a group for a leadership conference and a few of us decided to sign up for a Barry's session. When we arrived at this Barry's location they told us the session would be free as many of us have not participated in a Barry's training before. I was unsure what to expect for the class, but was pleasantly surprised with how the class was organized and well-structured.For the workout, there was a floor group and a treadmill group. It was divided into two rounds of each (floor and treadmill) with the participants in the class alternating with each other. The room was dark with red lights and lively music to keep everyone going. Dylan instructed the class and did an excellent job explaining the exercises and kept the energy high throughout the workout. There is a smoothie bar at the front where you can get many different flavors to refuel after your workout.I will definitely sign up for another Barry's class and recommend it to anyone who is serious about keeping in shape. Thank you for the great workout and making it free for many of us for our first time.
