Waverley Oaks Athletic Club Introduce
Waverley Oaks Athletic Club, located in Waltham, Massachusetts, is a large-scale fitness center that aims to provide a comprehensive workout experience for its members. The gym is noted for its extensive range of equipment and its visually appealing interior, which creates a positive and motivating atmosphere for many. This facility is more than just a place for lifting weights; it is designed to cater to a wide variety of fitness interests, from traditional strength training and cardio to a robust schedule of group classes. For a long time, the club has been a staple in the local community, offering a space where people can pursue their health and wellness goals. However, recent changes to its pricing structure and management decisions have been a point of contention for some long-standing members. While the club has introduced new benefits and upgraded some of its facilities, a number of members feel that the significant price increases have made the gym less accessible for those who simply want a place to lift weights and use cardio equipment. The club’s decision to focus on classes and group sessions, while potentially beneficial for some, has been perceived by others as a move that alienates a portion of its membership. Despite these concerns, the gym continues to attract those who appreciate a well-equipped facility with a wide range of options. The staff is consistently praised by members for being hard-working and dedicated to keeping the club clean and functional. The quick resolution of broken equipment is a positive highlight, showing a commitment to maintaining the quality of the facility. For individuals seeking a gym with a vast selection of equipment and a variety of fitness programs, Waverley Oaks remains a noteworthy option.

What is worth choosing
Choosing Waverley Oaks Athletic Club is a decision that comes down to a trade-off between a premium, amenity-rich experience and membership cost. For those who can afford the high fees, the gym offers a visually appealing and well-equipped space with a vast selection of equipment. The club's primary value lies in its comprehensive offerings, especially the wide array of group fitness classes and other specialized programs, which are now included in the membership. This is a significant benefit for individuals who enjoy a variety of fitness activities and social workouts. The staff's dedication to cleanliness and maintenance is another strong point, as one member noted, "I constantly see cleaning and when equipment is broken it is fixed or replaced in a timely matter." This shows a commitment to providing a functional and hygienic environment, which is a major factor in a gym's quality. However, the high membership cost and its recent increases are a key consideration for potential members. As a former member pointed out, the price is "extremely high," and the value of the equipment may not justify the cost for everyone, especially when compared to competitors like Lifetime Fitness. Furthermore, the club's perceived shift in focus towards group classes at the expense of general gym-goers is a point of friction for some. The issue of older male members making young women uncomfortable is a serious concern that should be taken into consideration, as it speaks to the club’s community culture and management’s ability to ensure a safe environment for all members. Ultimately, Waverley Oaks Athletic Club is worth choosing for those who are willing to pay a premium for a comprehensive fitness experience with a wide range of classes and a well-maintained facility, and for whom the cost is not a primary deterrent. It is a gym that caters to those who want more than just a place to lift weights, and who appreciate a full-service athletic club experience in Waltham.

Waverley Oaks Athletic Club Reviews
The gym itself is well-equipped and visually appealing, but unfortunately, that’s where the positives end. The front desk staff tends to be unfriendly, and the Fitness Director, Jon Mack, comes across as unapproachable and rigid. Membership fees are extremely high, and the quality of the equipment doesn’t justify the cost. Additionally, there’s a recurring issue with older male members making young women uncomfortable while they try to work out. something that really needs to be addressed
August 15 · другUse to love this gym, but now seems like it is time to go. Too much price increase over a 3 year span. Start off by saying I have the VIP wellness tenant membership since I work in the complex. Watched that price go from $75 a month in 2022 to now $95 a month in 2025. There was an increase in 2023 to $85 a month with an explanation being increased energy and operational cost. Funny how now they decide to swap out the light fixtures to more efficient LED lights from traditional in 2025 something that should have been done years ago. Not to mention the building isn't new by any means it is a retrofitted building with old piping and utilities. Water bubblers and bottle fillers routinely don't work because clearly no one knows that you need to clear the filters out of them. That's why the bottle fillers don't flow properly. When it went to $95 a month in April 2025 there was not an explanation just an added benefit of being able to take classes and group sessions. Well what if a member doesn't want to take classes or group sessions, some of us just want a gym that we can go lift some weights and do some cardio after work at. Eventually these increases are going to lose the club a lot of membership. Waverly is starting to go closer and closer to Lifetime Fitness cost and the facility is a joke in comparison. April 2025 will be my last month there, I had great workouts there but sadly the upper management has decided to leave out a large portion of gym-goers and cater to those wanting to participate in classes at the expense of everyone else.I will add that the staff there is excellent and hard working. I constantly see cleaning and when equipment is broken it is fixed or replaced in a timely matter.
April 02 · R BGenuinely please do not come to this gym. My boyfriend and I have gone here for about a year now and have had the worst interactions. Just to set the scene, it is a norm for people to steal out of lockers. There are several accounts of theft and no action to combat that. The staff doesn’t care about quality customer service and the gym conditions reflect that. Not ever the type to write reviews but will be revoking my membership soon.
August 08 · Chloe MangubatReally glad I joined Waverley Oaks. I enjoy Zumba dancing classes, water aerobics, lap swimming, and a variety of other classes. Good equipment also. I enjoy getting fit amongst motivated people of all ages and sizes.
March 31 · Evelyn DicksonI joined in December 2022, it was a good overall experience until recent price increase. Sorry, it's getting too expensive. I didn't attend any classes and wasn't really looking to do so, but it seems that every member is paying for having those classes available. I wish there was an option to exclude class attendance just like one can exclude use of pool and not pay extra $20. Same for the classes. If I don't use them why charge me 95$ per mo ? It used to be cheaper, but with a recent price increase...I don't know, I am considering just dropping that membership and just use another gym.
