**Introduction / Overview: Uptown Fitness - Your Local Hub for Health in Chicago**
For Illinois residents, especially those in the bustling Chicagoland area, finding a local gym that offers a wide range of services without requiring a long commute is paramount to maintaining a consistent fitness routine. Uptown Fitness, located on Montrose Avenue in Chicago’s vibrant Uptown neighborhood, serves as a dedicated fitness center aiming to meet diverse health and wellness needs. It is more than just a space with equipment; it’s an established local facility offering programs that cater to various fitness levels and interests, from high-energy aerobics to calming yoga sessions.
Uptown Fitness proudly identifies as a comprehensive facility that encompasses the core offerings of a traditional gym, while also providing specialized services often found in boutique studios. This includes certified personal trainers, professional aerobics instructors, and yoga instructors on staff. The facility also features a swimming pool, a significant amenity that elevates the membership value, allowing for low-impact exercise and aquatic training. The facility is a mainstay in the Uptown community, striving to provide a practical and accessible option for local users committed to their physical fitness journey.
While the feedback from the community acknowledges the value of the diverse class offerings and the pleasant interactions with the front desk staff, potential members should be aware of certain aspects mentioned in customer reviews. Specifically, there have been historical concerns regarding air conditioning consistency, particularly during hot summer months, and reported difficulties with the customer service process related to contract cancellation, especially when moving residences. However, many customers still rate the service and day-to-day facilities as 'good-great' and appreciate the available classes, suggesting a generally positive experience for members who intend to fulfill their contract terms and utilize the extensive offerings.

**What is Worth Choosing**
**Uptown Fitness is a great solution for Illinois residents seeking a full-service, community-oriented gym with high-value amenities like a swimming pool and diverse group fitness classes.**
What makes this gym worth choosing is its blend of comprehensive facilities and a deep investment in instructor-led fitness. For those who enjoy variety in their exercise—alternating between strength training, high-energy aerobics, lap swimming, and restorative yoga—Uptown Fitness provides all these under one roof in a highly accessible Chicago location. The positive reviews for the classes and the friendly demeanor of the in-house staff solidify the daily workout environment as generally excellent.
However, it is crucial that prospective Illinois members note the importance of riding the contract through to its full term. The gym appears to be an ideal choice for members with a clear intention of long-term commitment. For individuals who anticipate a potential move or change in circumstances, it is advisable to thoroughly review the contract terms and understand the full implications and processes for early cancellation, as past customer experiences suggest this specific administrative process with the corporate side can be challenging and difficult to navigate. If you are comfortable with the commitment, Uptown Fitness offers a competitively furnished, locally supported, and class-rich fitness experience right in the heart of Uptown.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1If you have the curiosity how hot hell can be, you should subscribe to this gym. they always have problem with AC. Previous summer and today when it's 90゚ outside it's ridiculous. looking for another GYM where the facility are more comfortable and better customer service than this one
June 18 · Junior VWhile I was a member of the gym, I can rate the service at good-great...I love their classes, I was treated nicely by the front desk and found the facilities fine. The poor service came when I had to jump through hoops to get out of the contract upon my move. Connie in their Corporate office completely lacks customer service and seemed bothered to be working in a position where she must explain accounts to customers.Overall, the gym is a great solution as long as you have the intention of riding the contract all the way through.
September 25 · Jessica WrobelHave had an overall poor experience with former world gym, now uptown fitness in this location. They use very unpleasant guerilla tactics to get you to sign up which leaves you with a bad feeling of being pressured into signing up. As a member I have found that while the gym is decently equipped, the classes that I was most interested in, take place in an open space rather than a secluded room. As a consequence, you have class in the middle of machines and people working out/passing through, the temperature is poorly controlled, and the sessions that are a little more calm like yoga loose most of their essence since there is sound pollution and very hard to detach from the general gym environment. They should really have a separate space for the classes. The biggest complaint is that they outsource their payments to third party system called ASF INTERNATIONAL which is briefly put awful. If you look them up you'll see they have terrible reputation for customer care. It's very hard to get out of the contract or to deal with them even after cancellation takes place as they keep posting charges that are difficult to contest. It's a very poor practice to be using these types of companies and I feel it's an important factor to be aware of when you consider signing up.Please be very careful with your contract and read the small print, you cannot cancel online but need to follow specific procedures even as your contract is month to month (such as mine was).I finally got out (I hope!) of the contract and overall had a negative experience with this gym. I think it can be better for others if they are very careful signing up and negotiating the contract.
June 06 · Amanda SRead every 1 and 2 star review on this page and you'll see Uptown Fitness conned EVERY SINGLE ONE out of money. They have 4 formal complaints with the Better Business Bureau. They cannot pretend for a second (as the owner's replies assert) that they are upfront about their contracts or billing. They do not properly document phone calls and cannot be trusted to uphold anything that isn't explicitly documented in writing. Nobody wants that experience from a gym, and I wouldn't expect that kind of treatment from my doctor, bank, or insurance company, let alone a gym.My partner's 1-year prepaid membership expired. When the gym tried to bill his expired credit card to renew the membership as month-month, he indicated that he wanted to cancel his membership. Jackie said she would cancel the membership. A month later, Jackie called back to demand two months of "late payment" and claimed no memory of the previous phone call and said she made no record of it at the time. She also refused to cancel the membership until the new fees had been paid. After speaking to the manager and explaining the situation the next day, he was still forced to pay $70 (two months membership) because of hearsay with the first attendant. This isn't a mistake. As of today exactly 25% of their google reviews make the same claim. The gym knows exactly what they are doing. They extort their members, make false statements, do not keep proper records, and rely on loopholes built into their contract to squeeze as much money as possible out of unsatisfied members who try to leave. Do not deal with Uptown Fitness, and warn your peers if they are considering signing up.This incident will be reported to the BBB and I encourage any future reviewers to do the same with their own issues.
October 09 · alexandra ritger1 YEAR UPDATE:I left. They didn’t change or improve anything.6 MONTH UPDATE:Free weights are still never organized by staff. Most of the time you see everybody working there sitting at the front desk when you come in. Also I’ve mentioned to them about broken equipment (treadmills) and lack of cleaning spray anywhere and neither item has been addressed/fixed. On the positive side you can always get on the equipment you want to even if it’s busy.Original ReviewOverall it’s a decent place for the price and not much waiting around for equipment. They have so much stuff stuck in the gym it’s hard to walk around and I’ve found stuff that’s broke that hasn’t been taken out of service or marked. They don’t go around and keep the weights organized (see picture). Also the guest passes are a joke, just throw them out. You can’t take someone more than once or a friend from out of town. Chicago is a place my friends would like to visit. I’ve never seen so many restrictions on one. Might as well not even have them. The person that signed me up didn’t inform me of any of the restrictions on the guest passes and was like “here you and your buddy can come together a few more times”
