The history of this gym is, as one reviewer put it, "five stars." It is a testament to the power of community-building through sport. The gym’s founders, including Jimmy O’, dedicated themselves to providing a safe haven for local youth, using boxing as a way to "keep kids off the streets" and build "incredible athletes." This legacy of giving back to the community is still a palpable part of the gym's culture today. While many things have changed in New York since the 1980s, the core values of mentorship and support at Starrett City Boxing have remained constant. Starrett City Boxing Reviews
The history alone at this gym is five stars. The feel and the ownership is top notch. Being from Brooklyn and having something like this for the youth is second to none. Such an amazing gym, I would recommend to anyone. Check it out for yourself! 🥊
May 16 · The Houston LoftUsed to train here back in the days of Jimmy O', Mr. Tate and Bobby. These were men who gave of themselves for their community and built incredible athletes. I KNOW Jimmy O' was putting money out of his own pocket to for trainers to teach kids who who couldn't necessarily afford a trainer. He did this just to keep kids off the streets...which really weren't such bad streets in the 80's, at least not in Starrett.I know most of this stuff is irrelevant today, but I had to say something about these guys.
May 26 · Serge KannonThis a beautiful gym enriched with family values and mores extended down from the founder Jimmy O’Pharrow. If you’re looking to place your child or joining yourself. This is the perfect place for a pugilist.
May 16 · Larry JacksonI went to see the location where it said Starret City Boxing but it was actually Brooklyn Sports Club. When inquired about Starret City Boxing BSC staff notified me that they are no longer here and could not further inform me of SC Boxing Club location or status. I made many attempts to call Starret City Boxing to no success. As the owner of Starret City Boxing He/She should update their info and whereabouts during Covid times as many other businesses have done.
January 05 · Tommy “Babe Brodeur Kidd Kelly” OliverI had a great experience when I took my son here to train, the staff is warm, and friendly the trainers are helpful, and friendly to my son when instructing him, I am very pleased with this gym
