The Daley Practice Iyengar Yoga of Asbury Park Introduce
Welcome to The Daley Practice Iyengar Yoga, a true gem and a standout studio in the vibrant and bustling city of Asbury Park, New Jersey. In an area seemingly "overrun with yoga studios," as one of our dedicated students put it, we offer a unique and deeply intentional approach to the ancient practice of yoga. We specialize in the Iyengar method, a tradition that emphasizes precise alignment, proper form, and the use of props to make yoga accessible and beneficial for everyone, regardless of age, physical ability, or previous experience. This is not your typical "pachouli-scented and artsy" studio; instead, we offer a calm, welcoming, and focused environment where the "vibe is serious yet relaxed." Our mission is to guide you on a journey of self-discovery and physical transformation through careful, mindful movement. We believe that through the alignment of the body, you can discover the alignment of your mind, intellect, and self. The a-ha moments of proper form and the tangible progress you feel in your body are what make our practice so rewarding. As a local studio, we have cultivated a strong and supportive community, a place where students not only improve their practice but also form "life-long friends." The Daley Practice is a testament to the belief that quality instruction and a nurturing environment are the keys to a successful yoga practice. Whether you are a first-timer or a long-time student, our studio is the perfect place to call your "yoga-home."

At The Daley Practice, our services are rooted in the authentic and profound tradition of Iyengar Yoga. We are dedicated to providing clear, effective, and safe instruction for every student. Our core services are delivered through a variety of class levels and options:
Online Classes: To provide flexibility and convenience, we offer online classes. This service allows you to practice Iyengar Yoga from the comfort of your own home, ensuring you can maintain consistency with your routine no matter your location or schedule.
Onsite Services: Our physical studio provides a perfectly sized, beautiful, and fully equipped space for in-person classes. Our onsite services allow for hands-on, personalized instruction, which is a hallmark of the Iyengar method.
Personalized Instruction: Our classes are intentionally small, which allows our highly experienced instructors, like Thea Daley and her team, to provide individualized attention. This is especially beneficial for students with specific injuries or "bio-mechanic issues," as teachers can "individually tailor her instruction to accommodate people" in a safe and careful way.
Level-Based Classes: We offer a progressive system of classes, including Level I for beginners, and more advanced levels for intermediate and experienced students. This structured approach ensures that all students are learning at a pace that is right for them, building a strong and safe foundation from the ground up.
Private Lessons: For a truly customized experience, we offer one-on-one private lessons. These sessions are ideal for addressing specific goals, working on injuries, or simply deepening your practice with undivided attention from a certified instructor.
The Daley Practice is distinguished by its unique features and the high quality of its instruction and environment. Our highlights are a direct result of our dedication to providing an authentic and supportive Iyengar Yoga experience. The key features of our studio include:
Highly Certified Iyengar Teachers: As a reviewer emphasized, there are not many certified Iyengar teachers, and our studio is fortunate to have highly experienced instructors like Thea, Robin, and Gopali. A client who drove an hour each way for six years attests to the "quality of instruction and community" that is simply "not available anywhere else."
Specialization in the Iyengar Method: Our focus on the Iyengar method, which emphasizes "proper alignment and form," sets us apart from other studios. We use a sequence of poses that is "intentional" and cater classes to the students' needs, making it "accessible to all levels."
Beautiful and Well-Equipped Studio: The studio itself is a standout feature. It is described as "beautiful, sustainable," and perfectly sized to create a calming environment. It is meticulously clean, and all mats, blankets, and props are orderly and well-maintained. We also feature a "one of a kind" rope wall, which is integral to the practice of Iyengar Yoga.
A Welcoming and Serious Vibe: We've created a space that is "welcoming" and focused on the practice. It's a place where you can come to "calm the mind, quiet the ego, and learn to be patient with oneself," which is a refreshing approach for those who may have found other studios to be too spiritual or "artsy."
Accommodating for Injuries: Our instructors are skilled at working with students who have various injuries, such as back, hip, shoulder, and ankle problems. The small class size allows them to provide individual modifications and support, ensuring a safe and effective practice for everyone.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Sometimes it takes leaving to realize what a treasure you had.We have been Thea's students for over 6 years and drove 1 hour each direction, 2x a week, to take class at The Daley Practice. You cannot find this quality of instruction and community anywhere else. Not only have I significantly improved my practice, but I've made life-long friends in the process.Thea, Robin and Gopali are highly experienced and each infuses their own unique interpretation and personality to the instruction. There are not many certified Iyengar teachers, so definitely take advantage of this specialty when available! I used to take random classes at the gym or at various studios and have really come to appreciate the Iyengar method. The sequence of poses is intentional, the focus is on proper alignment and form, and the instructors will cater the class to the students. This makes Iyengar yoga accessible to all levels, from beginners (like my boyfriend - and now he's hooked!) to expert teachers. The studio is beautiful, sustainable, and features the props integral to the practice of Iyengar Yoga. The rope wall is truly one of a kind.I will be back to the Daley Practice anytime I'm back in New Jersey. See you there!
November 13 · Tiffany KThea Daley has created an Iyengar Yoga studio that is a stand-out in the Asbury Park area (an area that is seemingly overrun with yoga studios). The studio itself is perfectly sized, beautifully designed, welcoming, and calm. The mats and blankets and props are clean and orderly; as is the bathroom. (NB: Iyengar yoga, specifically, employs lots of props to aid students in achieving correct and safe alignment and support while learning the various yoga asanas.)As nice as the studio is, the real draw here is Thea, herself, and her team of skilled instructors. Students include first-timers, those who practice occasionally, those who practice daily, and those who teach. (It's always a good sign when you notice OTHER teachers coming to take instruction from YOUR teacher!) Emphasis is on safe and careful movement into and out of the asanas, relaxed breathing, and strengthening.I bring a few injuries to class with me (back and hip). Others suffer from shoulder and ankle problems. The classes are small enough that Thea can individually tailor her instruction to accommodate people like me, who are dealing with bio-mechanic issues. There are classes offered 6-days a week (though I believe the schedule expands a bit in the summer season) and the prices are fair and competitive. There's an easy-to-use online portal for checking in to reserve a spot in the class of your choice. Finally -- and I'm not sure how best to word this -- the "vibe" is serious yet relaxed. I've been to some studios where the focus on the spiritual aspects of yoga creates an almost church-like atmosphere. Here, the feeling is LESS pachouli-scented and artsy and MORE welcoming with a goal of calming the mind, quieting the ego, and learning to be patient with oneself. If you're looking for a way into a new yoga practice for yourself OR if you're a long-time student looking for a place to call your yoga-home, I heartily recommend The Daley Practice.
July 17 · Jeff RudellBest yoga on the Jersey Shore! Thoughtful, dedicated instructors - every class builds on the one before. The practice is great for every level, from beginner to advanced. And the studio is a beautiful serene space in a great , convenient location. Can't rave enough.
April 24 · Nick HThis is the most thorough and comprehensive practice that I have ever had the pleasure of experiencing. The classes are well instructed and move very slowly with the concentration on the breath and doing the poses correctly to avoid injury and getting the most benefit from the practice. Props are used both to help achieve the maximum results from the poses as well as assisting with any injury the person may have to work around. I can't say enough about the Daley Practice and Iyengar Yoga in general... wouldn't go anywhere else.
April 24 · Patrick SchiavinoA few years ago, a good friend asked me to join her and take a Yoga class in the City (NYC). I told her that I had never tried yoga but wouldn’t mind trying it out. I told her that I was somewhat intimidated but curious since I had no experience with the practice. She assured me it was a beginner’s class, and that it would be fun and that I would enjoy it. I took her for her word since she is a workout alcoholic and practices many different sports and exercise regimes, and it would be fun to do it with her. When I arrived I was slightly overwhelmed by the size of the class, there must have been 30-50 people laid out on their mats. The room was large but we were still crowded. Everyone stood inches away from each other. As soon as the class started, the Yoga instructor announced poses with very little instructions or demonstrations. The class moved quickly, and all the Yogis were doing the poses effortlessly and quickly. Needless to say, I was completely lost, if this was a beginners class, than I was certainly in deep trouble and headed into a “dead end”. I tried to mimic those in front of me, to the left of me, to the right of me, and even those behind me, but I just couldn’t keep up. By the end of the class, I was exhausted, frustrated, embarrassed, humiliated and felt slightly defeated. I walked away NOT loving Yoga, not enjoying the experience and convinced that this activity wasn’t something I wanted to explore. I never went back.On November 2017, a very good friend asked me to join her for a beginner’s yoga class in Asbury Park. I quickly declined the invite and told her that “Yoga” wasn’t my thing. She insisted and persisted that I should give it a try and told me that I would enjoy it. She explained that it was truly a beginner’s class, a class held in a nice size studio, with the most incredible yoga instructor. I had my reservations about the whole thing, but decided that I would give it ONE more try and probably a FINAL attempt. I doubted this was going to be any different than my first attempt. She wasn’t wrong!Thea Daley owns and operates the Daley Practice in Asbury Park, NJ. She is an incredible teacher; she is patient, smart, strong, physical, flexible, energetic, helpful, mindful, motivating, and a very encouraging instructor. She is warm and sensitive but certainly her presence commands attention. She is explicit with her instructions and always leaves us with a good imprint of the work we have done. Her classes are hard work, but they are fun and both mentally and physically rewarding. My body has become so much more flexible, stronger, my posture has improved and my stress levels (mostly from work) have gone from 100% to 5% (is it the breathing? The control of poses?) I don’t know, but I do enjoy the outcome.I never thought I would say this, but I am now a YOGI. I am still very much a beginner, but enjoy the classes at the Daley Practice and truly enjoying the journey that I have embarked. I couldn’t have done this without the persistent of my good friend, but mostly because of my amazing teacher / Yoga Mentor (Thea Daley) and her studio in which the “magic” happens! For anyone who ever doubted the practice of Yoga, don’t. I was very anti-yoga, but LOVE it and can’t imagine my life without it now.I highly recommended ALL to visit The Daley Practice In Asbury Park. It has been life changing for me. And besides the instructor, the studio, I have met a handful of wonderful people in class. A win-win all around!#TheDaleyPractice#TheaDaley#BestYogaStudioInAsburyPark
