Barry's Chelsea Introduce
Welcome to the heart of New York City's fitness scene! If you're looking to elevate your workout, get ready to experience the legendary "Red Room" at Barry's Chelsea. Known as the original high-intensity interval training (HIIT) workout, this studio has been a staple in the NYC fitness community since it first opened its doors. It's not just a gym; it's a dynamic, high-energy environment designed to challenge you and deliver real, tangible results.
Barry's signature classes combine two core elements: a full-throttle cardio session on a treadmill and an intense strength training session on the floor. This powerful blend, guided by expert instructors and fueled by curated playlists, is why so many New Yorkers consider it the “Best Workout in the World.” Whether you're a seasoned athlete or just starting your fitness journey, the classes are designed to be challenging yet accessible, allowing you to control your own pace and weight selection. You'll work a different muscle group each day of the week, ensuring a balanced routine that minimizes the risk of injury while maximizing your gains.
Conveniently situated in one of Manhattan's most vibrant neighborhoods, Barry's Chelsea is easy to get to. You'll find the studio at 135 W 20th St, New York, NY 10011, USA. Its central location makes it a prime spot for anyone living or working in the Chelsea area and beyond.
For those who rely on public transit, the studio is just a short walk from several subway stations. The 18th Street Subway Station (1 Train) is a mere three-minute walk away, and the 23rd Street Subway Station (1 Train) is a five-minute walk. This accessibility makes it simple to pop in for a class on your way to or from work. For those who drive, parking is available at the Little Man Parking Garage on 20th Street between 6th and 7th Avenues, which is open 24 hours a day. The building also features a wheelchair accessible entrance, ensuring everyone can access the workout space.
Barry's is known for its intense group classes, which are at the heart of its offerings. The studio’s core workout alternates between two key segments to provide a comprehensive, full-body challenge.
HIIT Classes: The original Barry's workout is a high-intensity interval training class that is split between cardio on top-of-the-line Woodway treadmills and strength training on the floor. Each class focuses on a different muscle group to ensure a balanced routine and promote recovery.
RIDE x LIFT Classes: Exclusively offered at this location on the East Coast, the RIDE x LIFT class replaces the treadmill with an indoor cycling bike. This offers a new way to get your cardio in while still benefiting from the signature floor work. It’s perfect for those who prefer cycling over running.
Private and Corporate Sessions: In addition to public classes, Barry's offers private and corporate booking options for those looking for a personalized or team-building experience.
Beyond the signature workouts, Barry's Chelsea provides a premium experience with a range of amenities designed to make your visit seamless and enjoyable.
The Fuel Bar: Post-workout recovery is a breeze with the in-house Fuel Bar. You can order customized, protein-packed smoothies and grab-and-go snacks to help you refuel and repair your muscles.
Full-Service Locker Rooms: The spacious and well-maintained locker rooms are equipped with secure digital lockers, private hot showers, and complimentary grooming products. You'll find high-quality shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and even hair dryers, so you can head straight to your next appointment feeling fresh.
Complimentary Towels: You don't need to worry about bringing your own towels. The studio provides mini towels for your class and large, fluffy towels for your post-workout shower.
Retail Shop: The studio features a shop where you can purchase the latest Barry's branded apparel, from tanks and tees to jackets and accessories, allowing you to show off your dedication to the fitness community.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Went in Jan 2025. The place was really cold to wait for our session to start. Staff struggled to figure out reservations, nor explained how this location was different from my home one, despite me asking. They were more preoccupied with their phones and socializing than being helpful. Otherwise, the instructor was good for the ride class and used our Christmas credits, but I doubt we'll go back to this location.
April 01 · A.Barry’s RIDE X LIFT workout is the perfect mix of cardio and strength. The energy is high, the music keeps you motivated, and the instructors know exactly how to push you without it ever feeling overwhelming. Every class feels challenging in the best way.The staff is also fantastic! I accidentally dropped my ring down the sink drain, and everyone jumped in to help without hesitation. They were so kind, attentive, and genuinely determined to get it back for me – and they did! It’s rare to find that level of care and professionalism, especially at a busy fitness studio.Between the killer workout and the genuinely awesome staff, Barry’s just keeps raising the bar!
July 22 · Bari Dolin EdwardsIt has been a minute since I took Brendon's class. Today reminded me he is really an amazing instructor. Great music and solid workout. Left the red room completely drained. Great class this afternoon
August 15 · Michael RineThis is the only location in NYC that hasRIDE x SPIN classes. This location is relatively spacious and well-kept. There's a red room for RUN x LIFT on the main fl and a red room for RIDE x LIFT downstairs. Tons of lockers - a good amt downstairs and a ton upstairs + inside the Men/Women lockers. The Women locker room is spacious. I love the OUAl products and have gotten some tree samples (OUAl, Kiehl's, etc.) a couple of times at the studio through their partnerships. My go-to instructor is John T. on Saturdays! He has great energy throughout the class + does a great job at instructing both bikes + floor simultaneously.Unlike RIDE x LIFT classes, 25 min is spent at bikes/ floor, then you switch once. The lightest weights for their RIDE x LIFT classes is 8lbs. Staff here is nice and helpful, especially in setting up the new studio bikes.First pair of shoes are free, then it's $3 rental afterwards (cheaper than SoulCycle). They can be used for both bike + floor.
January 25 · Veronica LeongI took a double bike class and absolutely loved it. The instructor (Taylor) brought incredible energy and enthusiasm to the room! it really felt like she was connecting with all of us. It was a challenging workout in the best way possible. I definitely want to take her class again!
