★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Most disappointing camp. I was excited for my 6 year old son t attend 1 week at the Y being the week for superheroes theme. It was an awful week for him. I only received a blanket email the Sunday prior to the week with no detailed instructions or agenda for camp. The first day when we dropped him off Monday morning the "camp counselor" who stood in the car line with a tablet had no idea what the week entailed or any agenda. There were no camp counselor feels or excitement for my nervous son joining a huge camp ground with numerous aged kids. My son was bullied that day and a key-chain taken from his water bottle. Another camper helped him retrieve it back - not a counselor. He said kids were mean and smashing juice containers all day.The next day same sort of drop off with no happy greeting or activities explained for the day. My son was not encourage to participate or swim either days. He forgot his water bottle that day and the "camp counselors" are unable to help him find it. He said he sat alone and played in the dirt.Third day he comes home with wet clothes stating he peed his pants. My son is 6 years old and has not peed his pants in years. He said no one showed him where the bathroom was. This is disgusting and has been reported to the camp director with no response. We didn't take him Thursday because of how upset we all were.I took him Friday (the last day) to see if there is an actual superhero theme and the pick up lady says it has been a bad summer and the change in management has had an impact on the camp. Also, there are better camps out there including other camp locations. The Procare app they use did not entail any messages, pictures, or the ability to message anyone. Apparently kids were able to wear their favorite superhero costumes Friday which I was never informed of. It seemed like a badly controlled daycare. This is appalling for the YMCA to be so terrible at a cost of $400 per week.
August 25 · Julie DerbyThis review pertains specifically to the camp at western. I am very disappointed with my experience at YMCA Camp Wassaqui this summer. From the start, I had serious concerns with staff professionalism. There were times when staff were cussing around the kids, and communication with parents was poor. Bullying was also a concern, and when brought up, no real action was taken to address it.On top of that, I was informed the night before that due to staffing issues, camp would be ending two weeks early. The program was supposed to last until August 25th, and parents depend on this childcare for the full summer. As a single working mom, this left me scrambling with no plan for the last two weeks before school starts. Instead of offering a real solution, I was only offered a free month of membership. I had to ask if there was another location, and now my son has to switch camps at the very end of summer losing the friendships and comfort he built here. This was handled very poorly and showed a lack of regard for families who trusted and depended on this camp. I will not be sending my son back next year.
August 18 · Jessica NavasI don’t leave bad reviews, unless really moved to do so…During our time with the camp, there was a serious incident involving my child and another student. The situation included inappropriate AND threatening behavior towards my child, but I was not informed until the end of the day - hours after it happened. All parties should be notified promptly when there’s a safety or well-being concern. The delay in communication left me unable to support my child right away, and provide my child with appropriate guidance. My child requested not to return to the Y, after the experience. It has been three weeks since the incident occurred without any resolution, even after numerous follow up attempts. Parents should be aware of how incidents are communicated - this was our first and last time utilizing this center.I will post an update, if there is a resolution.
August 15 · Jehnai AikenI have a family membership and my youngest son is the only one who really uses it much, he really looks forward to going to the kids club but lately it seems like half the time I try to take him to this particular location, it closes early or the staff doesn't seem to want to have kids come in. Why bother paying full price for the family membership but I can't really use it to the full potential? Whenever the kids club closes early, I never see a notification on the app or anything So I end up driving out of my way, but the only exercise I get being the exercise of wasted carbon emissions from driving for nothing. Also, mini rant But I work out literally everyday and I haven't even lost any weight.
July 26 · Rebecca Jean BeckLove this y! Staff are always very nice and it's clean. The workout gym is big and has plenty of machines so even when it's busy there's always spots available. The pools are always clean too
