Star Hill Trailhead Introduce
Star Hill Trailhead, located in Heath, Ohio, is a truly unique destination that functions as a natural, outdoor "gym" for those who prefer to get their workouts in the fresh air. This is not a traditional indoor facility with weights and machines; instead, it is a dedicated space for activities like cycling and hiking, offering a challenging and rewarding fitness experience. For residents of Heath and surrounding areas like Newark, Granville, or Pataskala, this trail system provides a fantastic alternative to a conventional gym membership. The trails themselves are unpaved, with a firm, gravelly surface that makes them rideable even after a heavy rain, a significant advantage for a place that serves as a consistent workout spot. While it may not be as well-known as some other Central Ohio trails, it is a "hidden gem" that offers a great workout for both beginners and experienced riders and hikers. The natural terrain provides a dynamic and engaging workout, with "numerous long, steep climbs" that are sure to test your endurance and strength, even for those who ride every day. This unique environment makes Star Hill Trailhead a great spot to push your limits and enjoy the beautiful scenery of the Ohio outdoors.
The experience at Star Hill Trailhead is raw and authentic, appealing to those who love a sense of adventure and a connection to nature. As one reviewer mentioned, it’s "really nice riding if getting lost in the woods doesn't bother you." The minimal signage and crisscrossing paths add a layer of challenge and exploration to the workout. While this might be a point of frustration for some, for others it adds to the thrill and sense of discovery. The trails are also noted for having some "jumps," which suggests that there are features for more advanced riders looking for a technical challenge. Despite the lack of formal signage, there is evidence of trail upkeep, indicating that the area is not neglected and that there is a level of care from the local community or maintenance crews. It is clear that this is a place for a more self-reliant and adventurous user, someone who is happy to go with the flow and enjoy the ride. The presence of "new trails under construction with rocky technical features" also points to a growing and evolving space, providing even more challenges for the future. For those in Ohio who are looking for a workout that is both physically demanding and mentally engaging, Star Hill Trailhead provides a one-of-a-kind experience.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1This trail seems to be a bit of a hidden gem that doesn't get the love and attention that the Alum Creek trails do. That's not to say that it's poorly maintained. On the contrary, I saw evidence of trail upkeep on my recent ride. However, it is very easy to get lost as there are numerous crisscrossing paths and minimal signage, and I'm pretty sure I ended up riding the wrong way several times based on the orientation of the few jumps I passed, but without signs or even blazes on the trees, how would you know? There are also numerous long, steep climbs. I ride every day and thought I was in decent shape, but some of those ascents kicked my butt. The trail surface is firm and gravely and doesn't hold water, so its rideable after (and even during) rain.
June 07 · Darren ZThere is no parking at this trailhead, and absolutely no signage on the trails. Really nice riding if getting lost in the woods doesn't bother you. Looks like some new trails are under construction with rocky technical features.
June 04 · Matt PenningtonThey are taking down too many trees and the bicyclists think they own the trail!
