Deciding which gym to join can be a difficult choice, and for many in Pennsylvania, AFC Fitness is a compelling option. The gym's standout feature is its combination of a traditional fitness center with a large-scale sports complex, providing an unparalleled variety of activities. The quality of personal training, as highlighted in a member review, is a significant plus. The review praises her ability to tailor workouts, which resulted in a 35-pound weight loss and a major boost in confidence. This level of personalized care and expertise is a key reason to consider AFC Fitness. However, it's important for potential members to be aware of the contractual obligations of the membership. A different review mentioned a strong regret over the yearly membership contract, finding it difficult to cancel. This feedback highlights the importance of carefully reading and understanding the membership agreement before signing up. While the gym may be a perfect fit for those committed to a long-term fitness plan, individuals who prefer month-to-month flexibility might want to inquire about different membership options. ★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I deeply regret joining AFC. The gym is fine. I realized I don't like gyms and much prefer exercising in the beauty of the outdoors. I've never joined a gym that has a yearly membership. Every other gym have been month to month and easy to end. I joined in January and haven't been to the gym since May, but I am contractually obligated to pay every month until January. If you have any doubts about joining AFC, don't. You'll end up paying every month until your term is up and even then you need to be mindful to come in and give written notice 28 days before renewal to cancel. I just gave myself a Google Calendar task. I begged them to allow me to quit, but was just reminded again and again of my contract. I have never felt less heard.
August 10 · David CohenIf you’re looking for a trainer who is not only knowledgeable but also genuinely invested in your success, look no further than Olivia! From the moment I started working with her, I knew I was in the hands of someone exceptional. Her approach is the perfect blend of expertise, motivation, and personalization—she doesn’t just throw generic workouts at you; she tailors every session to your goals, abilities, and even your mood that day. She pushes you beyond what you thought was possible but always in a way that feels empowering, not overwhelming..Since working with Olivia, I’ve seen incredible progress I lost 35lbs and been in the best physique of my life. My strength, confidence, and motivation have skyrocketed, and I owe so much of that to her guidance. If you’re considering training with Olivia, DO IT!
March 02 · Christina JenningsThe receptionist staff and trainers are absolutely amazing. The equipment and facilities are also wonderful. On the experience side of this gym, it’s a 5/5.However, this gyms profit model is unethical, and deep down driven to suck as much money out of you as possible. The contract is binding for a full year— this would be okay if the sales team explicitly mentioned this. The contract terms are meant to confuse you and smooth past this reality. Whether AFC wants to admit it or not, there is undeniably a shady component at play here.Obviously any business is built on being profitable. With that being said, this model emphasizes confusion as a means of achieving that profit. This is really unfortunate, because I would have loved to keep going to AFC every time I was in the area. It’s a great gym.
June 02 · Liam FoleyTraining with Dan Shapiro at Bala Cynwyd has been a game changer for me! Dan is incredibly passionate, has great energy, friendly, focused and totally committed, he genuinely cares about helping me achieve my fitness goals. I had knee surgery less than a year ago; from day one Dan has been tuned in to what my body needed! Proper form, strength, and mobility. Dan has helped me rebuild my knee safely! I can not thank him enough for pushing me past what I thought my limits where. I don't wear my brace anymore, I am stronger, and am becoming more confident! I highly recommend Dan as a personal trainer! EVERY session is progress.
April 24 · Lisa AnctilI started attending AFC Fitness Bala Cynwyd for physical therapy back in 2023 while attending my first session I immediately noticed how I was not greeted nor given any instructions by the physical therapist Alex Riccardi (Ivy Rehab). I brushed it off the first time not trying to make it a big deal but as I continued my sessions I noticed Alex would go out his way to greet and attend to other guests but never would greet me or give me any instructions on how to do my physical therapy exercises. After weeks of this behavior I went to the general manager and told her what has been happening and how unprofessional the physical therapist has been. Alex would “pick and choose” what guests he wanted to help or greet and that is unacceptable & unprofessional. The manager apologized to me and gave me a sorry card on the behalf of AFC, but I decided to discontinue my sessions there for over a year.I decided to return in March 2025 even though I didn’t have the best experience with the physical therapist, the AFC center itself is very nice and I love the jacuzzi. Upon returning I learned that Alex Riccardi was now the clinical director and the only physical therapist there that I could work with. I was hoping for a new experience than before, but that didn’t happen. Again I was never greeted by Alex, he never helped me with any physical therapy exercises and I continued to notice he went out his way to help “his pics”. I told Mr.Riccardi how unprofessional & disrespectful his behavior has been and how disappointed I am with my service at AFC. He just gave me a blank stare but gave no type of apology or acknowledgement. I discontinued my service at AFC and will file a complaint against the Clinical director. Everyone deserves to be treated with respect and courtesy no matter the race or gender. I hope no one else will ever experience what I have by the staff at AFC (Bala Cynwyd).
