The ARC Gym on the campus of Pratt Institute in Brooklyn is a fully functional workout facility as well as hosts Pratt's indoor athletics. It is a good facility that serves it's purpose but could use some updating. I know Pratt Athletics will be moving up to the NCAA D3 level (congrats) and will want to update. I think a set of bleachers on the other side of the basketball court, an updated sound system, and "stadium" lighting for basketball and volleyball games could be the first step. The floor can come next. All in All it's a large facility with really interesting architecture that I think Pratt Institute will be able to with. - Perry Woods

ARC Building Introduce

For New Yorkers who appreciate the fusion of academics and athletics, the ARC Building on the campus of Pratt Institute is a compelling landmark. Located in the heart of Brooklyn, the ARC is not your typical commercial gym. It is the official home for Pratt’s indoor athletics, serving as a functional workout facility for students and a venue for collegiate sports. This dual purpose gives the building a unique energy, blending the focused environment of a university training center with the excitement of a live sports arena. It is a place where athletes and fitness enthusiasts can share a space, and where the community can come to cheer on their local team.

The facility is designed to serve its purpose well, providing a functional space for workouts and athletic events. One reviewer described it as a "good facility that serves its purpose," and noted its role in hosting Pratt's indoor athletics. As the Pratt Institute's athletics program moves up to the NCAA Division III level, the building is poised for updates, reflecting a commitment to improving the user experience and the overall quality of the venue. These improvements could include enhanced features for spectators and athletes alike, such as updated sound systems and lighting, which are essential for a top-tier collegiate sports venue.

While the ARC is an essential part of the Pratt Institute community, it's also a destination for those who want to experience the energy of a college game. Visitors who have come to watch a Division 3 basketball game have noted the setup, which includes movable bleacher seats, providing a classic, up-close spectator experience. However, some have also pointed out areas for improvement, such as an obstructed scoreboard and a public address system that can be difficult to hear. These observations, while critical, are valuable for understanding the current state of the venue and anticipating future enhancements as the athletics program grows. For many New Yorkers, the appeal of a collegiate athletic facility lies in its community-focused, no-frills atmosphere, and the ARC building delivers on that front.

The building itself is a point of interest, with a reviewer highlighting its "really interesting architecture." This architectural character is a key part of the Pratt Institute's identity, an institution renowned for its design and art programs. The building’s aesthetic uniqueness adds to its charm, distinguishing it from a generic modern gym. For New Yorkers who appreciate a bit of history and character in their surroundings, the ARC Building offers a gym and a venue with a story, and a space that is clearly a part of a larger, artistic community.
