I’d try any other gym but this one. I’d rate zero stars if I could.I Signed my husband up to try this gym for a 3 month membership in April. I Didn’t realize they continued taking $50 out of my account continuously for months after the 3 months were up. They weren’t sending me an email with a receipt or sending me anything that said I’d be charged either, so I had no clue. You can’t get ahold of anyone. I tried to call. No staff is ever there. I’ve gone there and nobody was there to talk to. I finally sent an email after still being charged (in November), and I didn’t get a response from that either. I attempted to message them again (in January) because I noticed another charge on my account and still had not heard back from them. They finally reached out and I was told they have limited staffed hours, but that I have definitely had a way to reach them in person. ??? Which is Not true because I went there, I tried to call, and sent an email. The amount of time that it took to even get a response about this issue, should tell you enough how much they care about their customers or how “easy” it is to be in contact with someone. We went to this gym ONE time and didn’t like it. The cameras that they have in the bathroom/changing room were a huge no for me and made me very uncomfortable. Whoever they have in charge of customer service is not a very understanding or empathetic person about these types of issues, and they don’t care about making things right. They only care about taking your money. Then when you bring issues up to them, even though it’s VERY hard to get in contact with someone….it’s ultimately your fault somehow and not their problem. I’d highly advise Planet Fitness or something different than this place. Poor customer service says a lot about a business and how they operate. This place, is not a professional place. - Truth Drop

The Old Sauk River Sports and Fitness Introduce

Situated in Coldwater, Michigan, The Old Sauk River Sports and Fitness is a local fitness center that aims to provide a space for community members to pursue their health and wellness goals. This center is built on the concept of providing a range of workout options, from cardio to strength training, in a facility that has been a part of the community for some time. While the idea is to offer a comprehensive fitness solution, it is important for prospective members to be aware of all aspects of the club’s operations and services, as highlighted by various customer experiences. The gym is a place with a history in Coldwater, and understanding its offerings, along with the feedback from others, is key to making an informed decision about whether it is the right fit for your fitness journey.

The facility itself is designed to support a variety of workouts, and it includes amenities that are often sought after by gym-goers. The presence of a sauna, for instance, is a notable feature that adds value for those looking to relax and recover after a workout. The center also accepts modern payment methods like credit and debit cards, and has restrooms available for use by members. The gym operates on a membership-required basis, which is a standard practice for many fitness clubs. However, potential members should pay close attention to the details of their chosen membership plan, including any automatic renewal policies and the process for cancellation, as some past members have expressed issues with billing and communication. This can be a point of friction, so it is recommended to get all terms in writing and to be proactive in monitoring your account.

The location of The Old Sauk River Sports and Fitness is at 201 Butters Ave, Coldwater, MI 49036, USA. The facility provides a wheelchair-accessible entrance and a wheelchair-accessible parking lot, which are important features for promoting inclusivity. However, it's crucial to note that one customer review highlighted significant challenges with accessibility for individuals using a wheelchair. The review mentioned a forced uphill journey from the parking lot and a lack of an elevator to the top floor where cardio equipment is located. The review also mentioned a locked door on the bottom floor, which makes certain areas of the gym inaccessible without staff assistance. This is a crucial point for anyone with mobility concerns to consider before signing up, as it may affect their ability to use all of the gym's services. While the staff member was noted as being "awesome, helpful and apologetic," the structural limitations of the older building remain a significant hurdle for wheelchair users, forcing them to go to a different gym across town.

The facility offers a variety of services, though the provided information is concise. The nature of the services can be inferred from the type of establishment it is. As a fitness center, it provides a general space for working out, likely with a mix of different types of equipment and areas for various exercises.

Services Offered:

  • General Gym Access: Membership grants access to the fitness center for independent workouts, including cardio and strength training.
  • Sauna: The facility includes a sauna, which members can use for relaxation and muscle recovery after their workouts.
  • Wheelchair Accessible Amenities: The gym has a wheelchair-accessible entrance, parking lot, and restrooms, though members with mobility challenges should be aware of the difficulties highlighted in customer feedback regarding building layout and equipment location on different floors without elevator access.
  • Membership-Based Entry: The gym operates on a membership model, with various plans available. It is important to confirm the terms and conditions of any membership plan, including payment and cancellation policies.

Based on the provided information and customer feedback, The Old Sauk River Sports and Fitness has a few features that are worth highlighting for potential members, but also some significant points of concern that need to be addressed. It is important to consider all of these factors together to form a balanced view of the facility.

Features / Highlights:

  • Sauna Access: The availability of a sauna is a positive feature for members seeking post-workout relaxation and recovery.
  • Accessible Parking and Entrance: The gym has a wheelchair-accessible entrance and parking lot, demonstrating a foundational commitment to accessibility.
  • Flexible Payments: The acceptance of credit and debit cards for payments adds convenience for members.
  • Customer Service: While one review details significant negative experiences with communication and billing, another review highlights a positive interaction with an "awesome, helpful and apologetic" staff member. This suggests a varied experience with customer service.
  • Cameras in Changing Areas: One customer review expressed significant discomfort and concern regarding cameras in the bathroom/changing room area. This is a critical point that potential members should be aware of and may want to inquire about directly.
  • Billing Issues: A recurring theme in one review is the difficulty in resolving billing issues, with charges continuing long after a membership period was meant to end. This raises a red flag about the operational management of memberships and customer communication.

For more information, The Old Sauk River Sports and Fitness can be reached at their address: 201 Butters Ave, Coldwater, MI 49036, USA. The primary phone number is (517) 258-0550, and their mobile number is +1 517-258-0550. As noted in customer reviews, getting in touch with staff can be a challenge, so it is advisable to be persistent and to consider all available contact methods, including visiting the location during staffed hours if possible.

Deciding whether The Old Sauk River Sports and Fitness is worth choosing requires a careful evaluation of its offerings against the backdrop of real-world experiences. On the one hand, the gym provides a place to work out with amenities like a sauna, and it has some features that are designed to be accessible. On the other hand, the negative reviews about customer service, billing issues, and accessibility for those with specific mobility needs are significant. The concern about cameras in the changing areas is also a major point of consideration for personal privacy and comfort. While the facility may be a good option for an "able-bodied person," as one review put it, the challenges for individuals in wheelchairs are substantial. Therefore, it is essential for anyone considering this gym to weigh the positive aspects against the negative feedback. It is highly recommended that you visit the gym in person, speak with a staff member if possible, and ask very specific questions about membership terms, cancellation policies, and the layout of the facility, especially if you have accessibility concerns. Considering the strong advice from a former member to "try any other gym but this one" and to consider alternatives like Planet Fitness, a thorough investigation before committing to a membership is a wise step. The ideal choice is a place that not only has the right equipment but also operates with transparency, professionalism, and a genuine commitment to customer care and safety.
