Yoga Concepts Introduce
For residents of Rhode Island seeking a transformative yoga practice, Yoga Concepts in Cranston is a place of deep history and profound dedication. As the first Bikram Method school established in the entire Northeast back in 1985, Yoga Concepts has been a pillar of the local yoga community for decades. This studio is not just a place to exercise; it is a space where the time-tested principles of Bikram yoga are taught with a dedication and passion that is evident to every student. Whether you are a long-time yogi or have never stepped on a mat, Yoga Concepts offers a structured and supportive environment to begin your journey toward a stronger body and a calmer mind.
The heart of Yoga Concepts lies in the expertise and commitment of its instructors, particularly MaryAnn Nassa and Donna. MaryAnn is considered a pioneer of Bikram Yoga in the Northeast, having practiced since 1984 and with over 40 years of teaching experience. Her personal story of using the Bikram method to recover from physical disabilities after heart surgery is a powerful testament to the practice’s rehabilitative benefits. This deep, personal understanding allows her to teach with a level of care and knowledge that is truly exceptional. Students feel "grateful" for the lessons learned and the strong practice they've developed under her tutelage. Similarly, Donna is noted for her dedication and for introducing adjustments to yoga positions for those with physical impairments, making the practice accessible to a wider range of people. The dedication of both instructors is consistently praised, with one reviewer noting that their guidance has truly "paid off" over the years, leading to significant personal benefits.
The studio itself is a first-class facility that supports a clean, energetic, and focused practice. One of the standout features mentioned by members is the use of far infrared heat. Unlike traditional forced-air heaters that can feel stuffy, far infrared heat penetrates the body directly, warming muscles from the inside out. This type of heat is known to enhance flexibility, promote deeper detoxification through sweat, and provide a more comfortable experience, as the air itself is not as hot. This modern technology, combined with the traditional Bikram method, creates a powerful and effective workout. The great energy from motivated fellow students and the dedication of the instructors make each class an inspiring experience. The studio’s commitment to providing a top-tier environment for its students, along with its focus on helping individuals overcome physical limitations, truly sets it apart from other gyms and studios in Rhode Island.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I am grateful that I have learned so much from MaryAnn Nassa at Yoga Concepts over the years. She helped me develop a very strong yoga practice and a love for yoga and introduced me to the works of Paramhansa Yogananda..
March 31 · Heidi GabrilowitzGreat yoga instruction in a first class studio. I’ve been practicing yoga under the direction of Mary Ann and Donna for several years and it has truly paid off. It doesn’t get any better with their dedication, clean studio, the benefits of far Infrared heat and always great energy throughout each class with motivated fellow students. For those that may be experiencing physical impairments Mary Ann and Donna have introduced adjustments to yoga positions. From my experience, like any form of exercise it takes effort and “great things never come from comfort zones” and the mind and body benefits of this practice pay off!
March 05 · Gail DBy far the best instruction I have ever had in 13 years of practice. Mary Ann and Donna are the best of the best. I wish I could practice with them every day. If you are new to yoga or a pro, this is the best studio in Rhode Island. Authentic and true Bikram yoga!
November 27 · Katie WorthingtonThe address on Google Places is incorrect. The new studio is at 1150 Pontiac Avenue (Rear), in Cranston.I have been taking yoga classes at Yoga Concepts (at their old location) for six years. I take Bikram classes around the country when I travel, and have also taken hot vinyassa classes. This studio is consistently clean: the carpets do not smell, and the air quality in the space is good.Mary Ann and Donna, both trained by Bikram himself, are teachers, they do not just recite the memorized monologue. You will be corrected by name if you should be doing a posture differently. They want their students to improve. Not everyone appreciates being publicly corrected during class, but if you can let your ego go, you will see fast improvements in your form and practice. While an individual class may be hard, over the years, my stamina, endurance, and determination have grown immensely. This studio attracts small business owners, lawyers, nurses, doctors and other professionals in high-stress jobs. Why are they there? Possibly because high-achievers seek new ways to challenge themselves, and this class is consistently challenging and never boring. But also because an intense hour and a half of intense focus is the best relaxation there is.Yoga Concepts is opening a new studio, and construction delays mean they will be closed for part of the summer of 2013. I am looking forward to resuming my practice in the new space!
May 30 · Mary JohnsonYou will learn more in a single class here than you may get anywhere else. This studio is state of the art and super clean. It encompasses the discipline and expertise of an authentic lineage with the comfort and hygiene of a modern spa. It's worth going out of your way for this place. Especially if you're looking for the real deal Bikram Yoga.
